There'll be more to this surely. You don't give up on a guy for just 1 minor league player. And I don't really want Melky, he's regressed offensively. My guess is there's more young pitching to be included in the deal.

QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) decent venue. Saw Coldplay and Switchfoot (different concerts) there in 2000-2001. Unfortunately, you're on the other side of 76, so you'll need to catch a cab to South Street (restuarants, bars, shops, etc) Yeah I saw where it was on Google Maps, about 5 miles from the Uni and on the otherside of the river, so we'll have to taxi it back. Looking forward to visitin Philly though, pretty cool that's it's only a 2 hour bus ride from NY.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) I was actually pretty upset when Wing went to the OAK org last offseason. He showed every indication of coming back nicely, and was even stretching out to starting length outings with B-Ham in 2007 while putting up very nice numbers. And in 2008 with OAK's AAA team as a reliever, he put up a 2.33 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and about an 8 K/9. It would be awfully nice to have a lefty reliever like that in the wings with the Sox right now. Especially with what happened to Logan this season. A good lefty reliever should be one of KW's main targets this off-season. Someone like Dennys Reyes would fit the bill quite nicely, and take something away from a major rival of ours.

After seeing what Alexei did in 2008, nothing would suprise me with how Viciedo would do in 2009. I think it maybe best at least for the Sox to start him in AAA for the season, and give Fields the 3rd base job (if he was signed). And then if Fields is struggling, or Viciedo is absolutely raking in Charlotte, then you could make a move there. Long - term, I think he's going to be a DH in the AL though.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) I don't know about Sanchez. He's pretty damn good. If I had him I wouldn't deal him straight up for Dye. There was a ST game televised last year that was Danks against Sanchez and it looked like they were almost mirror images of each other. Danks is better, but Sanchez isn't all that far behind IMO. I think targeting Murphy all depends on whether or not the Sox sign Viciedo. If they do, then you figure Viciedo/Fields at 3B in '09 and beyond, Ramirez at SS in '09 and beyond, and Beckham at 2B in 2010 and beyond. If Viciedo doesn't sign then things change a lot because now you just have Fields as a question mark at 3B. Either Beckham or Alexei could play 3B, SS, or 2B so then that opens things up for a new addition. BTW, WTF are the Sox doing with all these stud or potential stud infielders? I thought they were supposed to hate that! And Brandon Allen could be ready for 2010 too depending how he does in Birmingham next year. Murphy could play anywhere from 2B/3B/LF/RF IMHO, depending on how he handles those infield positions defensively, and what the Sox do in other areas. He's exactly the type of young hitter I think KW should be targeting though. One that can hit around .300, good strike zone judgement, and enough pop to probably hit around 20-25HR's in his prime (especially at the Cell). Sanchez really tailed off in the 2nd half of last season IIRC. I'd still be interested possibly in him though, but I'd want a stud prospect from the Giants if I was going to give up Dye.

Looks like Ari Gold doesn't have to find him a role anytime soon after all.

QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) South Street is a good time. It's November, so it's miserable outside. Where are you seeing Kings of Leon? The Electric Factory on North 7th.

My never ending sightseeing tour of America takes me across to Philly this weekend (mainly to see the Kings of Leon on Saturday Night). I'm staying over at Penn, so if anyone has any recommendations about good bars in the university district, sightseeing things to do on the Sunday, and the best place to get a cheesesteak, that's be much appreciated.

Pelfrey had a decent season over here actually, and seemed to be finally living up to some of his potential. That sinker would work well at the Cell also. Not that the Mets would give him up. He's not arbitration eligible yet IIRC, so he's cheap, and Minaya wants pitching. I think he'd rather give up more highly rated prospects than Pelfrey at this point because that team pretty much HAS to make the playoffs next season, and they're not going to give up major league talent that'll hinder them from doing that.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) He did that against an NCAA team, so it's really not that impressive to me. OKC without Durant is probably the wrost team to take an NBA court. The only impressive part of that line should be the 10 blocks anyways. But yes OKC are terrible, and have a long, long way to go. It hasn't helped them when all of the bigs that they have drafted (Petro, Sene, Swift) have all turned out to be BUSTS.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) MJ Triple Double (3 rings 2x) >>>>>> Dwight Triple Double Stop living in the past.

