QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) Ads for "male enhancement" (penis enlargement) pills, which are very obviously a scam, it's mind-numbing to me that these commercials are even allowed on TV since they're overtly advertising fraudulent business practices. There is no such thing, they may as well be advertising a one-dose AIDS remedy. On the same subject, ads for ED-related pills that come on constantly during sporting events. However, at least these are legit. Graphic, or descriptive ads for sexual enhancement pills (also legit at least) that come on the radio when it's not late at night. Come on now, I have kids in the car sometimes. 100% inappropriate, and they come on so often. Mr room-mate bought some of those last weekend, and got 2 adult movies chucked in for free (the pills arrived on Saturday). When asking how much larger in size it would make his penis, the salesman said and I quote "Sir, I guarantee that these pills will make your penis larger".

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 25, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) That Jagermeister stuff is just about the most vile concoction ever made. It seems almost every evening discussed on here that involves the stuff ends up with puking and a horrible hangover. I avoid that cr@p like the liquid plague it is, and I am much the better for it. Agreed. Shots of things like Zambucca don't do it for me either. I just stick to beers now, unless I want to get majorly smashed, then I'll go for Vodka.

I saw Marc Iavaroni got fired by Memphis last night also. My guess is he ends up coaching Toronto next season.

Keith Law got run out of Toronto. That should say enough about his baseball expertise. It's only 1 person's opinion regardless.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) Ivan Rodriguez is... not... Pudge. There was one Pudge, and that guy actually knew how to call a game. Exactly, hence why the White Sox won't be signing I-Rod, especially when you consider why Olivo was run out of town 4 or 5 years ago. I would have loved to get Henry Blanco though, and was annoyed when he signed with the Padres for only $750,000.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) Snore. Old and boring. I don't think the Magic are better though... they are overrated and Jameer Nelson is destined to come back down to Earth. However, the Cavs and Lakers are better teams than the Celtics. Nelson's numbers have been going up from month to month since the start of the season. Even if he only averages 15PPG from here on out, he'll still end up averaging around 16PPG, and have a 2.5:1 A/TO ratio.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) And the Celtics remind everybody they're still the team to beat. Impressive road win tonight against a really good Orlando team. Probably our worst performance of the season so far shooting wise, so a little heartening that we only lost by 10. We've got to work on our dribble penetration and ability to find the open man for the 3 against the Celtics though. Also not let Big Baby shoot sweet jumpers whenever he wants.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Sir Alex i saying Ronaldo isn't going anywhere and that it'll take at least 120 million Euros to move him. Man City can easily afford that.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Skimming over the lostpedia boards, some of the crew that was shown yesterday could of been Rousseu's team. Oy ve. My head hurts. Now that makes some sense, considering they were all British and she was French. Does that mean they've gone back in time about 16 years ago though?

QUOTE (juddling @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) Don't know if it was mentioned anywhere else on here but one year ago today (1/22) Heath Ledger's body was found. Yep, and he got nominated for an Oscar today. I don't care who else wins, I just want Heath Ledger to win an Oscar for his performance.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Personally, I'd be most worried about Miami in the 2010 FA derby. As things stand right now even with all of their options on young guys exercised AND Dwayne Wade's $17 mil player option factored in their cap total for the 2010 off-season is around $35 mil. They can easily afford to bring in another max player besides Wade. They have an awful lot of things going for them: a top-5 player in the league, another potential stud with Beasley, a popular warm-weather destination and IIRC no income tax. Of course that's moot if they go after Boozer this year, but who knows. Cleveland is in a similar situation where they can afford Lebron and another stud, and if Portland waits until 2010 to pay Aldridge and Roy as well as let some of their young guys go (Outlaw, Blake, Frye and Diogu) they can have enough room for a max deal too. Personally if I'm a FA I take all of those places over New York, and probably Chicago too if Rose does what we all think he will, and they're a well-supported team in a major market too. I forgot about Miami, you're definitely right in saying they'll be a player come FA, but that'll obviously depend on Boozer, who won't be with Utah next season due to Millsap's emergence. I mean the Bulls should try to get 1 stud in 2010 obviously, but they still might not get one. Not sure if Paxson's willing to take that risk, with his job probably on the line right now.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Yeah, I just caught that too with the 27 Mil. We are still in a decent position for 2010. The salary cap should be at about 60 Million. we may not have 50 Million to spend like NY or Det (but how much do you really need for 1 major signing) . If we deal Noc and/or Kirk, it puts us in position for a 2010 run especially if we let Gordon walk. I still think we can re-sign Gordon (it would have to be no more than 10 mil per) and make a run. If we can't deal Noc or Kirk for cap space, then we should just let Ben walk. Hinrich I can see being dealt for a 2010 ending contract, if that's what the Bulls want to do. They could probably offer Hinrich and Gooden for Brad Miller right now, and get a deal done. I can't see you dealine Nocioni for a 2010 ending deal though. He plays too much as it is, is overpaid, and has a bad reputation around the league. I think you're stuck with him until his deal finishes. In all of this, let me say that of course people will want to play with Derrick Rose, the kid's a stud. But compare it to New York. They've got a coach with proven success (albeit not playoffs), who incorporates a system that probably 99% of players in the NBA would love to use. They play in the biggest market and in the most famous arena in the world. If I'm Amare Stoudemire and I had a choice b/w New York and Chicago, I'm going with the Knicks because I've done well under D'Antoni, and I would be marketed like crazy in New York.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) Alonzo Mourning retired. I always feel really sad when players are retiring that I remember watching when I was younger. As a matter of fact, I still have a Hornets poster of him in my room, it hasn't left its spot in probably 12 years, haha. Yeah him and Larry Johnson were 2 of my favorite players back in the day. Sad to see him finally retire, but he probably should have done it sooner.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) Call up Michael Scofield. I hear he's out of a job soon anyway... Too bad Hurley and Lincoln Burrows look nothing alike. I don't think you'd see Hurley climbing out via a wire anytime soon regardless.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) The Knicks are not in a better position. They have cap space for 2010? So do the Bulls (+ Rose). Though, I won't go on record and say that the Bulls position is dramatically better than NY. It is pretty close to even. ATM, how much space will the Bulls have in 2010, if they stand pat? I assume the contracts of Rose, Noah, Deng, Hinrich and Nocioni will be on the books, and that's not to mention the possible re-signings of Ben Gordon and maybe Tyrus Thomas (not sure if he's a FA in 2010 or 2011).
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) The Knicks don't have Derrick Rose. Thusly, they are not in a better position. When your best young player is Wilson Chandler or David "No D" Lee, I just can't buy into what you're selling. Say the Knicks end up signing Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash in 2010 though (and that's a worst case scenario with them missing out on LeBron). PG - Nash SG - Chandler SF - Gallnari PF - Lee C - Stoudemire Compare that to the Bulls; PG - Rose SG - Gordon? SF - Deng PF - Thomas? C - Noah But that's assuming the Bulls don't sign a major FA in 2010, which as Zoom pointed out, is going to be quite hard for them. I read a rumor today though that Portland is interested in Luol Deng to be that 2nd scorer guy next to Brandon Roy. Would you do LaFrentz + something for Deng, if it got you enough cap-space to sign a major FA in 2010? And it won't matter for the Bulls if they have Derrick Rose, if they're going to be horribly coached and have sub-par talent put around him.

