  1. Love that at-bat. Looks at 5 straight pitches, swings on a pitch right down the middle.
  2. He mustn't be commanding the changeup well at all outside of games as he's barely thrown it in the majors
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) We are WAY thinner for lefties in the pen, versus SP as an organization. Are we? In the pen we have Duke and Jennings, and at AAA we have Zach Phillips who to me is a better candidate for lefty relief work than Surkamp. We have a pretty obvious weakness at the back of our rotation, plus a need for some spot starts with the Rodon plan. And an okay 5th starter is so much more valuable than an okay lefty reliever that I think it's worth pursuing.
  4. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ May 19, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) Back in the old days we called this the Scott Ruffcorn Disease. Or, Nelson Cruz disease. Oh wait.
  5. I'd be careful getting so cocky in here about the Sox not being sellers. They've given up 30 more runs than they've scored.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 19, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) they are hitting .300 this year and he has walked 5 guys. Hope. 9.1 innings. Career they're hitting .209/.282/.285 off him, compared to .273/.367/.439 from righties.
  7. Jesus, this guy's a lefty killer too looking at his career stats. Not a good matchup. I wouldn't leave Adam in here.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ May 19, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) I am jinxing the heck outta players tonight so I'll just say it's quite obvious that Abreu sucks and can't hit He is f*cking terrible. I'd rather have Tyler Flowers up. More chance of the Bulls winning this year's championship than Abreu getting a hit here.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2015 -> 09:34 PM) Flowers doesn't thrill me but why do people blame the catcher for a pitcher's incompetence? Putnam is no star. He's striking out way more guys than last year, walking the same amount and last year his ERA was 1.98. His ERA's gonna come way down, he's just given up a fluky amount of homers. As for the sign, yeah he could have shaken it off but a lot of guys don't. I don't imagine he would have shaken off the splitter, which their guys couldn't hit. I'm not gonna crucify Flowers for it, I just didn't like it.
  10. Putnam is nasty. Didn't like the pitch call from Flowers.
  11. Laroche looks at all 6 pitches, walks. Should do that more against Bauer.
  12. QUOTE (ron883 @ May 19, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) They thought a week and its been 2 months? doesn't sound good. ptatc, come educate us please. Less than a month, not 2 months
  13. Feel like Eaton has gotten about 90% first pitch strikes this year.
  14. QUOTE (icroca @ May 19, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) Good call. Induced a soft looper to short for what should have been the third out and then a dude gets a hit on a pitch out of the zone. S*it happens. He's pitching fine.
  15. You could argue neither of Q's runs should be earned
  16. That was an utterly appalling at-bat. 4 of the 5 were nowhere near the zone and he swung at all of them.
  17. Goodeyegoodeyegoodeyegoodeyegoodeyegoodeyegoodeyegoodeyegoodeyegoodeye
  18. As someone who came late to baseball I still find it completely hilarious how outside objects can affect a play, like a rolled-up tarp
  19. QUOTE (icroca @ May 19, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) Nice stats man. How about an increasing WHIP and a decreasing LOB% which is already below average? WHIP doesn't tell you nearly enough and LOB% heavily regresses towards career average. Nice stats man.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) I think you got what I call Bajenaru syndrome. Surkamp is a 4A guy as a starter. His only hope of the majors is as a reliever, ala Zach Putnam. If batters saw him three times a game, they would kill him at the major league level. Perhaps. But I'd much rather develop him as an outside shot of being a 5th starter than a chance of being a mop-up guy. He's got 5 different pitches, a strong history of killing AAA as a starter and only 7 MLB starts, all of which occurred before he started dominating AAA. For all the talk of 4A players in baseball, there's a number of players that have been dismissed as 4A players but gone on to be productive players, and many more who I believe were given up on too early.
