  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) The White Sox have always dealt with pitching in this respect. They don't have their guys throwing full out all of the time, and they are very careful about surgery causing pitches. They are already working on that kind stuff with Rodon. They feel the fall off is much less, then if you were to spend a year and a half of having [insert triple A pitcher] pitch while a Sale or Rodon sits out after Tommy John. And yet they had Don Cooper on the radio saying he was gonna get Sale to throw it more?
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) I don't think Sanchez is a great hitter by any stretch, but you need to put things into context. Rookies on the major league level with a few exceptions, generally struggle. 90 MPH fastballs down the middle aren't always hit 450 feet by the greatest hitters. Go to a game and watch batting practice, or better yet, watch a pro golfer hit a ball off a tee, and watch how many times they actually don't hit that correctly, and that is hitting a still object with a flat object. And again, obviously I'm not simply judging him on one pitch. He hasn't just struggled, he's hit .179/.233/.231 , good for a 26 wRC+, a full 74% off league average. Last year he was at 54. Anything below 60 is considered awful. Bar a couple of BABIP-fuelled streaks he hasn't really hit in the upper minors either. He's obviously young, but it's no exaggeration to call him non-threatening at the plate.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) Which is all better than 0. But he's a comfortably worse pitcher when he's not regularly throwing three pitches. I'd rather an elite Sale with the possibility of injury (which has already been heavily reduced) than a simply really good pitcher with a further reduced chance of injury.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) No offense, but you seem to think hitting baseballs is pretty easy. Why don't you take your knowledge, apply it, take up the game, and make $30 million a year? Quite obviously I don't think that. Any analysis I make on major league baseball players is within the context of MLB and MiLB. When I say Sanchez is non-threatening at the plate, I'm comparing him in the context of an extremely high standard. I would have thought that went without saying.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) I think it is obvious that the organization knows that. They also know that he is more likely to hurt his arm throwing more sliders, which is what they at trying to avoid by working the change in more often. They already reduced it from 36% to 26% to 18%. 11% is too few.
  6. Sanchez is so non-threatening at the plate. A 3-1 90 mph fastball in the middle of the plate and he lofts it harmlessly to the left fielder.
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) Wow, look at how much more effective Chris is when he mixes in sliders. It only took....2 months to figure this out? Yup
  8. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 19, 2015 -> 09:10 PM) I'd be careful getting so cocky in here about the Sox not being sellers. They've given up 30 more runs than they've scored. Yup
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Slap hitters need to make more contact than Carlos is He's been predictably disastrous. .156/.200/.188. Another sign of the perils of BABIP as people thought he was destroying AAA.
  10. George Kottaras is hitting .310/.512/.517 in 43 PA at AAA
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 25, 2015 -> 07:23 PM) Well the Cubs still employ David Ross And he's comfortably outhitting Flowers and Soto
  12. At what point do they say f*** it and give the guy striking out well over 30% of AAA batters a go over Noesi
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 25, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) At best Smith's a bullpen pitcher. Most likely an org guy. Sox have Noesi, Carrol, and Danks taking up space. Should try some of these AAA guys. Yep, I would have been all up for giving Guerra and Surkamp the role those guys have.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 25, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) I was definitely one of Surkamp's bigger fans but I think it's silly to make any judgement on the return. Unless you saw something I didn't there's next to no information on Smith as a pitcher. Surkamp's ceiling was very limited, who knows what Smith's is. Okay, fair enough, probably just frustrated with the org in general right now and already felt they were wasting Surkamp as it was. But still, this guy actually has very consistent numbers from 2013 to 2015 (and even going back to his pitching in college), strikes out an okay amount and walks too many. Prepared to be wrong but I'd take what I think Surkamp is over what I think he probably is any day. The Dodgers are a smart org.
  15. Stupid trade. Surkamp had really nice AAA numbers that indicated he had an outside shot of being a 5th starter (I'm aware of and largely disagree with the 4A phenomenon), and he had the floor of being a vaguely acceptable bullpen mop-up guy. We get a guy who probably has that as his ceiling.
  16. Jeez, with Avi's inevitable collapse on the way, this offense looks rough
  17. QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 20, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) I'd take on Singletons salary and ask for McCullers and Correa too if Shark were to be traded.
  18. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 20, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) No need to overreact, Shuck has performed for the team in his limited role, he just had a bad at bat. Has he? He's hit .240/.296/.240 with negative rated defence. This following a season with the Angels where he hit .145/.168/.209 (albeit with a horrendously unlucky BABIP).
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) If you don't believe in Petricka or Putnam, why are they even on the roster? Just for mop up? Does Ventura even look at the splits for Jennings? You just can't give up 3 runs in that inning. As Farmer and DJ always say, runs scored by the opposition from the 7th inning on have a way of coming back to bite you in the end. That was especially the case tonight. And Conor's got to be a bit more patient in that situation. The pressure's 100% on the pitcher. Same with Avi. Especially when Putnam has been killing it, I sure hope he wasn't just looking at Putnam's ERA. And yeah, I really get the feeling that Jennings was still in because he was a lefty, ignoring both his own and Brantley's reverse splits.
  20. One-run loss. Why the f*ck was Jennings kept in so long. Argh.
  21. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 20, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) Adam Laroche has a higher OBP than Avisail Garcia. Laroche's average is .228. Avi's is .329. Not anymore!
  22. Adam Laroche has a higher OBP than Avisail Garcia. Laroche's average is .228. Avi's is .329.
  23. Good thing we have Putnam getting Ks now right when they're most needed...
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) Investing Melky's money into Russell Martin, for example. Yeah, Martin's bidding went crazy and he's still really underpaid
