That's very disappointing for Nevin. I remember most around here were very happy for us to pick him up in the draft.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Dwight Howard's knee has to be concerning. As for Nash, I doubt the Knicks have much interest in 2010. He'll be, what? 36? The Knicks are going to have basically $40M in cap room come 2010. I don't think they'll get Lebron, but I'd say they'll get either Bosh or Amare. Nash I think would sign for the MLE. He spends his off-season living in Manhattan, he loves D'Antoni, so it's basically a perfect fit. Him and Duhon rotating at the PG spot would probably be the best PG combo in the league. I think they're just being careful with Dwight, nothing serious. With the way the team is playing anyways (beating Utah on the road without Dwight), there's no need to rush him back. SVG has to be COTY right now I'd say.

Joe Nelson would be nice.

The sad thing is now, I think when a lot of people in the future look back at George W. Bush's presidency, they're going to remember this incident as how people felt about him. I found it funny how this wasn't even on the front-page in a lot of newspapers. Show how far Bush has slipped in terms of popularity and how no one cares about him anymore.

I'm probably going to trade in my Wii in a few months actually. Have sort of stopped playing it, and I'm more of a serious gamer anyways.

I do agree that shipping out Nic and signing Sundin makes the most sense right now, but there still has to be a good trade partner for Khabibulin, you're not just going to give him away for nothing. That's the hard part for Tallon right now. And Sundin may sign with Toronto, the Rangers or the Canucks anyway.

Hearing Nash in the press today, I think it's basicaly a lock he joins D'Antoni in New York in 2010, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Amare joined him. Richardson is a good pick up for the Suns though, but as Steve said, they're short on front court depth, and they need Robin Lopez to develop in a hurry. The Magic are going for 4 for 5 on their West Coast Road Trip against Golden State tonight.

DeMarcus Ware is probably going to get the biggest contract in NFL history for a defensive player this off-season. And our defense has been very good since Wade Phillips took over the play-calling again. We need to beat Baltimore at home and Philly in Philly to make the playoffs. It can be done.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) I was watching something yesterday, the Yankees signed those 2 but how much have they improved their staff? Mussina won 20 last year. Maybe CC wins 20, but then its a push. Burnett gets hurt all the time, if Petitte doesn't come back, I don't think they are any better especially with Riviera a year older. Father time has to catch up to him sooner or later. Good point. I think it's very possible the Yankees could still come 3rd in that division next season. Don't forget they've lost Giambi and Abreu also, and they've basically replaced those 2 with Swisher and most likely Mike Cameron also. Don't think that's really an upgrade there. Phillip Hughes is basically the key in determining whether or not the Yankees make the playoffs in 2009 IMHO.

So it's basically 5M for this season with the signing bonus, and then 1.25M in 2010 and 2011, and then 2.5M in 2012. Will offer us some payroll flexibility for the next couple of seasons hopefully.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) I like Oasis a lot - I really liked the first song from Dig Out Your Soul (Shock of the Lightning), but I listened to some clips of other songs, and I agree with you. They're good (they're always good), but not great. Enjoy the show! Yeah I liked that song as well, this album's better than their last one I'd say. Seeing them on Wednesday at the Garden also which should be good.

Wasn't $1M as some were speculating. Pretty decent signing for a 4th/5th OF. Good clubhouse guy who can hit at the top or bottom of the order, you could do worse for a 5th OF based on 2008.
-
Much better to use that much money on a platoon partner than giving someone like Nick Punto (who can play 3B, but more likely SS in 2009 IIRC) 4M.
-
Ha Jameer has more votes than Rose, I love it. To be fair, Jameer is actually having a decent season though, and although I've criticized him in the past for being too small, I think he's a good enough starter at the PG position now.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 06:17 AM) Too bad about Cuttino Mobley. Patrick Ewing Jr's gonna get signed by the Knicks now.

Happy Birthday Mike!!!

Angels May Consider Trading For Dye or Paulie

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) Who would be PK's replacement? I don't think Abreu would be a fit then. We would probably get more for Dye unless the Angels lose out on Tex and they REALLY need a 1B. Dye could move to 1B and Abreu could play LF/RF. -
SS. I'd still love Hudson is he signed for less than Furcal, but I'd doubt that would happen, and Getz is likely to start there I'd say.

Would the Angels do Konerko for Weaver straight up? Weaver's pretty valuable. He's arbitration eligible IIRC this off-season, but he'd be under our control for 3 seasons. His ERA went up to 4.33 this season, but his BAA was down, and the HR rate went up a little. Konerko had a .910 OPS after the ASB, but he also had a line of .204/.295/.331 away from the Cell, which is a bit of a red flag. -
Those glasses would have been a better XMas Gift. I guess Santa came nice and early this year though.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 02:07 PM) Cameron deal is dead. Did they break down on the Yanks end or the Brewers end FWIW?

Is there a list of potential non-tender candidates out there?
DBAHO replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Gabe Gross is another candidate I believe. -
At least Jackson turned out better than Greg Miller did I guess.
-
If the Brewers traded Cameron for Melky straight up, they'd have the payroll flexibility to acquire Peavy I'd say. Not sure if they'd want to give up the prospects it's take to do however.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Check out my post above. There is a definite difference in production between the two. Well Abreu's a better hitter with RISP, I'll give him that. Just don't want to downgrade how good of a hitter JD has been for us over the past 4 seasons.
