If I was going to pick a trade scenario, I would go with Earl Watson for Bogans and Cook or Keyon Dooling for Bogans with a 2nd rounder thrown in.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 12:24 AM) It looks to me like Dye + $3M = Bailey. So the Sox would be pitching in a little cash to help pay for Dye's salary. So his logic is the Sox clear $8M in payroll and add a young, incredibly cheap, high upside starter because in these economic times that $8M gets you quite a bit on the open market (Abreu) and young, cheap players are at a premium. Didn't Jockerty say they were set now after signing Willy Taveras? Which is really pretty stupid, because Dye does make a lot of sense to them. But maybe they should have gone after Pat Burrell a little bit harder when he was a FA.

That is honestly probably the most stupid trade proposal I've ever seen on SoxTalk, and that's saying something, being a part of this site for almost 6 years.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) Some measure of draft picks, Battie and Bogans/Cook for Hinrich. The Bulls clear a lot of salary, both this year and in the future, suddenly have room to offer Gordon extra money, and potentially still have room to offer Bosh a max contract in 2010 depending on Gordon's final number and the final cap #. Bogans has an ending deal this season, while Battie and Cook have ending deals in 2010. The thing is, Orlando needs Bogans' deal to come off the books this season, so that they can re-sign Hedo Turklogu for 10M a season and stay under the luxury tax. Plus, Otis Smith doesn't like trading draft picks. I'd say we'd probably only offer Cook and Battie.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Offseason Thread

For the Cowboys, TO needs to be released, Kyle Kosier needs to be healthy, and we need a find a playmaking FS who can defend the pass. Since Chris Canty is leaving it seems, we'll need a DT/DE to replace him. Luckily we traded a 1st and a 3rd for Roy Williams (thanks Jerry). I would also like to draft an OT to develop behind Flozell Adams. DeMarcus Ware also needs to be locked up. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) Abreu is no doubt trying to negotiate a 2nd year in any deal. Absolutely. My prediction is he ends up in Seattle when it's all said and done. If he wants the best chance to put up good numbers on a 1 year deal though, the White Sox are a perfect match for him.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) god help us if its anything besides 1...I have a better chance playing 3rd for the sox this year than Konerko, so #3 is out, and i dont think anyone in the sox front office is actually willing to play abreu in Cf so i dont see that happening If anything, I'd say Quentin would be the most likely to play in CF. But it's not going to happen, so there's no point in speculating about it.

Torn Labrum for Nelson, he can either rehab it, or have surgery and miss the season. Tough, tough decision, but you got to remember how a dislocated shoulder affected Dwayne Wade. I'd assume he'll try the rehab.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Is there any possibility that we can trade Dye in some package for Matt Kemp? Brian Anderson/Dye for Kemp? Someone's got to play CF for the Dodgers (especially considering Andruw Jones isn't there anymore).

QUOTE (Nixon @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) EA has gotten better in recent years and has taken chances on new properties (Dead Space and Mirror's Edge for example)... They need to quit being dicks with the DRM though. PC game wise they've really gone downhill in the last few years as they've focused on Console Gaming. As a PC gamer, that's why I dislike EA also.

FWIW Abreu had a RZR of .872 last season compared to Dye's .887. Not a huge difference, but that was also Dye's highest RZR in a season since he's been with the White Sox.

If the Angels chucked in a decent prospect along with Figgins, I would pull the trigger on that deal, if you could get Bobby for 1/8.

QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) Unlikely that anyone would trade for Dye with Abreu still available as a free agent... But by signing Abreu, KW might be able to make a create a market for JD. Pretty creative if true. The Sox would be stuck with 3 OF's who could only play in corner OF spots though. Don't think they can take that sort of chance.
-
Must be contingent on the Sox being able to trade Dye to someone I would have thought. Maybe the Sox would attach an option on that deal also possibly?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) Jameer Nelson dislocates shoulder, Magic lose to Mavs. MRI for him tomorrow. Ok Magic, seriously, you could have used Hinrich before...if Nelson's out for any length of time, now you really need him. Make us a fair offer. Basically the only contract that we could offer that would fit is Tony Battie's, and he's an ending deal for 2010. My guess is, AJ will be the starter from here on in, and hopefully we get Nelson back by the playoffs. We can say goodbye to the #1 or 2 seed in the East now though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Right now, no one, and I mean no one in a way I'm not sure I've meant before...wants to face the Cavs in Cleveland. The Celtics last year showed that you could actually survive the playoffs basically winning only at home for the first 3 rounds. And they weren't doing at home what Cleveland is doing. That's why if Cleveland got the #3 seed, they'd be in real big trouble. I don't think they can win on the road in the playoffs against Boston or Orlando. At home, definitely, on the road, no. I think they trade Wally's deal for something at the deadline, because I still think they're missing a piece.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) Annual surplus or total numbers in the black? Bush inherited a surplus and then basically torpedoed it completely with his combination of the Iraq invasion and tax cuts (which I never understood). As far as the last time the federal government hasn't had debt, I don't even know. A looooooong time ago. Annual surplus. I wasn't surprised at the answer, although I couldn't remember when exactly. Makes a lot of sense.
-
When was the last time the Federal Budget had a surplus FWIW?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) OK, not anymore. DBAHO, I must say... I'm impressed. Great home showing by Orlando tonight. Yep, big win for us even if SVG says it's just another game. We've got to show that we can beat Cleveland or Boston. Getting that #1 seed is going to be absolutely crucial.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Fixed. The only reason I drank it was because it was free. Very, very strong though.

Absinthe is lethal. Thank god it's Friday.

I criticized him a lot in his time here, but that's a good deal for the Giants. His good defensive play will be missed.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) Ok, so I watched the Bulls game last night to determine for myself where the real issue is. I came away with a few different thoughts. The best lineup on the floor when I was watching was: Heinrich, Thabo, Rose, Deng and Tyrus with an occasional sub by Gordon. The reason I was impressed by this lineup was the passing first and foremost, the defense and also the speed that they played. I was reminded of a time when a 6'8" Magic Johnson was the tallest man on the floor for the 1979 Lakers. I am not trying to compare the two teams, but this was the first time I think I actually grasped VDN's system. DRose is VERY good on the break, and in the secondary break. He runs a half court well, but obviously is good in space when matched up 1v1. Deng was much more aggressive in the game because I think he does better when running down the wing given an option to drive or pass instead of being a pull up player. Gordone and Heinrich are better spotting up for kickouts and Thabo looked fantasic making plays, passing and playing great defense. it was the first time I actually thought the team was running an actual offense with a purpose. COULD we run a smaller team and run and gun? I am not sure, but I think Rose is a pretty good player to build around if you want to play that way. The backcourt trio of Thabo, Kirk and Rose was fairly long, defended well and was unselfish. Honestly if the Bulls aren't going to find a good big with decent low post skills, that's exactly what they should do. Hence why D'Antoni would have been so perfect. I see the Knicks making the playoffs this season BTW.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) episode 2 pwned episode 1. I loved Jermaine's rule of no laughing during sex. Must have a shower before sex also. I was ROFL'ing when that Nigerian guy actually turned up next to Murray. Good, good episode.
