  1. Saw Kings of Leon over the weekend. They only played for an hour and a half, but the place was rockin, and it was a good show. Taper Jean Girl's still my all time favorite of their's.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) There is no one group of people who flushed the economy down the toilet, so it's actually kind of a silly argument. Well I think there were steps that at least could have been taken to would have minimised the impact of the recession that we're all now experiencing. It may not be fair, but people are going to look at the Economic Crisis and blame Bush because he was the one in charge and let it all go to s***. That may not be right, but at least around the world that's the way it's been portrayed. Hell, the guy didn't even know what the G20 stood for (and the Australian PM just got snubbed by Bush because it got leaked).
  3. Should he be taking advice from Bush Era Economic Advisers then? Seems as if at least during the Clinton Era, the American Economy was doing just fine. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather take advice from people who have a proven record in doing a good job with the economy then from those who have flushed it down the toilet, so to speak.
  4. You realistically can't look at the deal until the end of next season to see; 1 - How Swisher does with Yankees 2 - How the prospects the Sox acquired have done 3 - How the Sox have used the money that they have saved by dumping Swisher's 22/3 contract.
  5. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) The Chargers defense was still pretty bad yesterday. Steelers racked up 410 yards, with 13 penalties for 115 yards as well. Steelers can get from the 20 to the 20 without any problems, but inside the redzone Ben either throws an interception or the OL gets blown up and the Steelers settle for field goals if anything. I saw that the Chargers had a decent pass rush for the 1st time all season also, but then again, Ben's the QB who argubly holds onto the ball longer than anyone else.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) We appreciate it. I think others on here do a good enough job of that anyway. FWIW, the Chargers who had been terrible on D with Cottrell as their D co-ordinator until he got canned, looked pretty decent against the Steelers with Rivera calling the plays. Still the conditions weren't exactly suited for a high scoring game anyways.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 10:01 AM) That'll die down and they'll wish they were in Seattle sooner, rather than later. I'm not sure. They got great crowds for the Hornets when they played there, and the Thunder are probably going to get the #1 pick this off-season. It reminds me of when Charlotte first started up and got major support in the early 90's.
  8. QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) Hey Stranger! Welcome back to this thread! It's been a few weeks huh? Ha, well no I've actually been posting most weeks on this thread. I just don't have to diss on the Bears every week (although I very well could after yesterday's performance).
  9. Dallas is back in it, after a big win last night. 6-4 now, with home games coming up against Seattle and SF. We should be 8-4 after those, and at least have our playoff destiny in our own hands. More importantly, the defense has stepped it up, with the decision to not play a zone coverage with the CB's anymore.
  10. The Rick Carlisle appointment is going well for Dallas ATM. They're 2-7, and a narrow loss to Orlando tonight. My guess is Cuban will shake things up soon, and ship out Josh Howard.
  11. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Exactly. MacDougal is garbage. Our only hope is for MacDougal to ask for a fresh start and get his release or get Ed Wade drunk. Brilliant idea.
  12. I'd take anything if we didn't have to pay his salary.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) IMO, that'd be a huge mistake. Bigger than with Riske. Uribe made what $4M or 5M in 2008? What do you think he'd make realistically if he were to accept arbitration with the Sox?
  14. At Bob Ueker says in ML2 "At least, they're not from Canada!". Good to hear Jordan enjoying himself in Arizona.

    Christmas Wish Lists

A Visa or a Green Card please. Or a nice American girl to marry within the next 5 months sounds good also.
  16. QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) On the other hand... there are alot of supposedly very good hitters in the AFL who were drafted ahead of Danks, or have AA and AAA experience, who are not hitting nearly as well as he is. So... we can revert to the small sample size argument... but just saying he should be hitting this well (.341 BA/.417 OBP) because he's in a hitters league really isn't true. Ok that's a good point, and I didn't know how well other hitters were doing there. I am just going to lower expectations on Jordan for me. He reminds me a lot of Jeremy Reed and Ryan Sweeney, and those guys have made the majors, but they're not going to be difference makers. Danks is going to have to develop power, if he wants to be a good starting OF player. Whether that happens or not, we'll have to wait and see.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) The White Sox ranked 23rd in shelling out bonus money for the 2008 draft. Not that I think its being cheap, I think most of these picks get way too much money, but it is the way the game is played. If you really want a nice system you have to put your money where your mouth is. Still if you compare who we drafted in 2008 compared to say 2006 with Beckham, Danks and Upchurch up against Kyle McCullough, money isn't exactly the end all to be all, if you can find and draft the right players.
  18. Well the Heat currently have Mark Blount and Haslem manning the C spot. If I was them, I'd probably hang onto Marion, and make a run at Boozer in the off-season. The Knicks would probably have to throw in at least a guy like Mardy Collins.
  19. Saw this on MLB.com about Marquez and Nunez;
  20. Here's a question. If the Knicks pulled off a Curry for Marion trade (with say another piece going to Miami), could the Knicks actually make the playoffs this season?
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Draftin talent falls on a lot of people, but look at the history of guys who have suceeded via the draft during Ken Williams reign. Case closed on that and this is coming from a guy that backed Kenny when practically everyone wanted him ousted (I'm a huge KDub fan). I think at least now they're taking steps to rectify that, and our draft haul this year was probably the best it's been for about 5 seasons at least. Still I'd like to get them more involved in Latin America.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) So he plays in Washington two or three years before forcing a trade to a team he really wanted to go to in the first place? All depends on if the Nationals can develop some good young pitching. If they signed Teixeira, they'd have a decent enough offensive lineup. Teixeira, Zimmerman, Willingham will offer quite a bit of pop, Milledge is still developing, and Guzman has been pretty good when healthy. Olson and Lannon (or Lennon I can't remember) offer a decent enough start to the rotation, it's the pitchers behind those 2 they need to find.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) We have a small sample size for him already. He had 10 games in Kanny and raked, he went to the AFL and raked, and if he ends up in AA this year and rakes then he could very well be in the running for 2010. 1 - He should be raking in low A ball. 2 - The AFL is a hitter's paradise, so it doesn't really shock me to see him doing so well there also. 3 - It's not easy to hit well at B-Ham in that park, and I'd at least like to see him hit well at Charlotte before I have any thought of giving him a starter's job.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) Because he has the talent, is already our #3 prospect, and is RAKING in the AFL. 2010's too early though IMHO. Danks will need to develop power, or have very good BA/OBP skills if he wants to become a starting OF in the majors.
  25. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Yep, he's the reason why the Cards have put Ankiel and Ludwick on the market. I wonder from their sake though, would Rasmus get you more in a deal, and it's not like Ankiel and Ludwick are slouches at the MLB level or anything (of course they could be nothing more than flash in the pans either).
