Ok say Paxson is fired. Give me an ideal GM/Coach combo that can take over.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) Oh, so now we're supposed to care about how convicts want things spelled? COME ON! /Gob Right, well I'm just going to call America, Yankville from now on.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) I can probably put up with being cold and wet for a little while if it means not drowning and whatnot. I'd b**** later, of course. Obviously yes. Just saying that weather conditions aren't exactly ideal out there ATM. Luckily, everyone survived and that's the main thing. Sounds like the pilot did an excellent job.

Just crazy. I live right on the Hudson, in Jersey, and would probably have a good view from there if I was home at the moment. Apparently a flock of birds flew into the plane, and the pilot did the right thing in landing in the river. Not a good day to be there ATM though, considering the weather.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) I also hate that I always seem to go to the bathroom at work right when someone's dropping a deuce. I wish they'd put a fan or some windows in there or something. It's all about the Courtesy Flushes.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Flight of the Conchords starts up this Sunday....I think. They had a launch party for it on Tuesday over here with free food and drink, but because of a stupid class, I wasn't able to make it. The clip on Youtube with Murray being fired by Jermaine and Brett is hilarious though (and shipps, no I do not sound like Murray ok).

We had loads of snow this morning (made for a nice slippery walk to the subway this morning), but it's stopped now. It's about 20 outside. Meant to be 15 tomorrow, and then a wind chill of -5 tomorrow night (perfect conditions for a Friday Night out in Manhattan).

Toronto also has Hill and Scutaro up the middle for 2009 currently correct?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) Honestly, I'd really rather not see Poreda in the pen. The main thing keeping him from being an MLB ready starter is a successful 3rd pitch, I think he's been working on a slider quite a bit. If he's coming out of the pen, he'll never be using his 3rd pitch in a game situation. I'd rather have him getting innings. But Hey, if he earns the bullpen slot and the team goes with it, then maybe he can learn it in the pen. Hence why signing a 2nd lefty for the pen could be shrewd acquisition. Someone like Joe Beimel or Dennys Reyes would be ideal, but they are probably asking for more than KW is willing to give I would imagine.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) I'd love for Kenny to give Freddy the same deal he just gave Colon. If it doesn't work out, again, little is lost. Agreed. Never hurts to have as many good arms as you can, and like I said before, it moves CR/AP/JM into roles that they're probably more comfortable and will be more effective in; CR - Longman out of pen. AP - 2nd lefty to replace Logan or starting in AAA. JM - Starting in AAA, and taking the Gavin Floyd route up to the majors from there.
-
JC's contract is off the books at the end of the 2009 season correct? What was the deal about insurance possibly covering it also? On the Colon signing, I like the move, and I still hope that we potentially sign Freddy Garcia still, as I think CR is suited to being the longman out of the pen being able to throw 3 innings when needed, and AP can either start from the pen, or go back to AAA to start there, which would probably be better for the long - term.
-
The Marlins would only sign OC, if he was willing to take a 1 year deal around the 3M mark I'd say.

Kobe looked PISSED when he walked out at the end there.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 04:55 PM) Tonight: Clear, with a low around -22. Wind chill values as low as -35. North northwest wind between 8 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Thursday: Sunny and cold, with a high near -6. Wind chill values as low as -40. Northwest wind between 7 and 10 mph. Ugh. And I thought it was cold enough over here. How do you seriously put up with that?

QUOTE (MO2005 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) No because next year our payroll will be 60-65 million I very much doubt that. The economy's due to back on track in 2010, and the Sox should be able to raise the payroll over the amount if they want to.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) According to TheScore, Colon is in Chicago right now. Freddy is going to pick in the next few days between a few teams: White Sox, Mets, Yankees and Rangers. I predict Colon signs here. Freddy signs with the Mets. Perez will re-sign with the Mets it looks like giving them a rotation of Santana, Maine, Perez, Pelfrey and Redding. They could use another arm, but they've got Niese who can fill in if needed. I still think Freddy is more likely to sign here in Chicago than Colon. I'd probably still prefer to have either starting 2009 on the cheap than Poreda or Marquez though (both should be back in AAA to start the season).

Just a FYI, we're up to 4200 members now. Soxtalk keeps growing and growing.

False. Took Accounting and Finance Majors in a Business Degree, now I'm working for an Investment Bank, that is pretty much screwed ATM. The person below me will be seeing snow in their area tomorrow.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) Yep, especially if Yankees get more for Swisher than we did. In the current market, good luck to them is all I'm going to say. They'll trade Nady instead anyways.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) Christiano Ronaldo won 2008 FIFA Player of the Year yesterday He also crashed his Ferrari last week. I would also expect Scolari to be sacked from Chelsea by the end of the season.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) There's a difference between the dribble-drive-motion and the 7 seconds or less system that D'Antoni runs. The former is based around having players that can successfully drive to the basket and either finish himself, find the big man on a lob when the defense collapses, or passing it back out to the perimeter when the next player either drives himself or takes an open jumper. The Bulls sort of run that now but poorly, basically they set a pick for Rose (officially the DDR doesn't use picks, it relies on spacing) and if he doesn't get to the basket it gets kicked out to someone that generally shoots a jumper. As constructed they can't run it particularly well because Rose is their only consistently effective driver and Gordon is their only guy that can consistently hit outside jumpers, ideally you have at least two guards that can do both (ie Harris and Carter in New Jersey). D'Antoni's system is different, it's predecated on playing at a fast pace and shooting a large number of threes. Ideally the team gets an open look within the first 7 seconds of the shot clock and forces the other team into mistakes by playing at their pace. To run it at maximum efficiency you need a solid PG that can be dominant in transition, create good shots for himself and others in the halfcourt and ideally hit 3's, at least two wing players that hit a high percentage from outside, an athletic and versatile forward that has SF skills but can also defend the other team's PF, and an athletic big man that can run the floor and get some easy baskets. Rose and Gordon are pretty good fits, but they'd need to change their roster quite a bit at the forward spots. I don't really think Callipari and the dribble-drive-motion is going to solve the problem since the roster is horribly flawed, but then again it'd be hard to be worse than Del Negro. Hence why someone such as Luol Deng is such a horrible fit in VDN's offense right now. You've got build your offense around the strength of your players. Yes, Rose should be able to drive and penetrate, that's his game. But unless you have forwards like Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu sitting out on the perimeter, that type of offense isn't really going to work. I've long been tooting Tom Thibodeau's horn as a head coach. When you look at Boston's D, and how Rondo has come on as a point guard, and yet all of the forward likes Pierce etc. don't have to jack up 3's, that's why I thought he was the perfect candidate for the Bulls. If they win less than 35 games this season (distinct possibility), they need to blow everything up, and rebuild with a new GM and coach. Because the danger is, even with such a big market, if you can't get the team into a top 4 playoff contender with Derrick Rose, what's to stop his bolting when his rookie contract finishes?
