  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 15, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) I'm not going to quibble too much with a .250 BA for a 22 year old getting a cup of coffee I do when it comes with 3 walks and 5 extra-base hits (all doubles) in 104 PA
  2. Only saw it once but should Avi have left that get to the wall?
  3. That was inevitable in more ways than one. It being Phegley, and Rodon having a 0.0% HR/FB rate.
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 15, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) what luck this guy fell to the Sox at 3. One of the best pure talents available at 3 probably in the last decade, right? Whatever about the Astros and Aiken, it was pure stupidity to take Kolek over him
  5. What was the deal with the Reddick at-bat?
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 15, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) Wandy does not inspire hope. He does so a lot more than Noesi anyway.
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) He really needs to use the change up and use it effectively to be really good, IMO Even without the change he still has 3 pitches because he has 2 different sliders, but yeah, he could still definitely do with the change
  8. Abreu's 15th HBP since joining the Sox, top 10 in majors
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) A rotation of Sale/Q/Danks/Rodon/Noesi is still damn scary For us. I didn't say leave the rotation like that. I've said I would have picked up Wandy Rodriguez off waivers for one. The Rangers did and he's been good for them, even including a meh start tonight.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:44 PM) that's hindsight. ZIPS had around 3.0 for shark and 2.0 for Marcus. On paper, with lack of rotation options and more middlie infielders than starters, they made a move to try and get an extra win this year while still looking long term to sign shark. If it doesn't work out with Shark they get the comp pick, which I believe is pegged at around a value of 5-7 million. a challenge trade is a fairly common term for this type of deal -- where guys that are talented but for whatever reason aren't in favor in the org (money, performance, etc) are traided as the main pieces in a deal. And I thought, and think, that even trying to pick up an extra win was silly, given the composition of the team. Just because there were more middle infielders than starters doesn't mean you deal away by far your best major-league ready middle infielder prospect. And everything out of the Shark camp indicated he'd be going to free agency, and wouldn't be giving away much if any of a discount.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:41 PM) Dealt from a position of strength to try and fill a weakness. I don't think anyone thinks Semiens power is sustainable. It's a position of strength in terms of quantity, not quality. Why wouldn't it be sustainable? His .ISO at AAA last year was .234. It's currently .213.
  12. Angel Hernandez is terrible. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) It was a challenge trade. I'm fine with that. I mean, look at the trade the As made to GET him. Now that is an awful f***ing trade. Sure the timing affected the return but still -- Semien is no Russell. What does that even mean? It was a bad trade. Semien would have been more valuable to this year's Sox, never mind for the next 5 years.
  13. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:29 PM) For a "saber oriented" poster you sure do like to have fun with selective endpoints. It's not simply because of his start this year, more that it's confirmed how I thought his history of destroying the minors would eventually translate to the bigs. And the general stupidity of trading cost-controlled talent for a rental when you're not right there. Especially at a position of need.
  14. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:27 PM) Trading Semien was so dumb. Is that sarcasm because he struck out? It was dumb.
  15. Trey 2-3, 2B, HR. He's rolling.
  16. From Fangraphs' Fringe Five Prospects: His 2015: 11.9 K/9 to 1.8 BB/9 at Birmingham, 2.29 ERA 13.1 K/9 to 4.1 BB/9 at Charlotte, 2.45 ERA Could we see him in Chicago this year?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) Has he kept them healthy though, outside of Sale/Q? Floyd and Danks both had catastrophic injuries, and Peavy was injured a lot during his time here. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...ng-projections/ Scroll down to the images
  18. Cooper's (probable) ability to keep pitchers healthy is a big advantage to the Sox and probably outweighs his coaching in terms of importance. I'm kind of sceptical of the impact of pitching/hitting coaches in general.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) Sox mgmt thinks he's a future star. No way will they deal him. I know. No way they'll make him a DH either which he really needs to be. Sigh.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Update on what just happened? Gomez hit a hanger into the left field corner and went for three, Avi managed to miss both Micah and Alexei with the throw and Melky backing it up threw a strike home but the tag was just late.
  21. Might be overreacting but I just don't see Avi as ever being a productive major league player given his absolutely horrendous defence and his offensive flaws. If we decide to sell I'm listening to anything for him.
  22. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ May 11, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) 6 years control doesn't necessarily equal 6 cheap years. 6 overall cheap years. Probably looking at about $15-20m max, if he's really good. And then you're happy to pay that. Or about what Samardzija is looking for for one year.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 11, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Or a guy you can flip for more or a productive player you could sign long term. Those are the bets you make as an organization and shockingly not every trade ever works in favor of the White Sox m Not sure I buy the whole thing about signing him long-term. He's repeatedly stated his ambition to go to free agency, where 99% of the time the player will go with the highest bid. The Sox weren't going to massively save on signing him while he was a Sox player as opposed to signing him through free agency. They would, however, have had an extra year to evaluate him. This was all about competing this year, which given the huge holes on the roster, was ambitious at best. It hurts even more that you give away someone like Semien, exactly the sort of player who the Sox have failed to develop. I think he'll start adding more walks soon as well which will make him even better.
