  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 30, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) LMAO. No one likes Gordon Beckham here more than me, but it isn't about what your wRC+ is right now. It is about what it will be tomorrow and in the future. If Gordon Beckham was going to continue to put up those numbers playing every day at 2b, and Sanchez was goimg to hit .170 the rest of his life, it would make sense. But that is most likely not the case. Of course. But Beckham's absolute floor in the majors is higher than anything Sanchez has produced. His projections are comfortably better.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ May 30, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) you have a point, but why not mention Eaton, Flowers, Soto.... Just because there's several problems doesn't mean you don't move to fix any problems. Those you list are not doing as horrendously as Sanchez, and have no real alternatives, though I've been a long-term advocate of replacing Flowers.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 30, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) So the White Sox didn't score vs.a pitcher with an ERA under 2.00, without Abreu in the line up, and more panic sets in. Now scoring zero is Sanchez's fault. LMAO You seem to have a habit of putting words in people's mouths. He didn't say scoring no runs was Sanchez's fault. He simply suggested replacing the guy with a wRC+ of 14 with the guy with a wRC+ of 111.
  4. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) Tyler Flowers hits under .200 before being replaced by Soto Semien/Bassitt/Phegley/Ravelo produce around the same amount of WAR as Samardzija Abreu has an OBP of over .400 Rodon replaces Danks in the rotation and beats his ERA by over 2 White Sox go under .500 Checking back on these. Tyler Flowers hits under .200 before being replaced by Soto Currently at .196, has not been replaced yet but they've split the last 8 or so starts and Soto's starting to outhit him Semien/Bassitt/Phegley/Ravelo produce around the same amount of WAR as Samardzija About 1.5 to 1.2 thus far Abreu has an OBP of over .400 Nope, .340 Rodon replaces Danks in the rotation and beats his ERA by over 2 He replaced Noesi rather than Danks but is currently beating Danks's ERA by 2.24 (albeit a bit luckily) White Sox go under .500 Currently 3 games under Not bad overall.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 29, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) He's not great yet but he's trending upwards which is a good sign. He puts in the work which is a good sign. part of my opinion is inside info plus faith. He's the type of guy you really really want to fulfill his potential. Sure. I want it too. I just don't see it. I'd bet his OBP will be right around .300 the rest of the way home.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 29, 2015 -> 09:30 PM) He's hitting 327 and his upside is a star. I think Carlos Lee to be honest. Pretty good upside. If Avi had a BABIP of .315 (splitting the difference between last year's .285 and 2013's .344, his triple slash (even if you remove nearly all singles) is somewhere around .245/.288/.381. Adjust it a little up if you think he's a naturally higher BABIP hitter. And if his BABIP was lower his ISO is probably higher. But it does show his line is mostly BABIP-generated. Unless you think he can maintain a BABIP around .411, or that he'll supplement a drop with a big power surge or increase in walks, I don't see how he's a great hitter right now (and before I hear he's "earned" a high BABIP with a lot of line drives, they are not at all sustainable). Then you get to the fact that his defence and baserunning are brutal, and I just don't see the big upside.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 29, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) Agreed but look at what he's turned himself into. And his upside is tremendous. What's he turned himself into? And what's his upside?
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 29, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) Noesi was the other option? Putnam?
  9. It worked out but not exactly sure why Webb was out there in a 1-run game. He hasn't been good since 2013.
  10. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) Hmmm very interesting. I would still move Melky down until he starts hitting consistently. Who is there to move there? Apart from Abreu and Laroche (and an injured unsustainable Avi), every single player is hitting brutally
  11. Carlos has started throwing balls. About three-quarters of his last 20 or so pitches have been out of the zone.
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) How is JB with RISP; Melky? Not that it really matters (both at this point in the season and ever), but Shuck has a 56 wRC+ with RISP and and Melky 106
  13. Matt Tuiasosopo 2-2, 2 HR, 2 BB
  14. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) Shuck for two hole. I believe there is a hidden subsection of MLB law which states that any team batting JB Shuck second automatically forfeits the season
  15. Flowers has the baseball approach of a hockey player as well
  16. Guerra 6.0 IP, 5H, 1ER, 2BB, 8K
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 28, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) Junior Guerra, new to the organization this year. Believed he pitched in Mexico or Japan last year. Pitched in Italy (about equivalent to Rookie ball) with a 1.29 ERA and then in the Venezuelan Winter League (about equivalent to AAA) with a 3.46 ERA and a 9.5 K/9 to a 2.5 BB/9.
  18. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 28, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Has Guerra been pitching? It looks like he's thrown less than 6 innings all season. Junior Guerra, not Javi Guerra. A 30 year-old minor league free agent the Sox signed in the offseason who has been striking everyone out at AA and AAA.
  19. Would have gone with Junior Guerra myself for this game. You just aren't gonna have that much success at MLB level with the low amount of strikeouts Beck has been getting.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 28, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) O's have left Steve Clevenger while the Cubs have Arrieta and Strop. A's have neither Samardzija nor Hammel while the Cubs have Hammel, Russell, Fowler, and McKinney lolol. Amazing trades from the Cubs. And Hammel is excelling for the Cubs for a fairly cheap price. I'd have gone after him in the offseason.
  21. Really weird sequence there for Sale. In miles per hour: 87 88 91 93 95 83 Were those first couple meant to be changes?
  22. Sale's success today is another piece of evidence against this whole "Player X always struggles/dominates against Team Y". Unless there's a substantial piece of evidence for it (such as maybe a lefty masher doing well against White Sox starting pitching), I tend to ignore it.
  23. Sale at 45% fastball, 35% changeup, 25% slider
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) It is funny you dismiss hot streaks due to BABIP, but don't seem to care what his BABIP is up until this point when you just say he is awful at about 30 AB. An average BABIP is about .300. I'm (not dismissing) but questioning hot streaks when they came with .449 and .426. .250 is not a BABIP well over 100 points away from the norm. The worst hitters in the league often have BABIPs around .260. And for that matter, even a normal BABIP and he'd still have an awful line. His BABIP last year was .326 and it produced an awful line.
