  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) Why? If he could get him cheaply, so Ramirez stays at 2B or moves to CF, and you have the Getz/Nix/Lillibridge battle for 2B. Greene had a terrible 2008, but his away splits in 05, 06 and 07 away from PETCO have been an OPS above .800 IIRC.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) We weren't? With the return of Quentin and a possible upgrade at CF or 2B, this team would be up there with anyone else in the division. And sacrificing seasons is not something that KW and Ozzie are fit to do. Not only that, but our fan base won't be too happy with the organization if they do go into rebuilding mode. I think the Sox can be seen to be "rebuilding on the fly" if they dealt JD and Bobby from here. Basically, the Sox have shed about $16M from 2 guys who didn't contribute much at the end of the season, and weren't seen as core guys. Whether we got enough value for them is another story, but we've sacrificed about $30M in payroll from also losing OC, Crede and Uribe, and I'm hoping we use at $10M of that to sign a 2B/CF thru a trade or FA, but I'm not holding my breath.
  3. Also, do you think KW could maybe try to go after Khalil Greene as well if he was chasing Peavy?
  4. Marquez after he learns a cutter in ST, and a FA or young SP acquired through a trade. Richard makes perfect sense as a swingman, and the Sox can use Poreda to replace Logan as the LOOGY out of the pen.
  5. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) This quote from SI Heyman There's really no need to trade JD now unless KW definitely comes out on top (or so at least he thinks) talent wise in a deal. We've shedded enough payroll, so there shouldn't be a need to dump anymore $$$ anytime soon. Still if KW could get a Carlos Carrasco or Wade Davis for JD, I'd think he'd pull the trigger, and try to sign a FA replacement on a short team deal.
  6. Wonder how Elisha Cuthbert is feeling right now? Would have LOVED to see Dion Phanuef beat the s*** out of him last night.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) A guy Kenny has wanted in the past is Abreu and the Yankees didnt offer arbitration. If KW could trade Dye for a good young starter with upside, and then sign Abreu to say a 2 year deal, I think he's done pretty well there. Certainly a scenario to consider.
  8. So what with the contracts that we've traded or letting go to FA, we're saving about $35M from the payroll here?
  9. KW could have done VERY well here. And with this move, we've saved about $15-$16M in salary from dumping Swisher and Vazquez. Even if our payroll goes down for 2009, we could have a LOT of payroll flexibility for 2010.
  10. Does Detroit suddenly have a chance come Sunday now? They'll have to stop Minny's running game, but this could be their best opportunity to get a W here.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:22 PM) People aren't writing Escobar for Peavy straight up out. What makes you think we could get him and a piching prospect for Javy? Well I think Javy still has value around the league despite what many on here think. Escobar wasn't the issue in a Peavy deal, not including Tommy Hanson or Peavy wanting a no trade clause was. Frank Wren has shown he'll be quite aggressive in the trade market, and isn't afraid to include prospects in deals. Maybe asking for Escobar is a bit optimistic, but his OPS was down from 2007, and maybe his value isn't as high as what it was, hence why would the Braves include him in a Peavy deal for instance? Maybe the Sox might be after Gregor Blanco instead to fill their leadoff / CF need? (.251.366/.309 splits in his season in the majors).
  12. False. I never have Chocolate with Peanut Butter. I do enjoy the Crunchy Peanut Butter though. The person below me is drinking a beer right now.
  13. Also I'd ask for a package of Yunel Escobar and Reyes for Vazquez here. Reyes apparently has major control issues, but some people still rate him highly. Escobar and Ramirez would be a nice up the middle combo, and you could still move Alexei to CF, if you acquired a 2B or SS.
  14. Hmmm, Lillibridge had a real subpar 2008 down in AAA FWIW, but some thought he may have been frustrated not being up in the majors full-time. Reyes had a 5.81 ERA in the majors in 2008. Frankly, I think we can do better, unless the 3rd prospect in the deal is someone like Jason Heyward, Jordan Schaefer or Brandon Jones. EDIT: I'm also gonna merge this with the other thread to keep everything in here, but I've changed the thread title to indicate the latest update.
  15. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) Ah. We were up in northern Vermont in Stowe. Near Burlington. I love Vermont. Yeah it is a nice place. I actually preferred Utah though (can't believe I just said that). Also, I'm writing a paper about "Managing Teams" ATM. Does anybody know of any good links or resources on the net for things such as how to become a better leader, how to evaluate team performance, and how the effectiveness of teams contributes to the well-being of an organization etc.?
  16. I wouldn't mind Abreu on a 2 year deal at all, if you could trade Dye for young pitching. All depends on the $$$ though, but the Sox have saved shed some payroll already this off-season.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) Honestly, I'd have no problem if he accepted. At a one year deal he'd be a bargain and the Sox could just opt to trade him and probably get as good of value as the two draft picks (the difference is, these guys would be a bit closer to the majors). Plus worse case you have an above average SS for another year. I wouldn't mind at all if Minny signed him actually, considering we've get their 1st round pick and a compensation pick. And considering what it'll take for them to sign him, they won't have many $$$$ to use elsewhere.
  18. False. I have been to one this year though and was a groomsman. The person below me bought a TV on Black Friday.
  19. I feel a lot more comfortable with Doug Laumann making our draft picks than Duane Shaffer at least (based on their histories, and what the Sox did last season in the draft).
  20. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) Where did you go in Vermont? I was up there over the weekend, but no, I don't snowboard. West Wardsboro up near Mount Snow.
  21. True. I honestly have no idea what that is. The person below me will be eating out for lunch today.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) The best? The Lakers haven't even lost a road game yet, although they have had a heavy dose of home games. Well the Celtics put us in our place tonight, so I can't really argue that anymore.
