  1. No sure, I get the concept, I've been fine with pretty much every lightning bolt they've tried to catch, just saying that this guy is absolutely broken. When you're walking way more guys than Maikel Cleto, you're pretty much boned. (And maybe a part of me feels guilty that the Knights lead MiLB in attendance and they're being subjected to this )
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) It's stunning how bad the relief options have been in Charlotte since Petricka/Putnam were promoted. The poor catcher has to deal with Cleto and Rodriguez now, and it's not like Veal has pinpoint command. It may be one of the worst bullpens of all time. Every time I look at a Charlotte box score from left to right it looks like someone who vaguely knows how to count trying to count to 10.
  3. And one of the worst hitters in all of baseball walks it off. Robin is a genius.
  4. Henry Rodriguez walks the first two guys he faces, moves them to 2nd and 3rd with a wild pitch, gets a strikeout, walks the next guy to load the bases and gives up the game-losing single. I know it's a reclamation project and all that, but I'm sort of like what's the point, dude's always walked way too many and has taken it into overdrive this year - over 50 walks in a little over 30 innings.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) I love listening to Melton. He calls Putnam Putman. Worst superhero ever
  6. Second outing in a row Danks has gone scoreless for most of his outing before giving up 2 homers
  7. Danks had just got his ERA to a flat 4, but before he could get to the 3s gives up a homer
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) The difference between the worst team (D-backs) and the 12th worst team (Sox), is four games. Pretty amazing the difference is that small past the half way point. Time for us to make a run
  9. QUOTE (1dog @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Since June 4th, this starting Major League Baseball catcher is 7 out of 64 (.109) with 33 strikeouts. I say we keep running him out there. He's due. Hey, it's .109 higher than .000
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 07:17 PM) Surprised Viciedo didn't strike out there. How close was it to getting through? Lined right at Kendrick
  11. I remember during his streak when some people were predicting Tyler would finish the year hitting .250 and people thought it was very pessimistic. July 2nd, .233 And that's with a meh amount of walks and power way down
  12. A big July for Danks could be huge for the future of the Sox
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) Nothing yet on him. Signed https://twitter.com/LeoLopez7/status/484367114002632704
  14. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 12:28 AM) I'm calm. I'm just not going to listen to a guy that's never seen a baseball game try to quantify a player's defensive ability and how it impacts a game. I'm not going to listen to the same guy talk about tools and upside. I'm sorry, but it's garbage. Chances are that Viciedo and Beckham will continue to disappoint, but I would be patient with the younger, more gifted player. Leaving aside the jibes, what is there to say that Viciedo is more gifted? He can do one thing better than most guys, and he can't even do it that much better. Beckham does a number of things about the same, a little worse or a little better than most guys, which ends up in him being a little below-average, but still useful. I might be willing to cut Dayan some slack and point to others who have been late bloomers but a) the ones being pointed out by others started off from a higher floor and b) unlike them, Viciedo's numbers are trending downwards pretty much every year. I'm fine with saying I think we know exactly what he have in both - Beckham is a below-average player who can be of some use, Dayan is hovering about replacement level and doesn't show any signs of being anything more than that. I'm trading both for just about anything, but assuming all things were equal (salary, positional prospects etc.), if I had to keep one, it'd be Beckham. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Just looking at Fan Graphs, Peralta is a 9.1 WAR fielder this year and Alexei is -2. Am I supposed to believe that? That's UZR, it doesn't = WAR, it's not reliable in small sample sizes, Alexei has been rated as plus on defence by the system overall this year (but declining year on year) and Peralta's defence has improved a lot.
  15. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 12:06 AM) Get out of here with your Bulls*** War garbage. Viciedo is a better player with more upside. I don't care what your garbage defensive stats say. I'm fine with advanced stats for offense, but when it comes to defense, just stop. Calm down dude. Even apart from stats, does your eye test not tell you that Viciedo is a butcher in the outfield and Beckham is acceptable at second?
  16. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) I'll be patient with Viciedo for a long time because his good tools are extreme. Even if he doesn't ever figure it out, he's still somewhat productive. He's definitely worth the wait, especially considering he's not being pushed. I've given up on Beckham because his tools aren't in the same vicinity. His hit tool is negated by his ugly swing. His glove is negated by his range. Beckham no longer has a peak worth waiting on. Kinda the opposite. Beckham, even if he doesn't have it figured out, has the floor of being above replacement level. Viciedo has been below replacement level this season and last because if he's not raking, he's not valuable in the slightest.
  17. Holy s***, knew Leury was bad but just looked up his stats, didn't realise he was *that* bad. Yikes.
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:46 PM) How do they not control it? They obviously control each at-bat, but the extent to which pretty much every player's stats with RISP and non-RISP vary each year indicates that players don't really hit better or worse in general with RISP, and that any disparity is just statistical randomness. If you take general stats and break them down into chunks, you're going to get statistical oddities when comparing the chunks (hence my day/night example), particularly when the sample is so small. It doesn't mean it's a good indication going forward.
  19. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) I think that is comparing apples to oranges.. Hitting with RISP is something that is mentioned a lot is actually important. Well, it's important in terms of its outcome, but to me it's not something that players really control. Anyway, interesting to see other people's perspective on things.