So how do they get Hurley out of Jail now within 70 hours?

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) The problem is that the Bulls may not even have enough space to go after one of the studs. Even if they let Gordon, Gooden and Hughes walk and out-right Cedric Simmons, they'll still need to find someone to give them a comparable expiring deal for Hinrich, Nocioni or Deng (even then they may be a few mil short depending on where the cap/max salaries end up), which likely won't be an easy sell since damn near everyone in the league is going to be trying to do the same thing. Or alternatively they can simply out-right Tyrus and/or Thabo to save a bunch of money, but I would think that's not terribly likely. Either way, it'll take a lot of maneuvering/cost-cutting just to be one of the 16 teams or so trying to convince a good free agent to sign with their team, and some of them may re-sign/not opt out/pick up their option by then. It will probably be a lot easier in this market to get someone to give you their talented-but-overpaid player for expiring contracts like Hughes and Gooden. Hence why the Bulls are in a bad position right now. I'd even say the Knicks are in a better position than Chicago is right now. They have a better coach, players who will want to play for that team now, and they'll have the cap-space to sign 2 big-time FA's in 2010, depending on what they do with David Lee (who's playing at an all-star level right now). Paxson got interviewed in the Sun-Times and basically absorbed all blame, saying VDN shouldn't get any. Both should be fired though.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) Any global warming climate change regualations for the enviro freaks will have a negative impact on the economy. The question is: To what extent will they hurt the economy? Well if you're answering that question, you have to decide which issue is more important. As NSS72 pointed out though, you can make some economic benefits by improving the environment however.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) I honestly think, and this is all me, I’ve seen nothing to prove it, that the Bulls would be NUTS to not make an offer for Elton Brand. Gooden, Noah, Nocioni and a pick. The 76ers have proven they play better without him (8 game winning streak of recent until they lost the other night), and Brand has proven he’s not even close to 100%. However, you let Brand rest most of the rest of the season (limited minutes, keep him in game shape though) and put him on a workout regimen to improve the strength in his legs and shoulders. Next year, you have a very solid base where Deng can begin doing what he does best: slashing, and Rose can set them both up. Having Gordon around would be bonus, but he’s likely gone. Here's what I'm thinking on that offer. 1 - Nocioni has no value to the 76ers whatsoever. They've already got Iggy and Thadeus Young to man the SF spot. 2 - Gooden's a FA after this season, and I don't know if the 76ers would re-sign him. I think considering how much better the 76ers are in an uptempo system, Tyrus Thomas would have to be included in a deal to get Brand. Something like Thomas, Sefolosha, Noah and a 1st rounder for Brand I think is more around the mark. Also, I don't see how Brand would fit in the offensive system currently under VDN, also considering that Gooden has complained about his lack of low post opportunities.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) I'm actually expecting a huge year from Konerko assuming he can stay healthy. That's always been the question with Paulie, with his hip issue and everything. Still he had an .910 OPS in the 2nd half of last season, basically on a huge September with 9 HR's. I don't know if he's a .270 hitter though, something around the .250 mark, very similar to what Thome has put up I think will be the norm going forward.
