Tyler Flowers is your 2014 starting catcher
ShandyMan replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) Garcia does not have Mike Trout potential. He's an interesting prospect, and we've had so few position players like him in recent years that I can understand the excitement, but he is nowhere near Mike Trout. I don't think that he was implying he had Mike Trout potential. I think he was trying to make the point that Garcia can be a franchise-changer for the white sox in the way that Trout did for the Angels. Obviously not on the same level, but still significant. -
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) Of course it's still way early, but there's a reasonable chance that Kolek and Aiken are 1 and 2, which would virtually guarantee the correctness of your statement. In which case the sox management all go crazy with joy since we get Rodon. Either way, we are in a great position.
-
Unfortunately, there is no room for him. He'll be back at some point, one of De Aza and Viciedo will be gone by the all-star break. I'd rather RH take his time and find the right deal.
-
I'd remember that much of what you are hearing publicly for anyone within the Sox organization is also posturing for whatever reason. There is a difference between the Kris Honel's of the world and Tyler Kolek/Brady Aiken. With that said, it is still extremely early in the process.

Nice piece on Adam Eaton...Quintana's "problem"

Just goes to show how much you can't look too far into ST stats. I'm glad that they broke a story with this though. -
I'd love for Rodon to fall to us. He is still a great pitcher despite the results this year.
-
Yep. They said the CF camera is out. Dunn with a great AB.... lol

The Most Interesting Rebuilding Club in the AL

This was a fantastic read. It really is cool how much attention the sox are getting from their efforts this off-season. -
Excited to watch the game today, I really hope Semien forces his way onto this team.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) I believe he is referring to Koleks 35 K in 15 IP which is 21 K/9. Correct.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) I would think they're trying to work on a deal with Washington to keep Nieto in the system. They'll go with Gimenez unless they make a trade. I think its the other way around; they'll go with Nieto unless they make a trade.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) Keith Law had an insider writeup on C Alex Jackson . Pretty positive outlook. Law says he'd just move him to an OF corner and let him rake. He says that Brady Aiken looks really good. 6'4 LHP that throws 94-97 with a plus curve. He mentioned that Aiken will be in the top 5-6 mix when it's all said an done. Law also says that the Marlins have been linked to Tyler Kolek and the Cubs to Tyler Beede. I see Jackson as a dark-horse for our pick. Kid has some serious potential with the bat.

Here's a scale to use: 0 = never plays in the Bigs 1 = cup of coffee/outright bust 2 = useful role player or specialist for a couple years 3 = very useful bench/backup/utility/MR option 4 = borderline starting position player OR high quality setup man OR 5th starter, several seasons in the bigs 5 = average starting position player all around OR quality closer OR #4 type of starter, several seasons in the bigs 6 = above average starting position player all around OR dynamite closer OR #3 starter 7 = generally an All-Star level position player OR #2 type of starter 8 = perennial All-Star position player OR true ace SP 9 = HOF candidate Here are the names, no particular order: Jose Abreu - 8 Keon Barnum - 1 Rangel Ravelo - 4 Marcus Semien - 5 Micah Johnson - 6 Carlos Sanchez - 4 Leury Garcia - 3 Clelius Rondon - 3 Connor Gillaspie - 3 Matt Davidson - 5 Trey Michalscaweersdfski - 5 Avisail Garcia - 7 Dayan Viciedo - 5 Adam Eaton - 6 Jordan Danks -3 Jared Mitchell - 1 Trayce Thompson - 3 Keenyn Walker - 2 Adam Engel - 3 Jacob May - 3 --- Chris Sale - 9 Jose Quintana - 7 Erik Johnson - 6 Chris Beck - 5 Scott Snodgress - 4 Daniel Webb - 4 Nate Jones - 4

I kept my eye on him last year, I think he has the chance to become a great player if he can add a little bit more power. I did not know he was that young though.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 08:31 AM) A signable star. If you're picking Kolek or Jackson at #3 you make sure that you sign them. It would be a huge blow to this organization if they failed to do so.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) Many times the players decide who should go where... Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 25m Third base prospect Matt Davidson 2-for-18 this spring. Both hits doubles, today's a warning track fly ball lost in sun. Three Ks. All it takes is for him to get hot and that changes real quick.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 01:02 AM) After thinking long and hard about the draft, Tyler Kolek has to be the pick at #3. The Sox really need to pair Sale with another legit stud in the rotation. (If Kolek is not there, I would take Alex Jackson) Completely agree. #3 is not the place you make a "safer" pick. At #3, you need a star.
-
Nola would be a 2nd round pick for us, but he likely won't be there. He's a good pitcher, but not someone i'm taking at #3.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) ESPN tidbits on Kolek: "It's a deep group," an NL East scout said. "You've got guys like Tyler Kolek, who have the imposing size and fastball, but you wonder about the projection and if the secondary offerings are good enough to make him a legit ace. Kolek was 92-98 in his outing against Lumberton HS, striking out 11 in six no-hit innings. His off-speed pitches were just average, but the impressive arm-strength that was on display at several events in August was clearly still there on Monday. Kolek doesn’t offer much in terms of projection and some scouts worry about his already massive 6-foot-5, 250-pound frame, but a fastball that will touch triple-digits and a curve that will flash plus also has some scouts salivating. Kolek is already massive at 6-foot-5 and roughly 250 pounds, but hit 100 mph last week with a better slider and curveball than he'd shown last summer. The lack of secondary pitches kinda scares me, but these can be taught since he is only 18. I'd like to see him drop a few LBS

Hopefully Hahn can work the magic one more time this offseason.

Good day for the future today. Keep it up jose and spanky.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 5, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) Western Illinois has a draft prospect with some helium. Not an option at number 3 obviously, but in-state guys always interest me. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/und...-tyler-willman/ Nick Burdi is another guy from instate. Although he projects as a reliever. Played against him in HS.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 5, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) Dear god that lineup is awful. Why are Abreu and Eaton sitting again? Long season, they are still getting their work in on the side
-
Nothing surprising couldn't see many of them sticking around very long
