  1. Gutted for you lads. If Dempsey's touch was a little lighter it was penalties.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) Why? Not a great fielder, we have several MI prospects and his offensive numbers stink. The general consensus seems to be that he can be a below-average shortstop and plus anywhere else. He has torn up the minors on a much more consistent basis than any of our MI prospects and in his one almost-full season in the major leagues hit at about Viciedo-level, without being an utter liability on defence like Dayan. Currency is currency, I wouldn't get too preoccupied about having too many MI, if they're at a better level than what you're giving up to get them, they should get you more if you do eventually have to clear a logjam.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) I don't think that is true at all. I am certain Hahn wouldn't have traded Viciedo for Franklin. Why on earth not? I'd be incredibly disappointed if he wouldn't.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 11:11 PM) Is he really fat? If so that's demoralizing. If not WTF? Looked pretty chunky at the Cell recently
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 10:59 PM) Here's a little more context on that... http://cltknightsinsider.blogspot.com/2014...f-home-run.html Also offers context on how seriously we should be considering some of the home runs at Charlotte
  6. They have his slash line for "2013.5" at .254/.436/.306. How is that even a thing.
  7. Rangel Ravelo went a combined 3 for 6 with 2 walks and no strikeouts in Birmingham's double header
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) Should WAR really be considered when evaluating a prospect/player who has played in 103 games over three seasons? Not so much. I was mainly using it in terms of Castro, as the comment was that Avi has a much higher ceiling than Castro. EDIT: Although I do consider it a bit worrying that in those mere 103 games, Avi was worth -15 runs on defence. Over 162 games, that is absolutely yikes. Granted that defensive stats ain't perfect.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) I would trade Garcia for Castro straight up right now, but that has more to do with the shoulder injury. In my mind, Garcia's ceiling is way higher, but he's also a much riskier player at this point in time too. In terms of WAR, what do you Garcia's ceiling is, considering his defence, which has graded as amongst the worst in the league (and fails the eye test too)? Castro had a 4.3 WAR last year (bearing in mind that likely grossly undersells him because it doesn't consider pitch framing), and has 0.6 WAR this year despite hitting way worse. Avi has a career -0.4 WAR, though granted he's been very young in his spells up.
  10. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) The guy who is currently hitting .218/.297/.363? And before you say small sample size, he's a career .247/.324/.405 major league hitter. Not saying he doesn't have potential, but for Avi? Injured or not, no freakin way. That career line is a very slightly above average hitter, and coupled with his pitch framing and general defence makes an incredibly valuable player. Avi is a woeful defensive outfielder who doesn't walk, so to be valuable he has to hit .300+ and/or have some pretty serious power, and he hits the ball into the ground way too much right now to unlock all of the power potential. The major thing stopping me doing it would be years of control.
  11. Michael Taylor is 1-2 with a walk. He's been excellent since the trade.
  12. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) Surkamp got the funky motion. I think he could stick as a loogy I think he could stick as a 5th starter.
  13. Q is quietly having a brilliant season. FIP nearly under 3.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) There's no way only 50 percent are thrown out on pitch outs unless you're using some obscured definition of it. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=19373
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) Yes, quite often. Just not by us Just looked it up, 20% of pitchouts come when the runner is going and only 50% of those runners are thrown out. So 1 in 5 times you give up a ball, you reduce the chances of a stolen base from 3 in 4 to 1 in 2. That's bad.
  16. Has there ever been a successful pitchout ever?
  17. Soxtalk has the worst sarcasm detector of any forum I've ever been on.
  18. Michael Taylor is 1-1 with a homer and a walk Semien 1-3 with a homer Micah 2-3 with a triple Davidson 2-2
  19. Take a ball 4 occasionally, Jose
  20. Alejandro getting screwed on ball 4 again