Ok lets get away from Tampa Bay for a minute, considering there are 28 other teams in the MLB. What are some other teams that would be interested in JD? Philly - If they lose Burrell, although they may stick with Jenkins and Werth in the corners. I'd be looking for a package built around Carrasco, their stud pitching prospect, who's almost MLB ready. Mets - They're looking to upgrade in a corner OF spot. I'd look for a package built around Daniel Murphy, who could play 2B or 3B for us. Giants - They desperately want a big bat in the lineup. They'd probably offer Sanchez + something. That something would have to be a pretty damn good prospect, because they don't have a lot else that interests me at the MLB level. Dodgers - If they lose Manny, they'd want a big bat to replace him. They'd probably offer Pierre + something, but I'd be after Matt Kemp.
-
Triple double for Dwight last night. 30 points. 19 boards, 10 blocks. Yikes.
-
Gonna see Quantum of Solace on Friday also. Really am looking forward to it (will miss Eva Green though).
-
Jenks is going to cost Murphy and Martinez at least IMHO. All depends on what Minaya is willing to offer up here. There are another FA closer's on the market to replace Bobby out there, if they don't want to go with Thornton.

So Brian Burke is leaving Anaheim as their GM. The rumors mill is overblown that he's headed to Toronto, but I wonder if the Hawks would fire Tallon and appoint Burke in his place?
-
As long as he wants.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) Man I wish I could have watched. Did HBO do a 24/7 for this? Yeah I think they did. One of my buddies over here did production work for Setanta Sports as well, and ended up sitting right next to the ring next to Jeremy Piven. He's still buzzing.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) AH ok. Soeme day you will have to make it to one of the really big football tailgates like LSU, Ol Miss, Georgia, OSU, Texas, PSU, Wisco etc, they are truly out of control if you havent been to one before. Rutgers is good and all but its situated in probably one of the top 5 crappiest cities in America and isnt really what you'd call a football crazy university. I remember my first real big school tailgate experience and wondering how that many fans were able to purchase and customize large school buses. And im talking in the 100's. I am going to Philadelphia this weekend to see the Kings of Leon, and was kind of hoping to see a Penn State game, until I looked at where the campus actually was. So I am going to see Penn vs. Harvard instead. I am planning on trying to get back for the last Rutgers game of the season though (although you're right about the city). -
If Gonzalez is included, I think the Rockies have done pretty well here. They get a replacement for Fuentes, Smith gives them another decent young SP, and Gonzalez could explode in that environment.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) was that your first college football game? No I saw Yale play Columbia the week before, but that wasn't a very good standard nor a big crowd. So I guess Rutgers was my first "real" college football experience. -
My guess is Street + Smith plus another good prospect. Not a bad move by the A's I think. They've got enough good young players ATM, and they can either spin Holliday off at the deadline or get the 2 draft picks for him. His OPS will certainly come down away from Coors though.

Well I went to the Garden on Saturday Night to see these 2 legends in action. There were about 10,000 Brits who flew over to watch the fight, so the crowd was pro Calzaghe. Ended up being a great fight, and Jones really got busted open. Don't think anybody saw Calzaghe getting knocked down in the 1st happening though.

Well I'm officially a Rutgers Scarlett Knights fan now. Went on Saturday, and had a great tine, the atmosphere at the college games was just incredible. -
My guess is they'll put him on Smackdown and into a program with either Edge or Jeff Hardy. Wonder if they'll use him as a cocky heel or a face though. And hopefully he gets the push that he actually deserves this time.
