QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 09:51 PM) I wouldn't mind seeing Ravelo in AAA in August when hopefully Beckham is gone.. Is there a 1B that should be ahead of him in AAA though?? Not really. Dan Black has put up good numbers at all levels but isn't really seen as a prospect.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:45 PM) Don't battle the resident nerd. Dude has never actually seen a baseball game in his life, but he'll tell you all about it. Sabr and s*** like that. Soxtalk decided to make all the internet dudes mods. Jake has become the only dude that actually knows wtf he's talking about. Good job Soxtalk. Witesoxfan, eminor, rabbit and the rest of these lame ass douches have become the voice of White Sox baseball. Bunch of b****es. They will continue to project players they've never actually seen. Jesus, you're a delight aren't you. Why don't you tell me based on your in-person scouting of Dayan Viciedo why he's suddenly a .290 hitter.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) That makes sense, just seems risky. How many FA pitchers have you seen completely fail? I think the Cubs scouting department has earned some trust in terms of their evaluation of players, and Theo/Jed in terms of player procurement

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) Think on the bright side....at least they didn't draft Rodon. I'd still take Rodon now but there's a non-zero chance that with Schwarber and their prep overslots that they get more value

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 09:32 PM) A while ago I said Tank was destined to be traded or DH'ed so I won't disagree that he's not that valuable except for potential which teams are still willing to pay for. But I keep reading his base running sucks by some of you guys. I know he's no speedster but do you have something to support his baserunning is bad ? I watch just about every single game and he doesn't steal bases or get caught stealing , doesn't get picked off. I'd say on the eye test he's an average base runner. His defence is his main liability, but not getting picked off doesn't mean you're an average baserunner. When you have his speed, you often go one base at a time. That adds up in sucking value.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) I understand the value aspect but you have to pitch to win playoff gashes. The Cubs might have one starter, if this is legit from Arrieta. Cubs have money to spend, so maybe overpaying a pitcher you airway have might not be a bad idea. As I said earlier, currency is currency. If even half of their terrific hitting prospects continue to perform as they should/have been doing, they'll have pieces left over to trade for pitching. Not to mention almost their whole roster will be on league minimum/arb, leaving them to go wild in free agency. Hell, what's to stop them going after Samardzija in 2015 when they're actually ready to contend and now have Addison Russell and co in return for letting him out for a year and a half and getting higher draft picks as a result.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) It is a great return but I think the Cubs would be better off paying Samardzija. When you want to compete you can't keep banking on finding the next Scott Feldman or Jason Hammel. I'd definitely rather Addison Russell and the other valuable pieces than Samardzija/Hammel on talent-appropriate extensions

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 09:05 PM) So what do we do about Ravelo and Smith? Ravelo is age appropriate and can move up when the infield jam is cleared up at Charlotte (today's 1B was Saladino, a shortstop by trade). I'd promote Smith now, but I guess it depends on what you think of Phegley.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:12 PM) Viciedo is a streak hitter. I think he will probably be a .290 type hitter with about 20 - 25 HRs a year. Uhh, where are you getting that from. He hasn't threatened to hit anywhere near .290 in the last 4 years.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 09:02 PM) When's last time a team had 3 of the top 10 prospects in baseball, all hitters? Even aside from the big 3, they have some great depth. Schwarber who has started off unbelievably, Almora, Soler, Alcantara, McKinney who they just got, Eloy Jimenez. It's not like they're completely devoid of pitching on the farm either, CJ Edwards could be really good and they have some interesting farm pieces, a lot from the 2014 draft. I would kill for their system, literally kill.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) They have no pitching depth now, but their offensive prospects have to be the best in a decade. Hopefully Straily doesn't turn it around like Arrieta has. Currency is currency. They have a lot of great prospects, they shouldn't have much problem finding pitching with their excess.

God I am so jealous of that farm system. Pisses all over the 'Stros.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) Sorry I'm drinking early in the day. He's at .2 fWAR and .3 bWAR. You gotta OPS below 600 at catcher in order to be below replacement. Good god, that is f***ing pathetic. MLB has a real problem imo if that's the best the world's talent can come up with. They need a catcher advocacy program or some s***. wRC+ is the only offensive stat you need my good man. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) I can't put my finger on it exactly but something is wrong with the positional adjustments for WAR is Tyler Flowers if a 1-2 WAR player. Is catching in MLB really that f***ing barren right now that a guy with an OPS below 620 is a 1.5 WAR player? Who said he is that? He's on 0.2 fWAR right now and that's only because his defence has rated pretty nicely. He was on like 1 WAR at one stage too iirc. Anyway. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 05:55 PM) Hoping for a big series from Viciedo I'd say this was a decent start. -

Chris is so selfless, giving up the easy perfecto for a chance for Dayan to show off to the Mariners -

Maurer seems reasonable. Any of those Red Sox names and we'd be absolutely laughing, enormously doubt the Red Sox would do that though.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) Yohan Pino has pitched 15 innings at the MLB level. Dylan Axelrod came up, pitched in 4 games, and put this up: ERA 2.89 FIP of 3.29 xFIP 3.88 K/9 9.16 BB/9 4.34 BABIP .327 You look at those numbers and say "holy hell, if he could just hone it in a bit, you have a great starting pitcher here." Except that he has absolutely no stuff and hitters catch on quickly and that's how you end up with a 5.68 ERA over 128 innings the following season which was then followed by being non-tendered a contract in the offseason which was then followed by nobody showing interest in him whatsoever. Good point. However, my main point is not that "I'd rather guys putting up alright results with bad stuff than guys with electric stuff but no results", I said earlier that I get, and support, other lightning/bottle attempts, but that I'd take almost anything over Henry Rodriguez, who is absolutely dead as anything right now. Is there one player in the history of baseball who has given up as many walks as Rodriguez has in the past 2 years and gone on to be successful? He's a Daniel Bard.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) Bobby Korecky has absolutely no value to a major league team. It's the same thing as Yohan Pino and Dylan Axelrod. They can perform well in AA and AAA, but then they get to the majors and good hitters destroy them. I missed that he was 34, but I'd wager there's a stronger history of guys with constant ERAs in the 2s and 3s in the minors contributing in the majors than guys following seasons of giving up the amount of walks Rodriguez has. Give me Pino over him any day, dude has struck out nearly 7 per 9 and walked way less than 2 per 9 in the majors this year, only been boned by almost half of his allowed baserunners scoring.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) Guys that throw 98 MPH are hard to find. If you can find one, you try and get him to throw strikes. Would you rather they have Bobby Korecky? Yes

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:52 PM) Is it the Dublin Black Sox? Yeah, we don't wear shoes and we throw every game

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:34 PM) Just you wait "Little" Leury will be a star ! BTW you got that Ireland Baseball website I sent you ? Aye, I got it! Off to join the league and put up a better line than Leury!
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) Needed that win badly. DeAza, Conor and my AAP Little Leury come through. Can you put him back up for adoption please. No offence to your parenting skills but he's hitting .191/.237/.242 in the majors and I just don't feel like it's working out for him under your guardianship.
