FWIW, what is the list of FA SP's that won't cost draft picks to sign this off-season (Kalapse I know you're usually pretty good with this type of stuff)?
-
Steve9347 doesn't like the Bulin Wall.
-
I for one think we had an interest in Cabrera but with his constant underachieving over the past couple of seasons, we're more likely to look elsewhere or give some of our young talent (e.g Marquez) a shot first. I do think we need 1 more SP though, as I would like for Richard to be a swingman who can throw 3IP a game (a role in which he was very effective in during the playoffs).

If no other pitchers are acquired, after the Vaz trade...

QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) Marquez is going to get torched if he can't throw something besides a 90 mph sinker. I have to believe that they're only pushing him as their 5th starter because they haven't acquired the real guy yet. I don't care how gook he "looks" in the AFL (where he posted an ERA of 5.63), what about his numbers last season suggests he's anywhere ready to handle major league hitters? To be fair, a lot of people said that about Gavin Floyd also (not that I'm saying Marquez is going to be the next Gavin Floyd here, but my guess is they'll teach Marquez a cutter at least). -
I'll say b/w 90 and 95M. The Sox will still make a few acquisitions, but it wouldn't surprise if they made 1 more big trade (Jenks or Dye), to get younger and save some more $$$.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 12:59 AM) Leo Mazzone couldn't do anything with him. Some guys are what they are. He's just never going to be consistant, except perhaps consitantly bad. Mazzone didn't exactly have the greatest record in Baltimore either though FWIW.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) Thank you. I live here, and I love hockey, but there's no way I'm paying a f***ing dime to this organization while this turd is on the roster. That's how bad I hate him. I think it's likely they could buy him out now though, and his NHL Career could be over after this.

QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) I bought a Canon Powershot A1000 recently and I've been very pleased with it. I took the pictures I posted from the Arizona Fall League with it. I'm not sure about the video output format. I'll take a look and see what I can find more info. I've got a Canon Powershot SD1100 and it's served me well. Certainly recommend the Powershot range.

I've got a Canon Powershot and it does pretty well. Can't remember if it's 8 Megapixel or 12 Megapixels though.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) I don't think they ever saw Armstrong as the Answer anyway. He was behind Lucy on the chart until Lucy was hurt, and D Lucy has not exactly been a world-beater type prospect. Yeah choosing Lucy over Kurt Suzuki really hurts right now, but at least KW has recognised the important of good scouting / drafting and is rectifying that situation now.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) That's the only game I will miss on the 360. Has anyone played MLB Power Pros 2008 for the Wii? Yeah I have. It's pretty good, apparently not much has changed from 2007, but it's pretty good fun. Hard for beginners though, and I find it hard to move the fielders correctly with my nunchuck occasionally.

CanOfCorn is from a place in Chicago I've never been to.

Where abouts are San Francisco's and Oakland's Spring Training Locations at in Phoenix (if I wanted to see the games b/w the 19th and 22nd)?

ESPN radio reporting Mets/White Sox talks heating up...

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) DBAHO, with this economy teams are hesitant to go and sign FAs. The money isn't there this year, especially considering what K-rod is asking for. K-Rod may have to settle for 3/35. I think the Mets would still jump all over him for that. They've got some contracts coming off the books themselves (e.g Pedro Martinez). -

Unless you got Pelfrey, Murphy and Martinez for those 2, I don't think any trade with the Mets is worth it, to be frank. And Minaya can just go out sign Abreu and K-Rod, and not have to give up any of those 3. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) So you're on the record that Poreda will be a 3 starter or above at the big league level, yes? Because if not, giving up two relievers for a starting CFer and leadoff hitter under your control affordably for six years isn't such a bad move after all. Sure, we could trade for Matt Kemp or Nate McLouth, but that would cost us even more. I just don't think you can automatically assume that Borbon would come in and be a starting CF'er for us in 2009 from the get-go. Bobby Jenks alone could probably net you 2 top 10 prospects at least. Poreda's got #2 starter upside, and we've seen from Danks and Floyd how valuable good young pitching is.
-
If I'm giving up Jenks and Poreda, I want Carlos Beltran not this Borbon prospect (who I've never even heard of until now).

I think if any manager would be able to control Manny, it would be Ozzie anyways (not that I'm advocating signing Manny here though).

There's an interview with one of the writers on TelevisionWithoutPity.com about Season 5 also.

My building at work just started shaking for the 2nd time in 2 weeks. Really weird.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 11:31 AM) I'd deal JD before I dealt Bobby. JD's entering the downslope of his career and the Sox don't have anybody ready to step up into the closer role. Plus, that would allow Quentin to move to RF and Swish to play LF. They could get by with Anderson in CF, or possibly go after somebody like Taveras. Unless Thome re-structures his deal, he won't be moved. Too few options with that NTC. Swish ain't around no more.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) I think my comments dealt with people who are clamoring to trade Jenks for anyone listed on the AFL top 20 rankings, etc. I totally understand trading Vazquez, as there was no chance he was coming back after Ozzie called him out. I'd rather see the Sox hold on to Dye, as his production is so underrated. The only justification I can see to trading JD is if you got a very good young SP for him, and were able to sign a replacement in the FA market on a max 2 year deal. Otherwise I'd hold onto JD also.

Little surprised they're not gonna stick with Punto at 3B actually. Depending on the cost, Blake maybe a decent signing for them, but he may regress.
