Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) When Buff leaves, the toughness on this team takes a s***. They really need to get rid of Craig Adams for an enforcer then. That was a HORRIBLE move by Tallon acquiring C. Adams last season, when he's nothing more than a 4th liner at best, and he had 1 extra year on his deal.

Sox / Rays talking Jermaine Dye deal
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Could we be looking at Crawford? Now that's something that hasn't really been thrown up, but is something to consider IMHO; His numbers were really down in 2008 though; 06 - .305/.348/.482 07 - .315/.355/.466 08 - .273/.319/.400 Post ASB he was .286/.337/.468 though.

Hmmmm ok then. So let's toss out some names that could come our way. Willy Aybar Edwin Jackson Wade Davis - (B+ spect from Sickels, ready for 2009 possibly, been compared to Gil Meche) Jeremy Hellickson - (B+ pitching spect from Sickels, good mix of command and stuff) Jake Jeffries - (Catcher prospect, good contact hitting skills) Reid Brignac - (SS prospect, bat slipped in 2008 though) Matt Moore - (LHP spect) Nick Barnese - (RHP spect)

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
I'm surprised the Knicks would ship out Randolph to be honest, considering how good he's actually been in D'Antoni's system thus far. Still, I think he's got 3 years left on his deal, and Harrington's got 2, which could be the major factor. Trying to free up that cap space in 2010. I think it'll be straight up for Rose (with the Knicks maybe throwing in something else)?

Cubano, what can you tell us about these guys again?

Shane Victorino a possibility?
QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) Matt Kemp isn't a leadoff hitter and would cost a LOT to get. Yeah Kemp probably wasn't the best example to put in (with his K/BB ratio), but I'd love to get him anyway.

Our leadoff possibilities are tightening
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) Except it's going to take more than 3 years to get him. He's already received a couple 3 year deals and is now looking for 4 years, you have to think someone will be willing to go to 4 with him given the need for SS and leadoff hitters throughout the league. Well I'd look at an inflated 3 year deal possibly, but I guess with Furcal's injury history, it's a major risk to offer him a long - term deal, so buyer beware. My guess is the A's may get him maybe?
-

To be honest, if you could get Furcal for 3 years, I'd almost jump on that. He still makes a lot of sense for this team with the needs that we have.

Shane Victorino a possibility?
Right now I think the biggest need for the Sox is to find a leadoff hitting CF or 2Bman. Roberts would be ideal, but he won't come cheaply at all. If Hudson wants a 5 year deal, then he won't end up here. Here are some other names to maybe consider; Gregor Blanco - .251/.366/.309 Matt Kemp - .290/.340/.459 Fred Lewis - .282/.351/..440 Kelly Johnson - .287/.349/.446 Victorino's a real sparkplug for the Phillies and he gives them a lot of energy, so I'll doubt he'll get moved. Still KW moved Rowand after we won the world series in 2005 so I wouldn't rule anything out.

I'll throw out a name for discussion's sake, Gregor Blanco for the Atlanta Braves.

Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
Absolutely love the move. Long - term, I think he'll end up as an OF/DH, but that depends on how he applies himself with his body and gets himself into shape. I think he'll start next season at AAA, but a big ST as Ramirez did in 2008, may force the Sox's hand. And this really gives us a lot of options in regards to Fields. But as for Viciedo, he's got amazing power by all reports, and I think he could end up being the next Frank Thomas. That's a big statement, but I think he's got the talent to do so. He's really in the perfect situation (good environment in the clubhouse under Ozzie and with Jose and Alexei, and the ballpark he'll be hitting in) to have a great career.

Yankees to chase AJ Burnett
Some guy in Newsday wrote an article yesterday or today complaining why Sabathia hadn't signed for the Yankees yet, when they made him the biggest offer. Guess people in New York still haven't realized that money isn't everything, and that they can't always try to buy talent.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) I know I can't be the only one looking at the Titans being 10-0 and thinking they really just aren't... that... good...? Can I? They remind me a lot of when Baltimore won the Superbowl back in 2000 or whenever they did. Bulluck is comparable to Lewis, Haynesworth is that big D-Lineman, Collins manages the game like Dilfer did. Don't know if they're better than the Giants (watch out for Jacobs' knee BTW), but it wouldn't surprise me if they won it all.

Four added to 40-man
Wonder if they'll start Brandon out in AA or AAA next season. And at least quickman will be happy to see Whisler off the 40 man roster now.
-
Four added to 40-man
So we're at 37 now, which means we can make 3 more acquisitions before designating someone for assignment. My guess is a team such as Washington or Florida may make a claim at acquiring Whisler. I guess Richard doing what he did at the end of last season was the end for Wes.

Jack Bauer is back...
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) I swear I can't even remember the plot line from the last season, and I know I watched every single episode (like always). What was it even about? The Chinese? The Plague? The Arab guy doing all of the nuclear bombings, and then Jack killed him, and then it was the Chinese Ambassador and JAck's father vs. Jack. There better not be a VP wants to take over from the President stroyline again. Elisha Cuthbert may be making an appearance this season, which is always good.

Eric Hinske
Ok; 1 - Who on here has been for signing Colon? Because seriously, I haven't seen 1 person who would want him. 2 - If an aging Ken Griffey Jr. was going to be a difference maker, maybe it would have been back in 2005, but it didn't matter then. Didn't see anyone saying he was going to be the difference, but he was useful enough. 3 - Our ballpark isn't exactly suitable for playing "Twins - Like baseball" (hitting grounders that are hard to handle on astroturf for starters). 4 - Garcia came back from major arm surgery last season, adn wasn't 100%. To write him off currently though, is pretty stupid I would say. Who knows what he'll do next year. 5 - Hinske probably would have done better than what Swisher or Wise did at the end of last season I would say. Varitek, well that's just ludicrous, good luck trying to justify why you would want him. 6 - Give me OBP over speed anyday. But then again, speed doesn't slump does it.

What were Whisler's final numbers down in Charlotte again? Clevelan Santeliz would be a surprise I would have thought.
