QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Ah, so you're the reason our economy took a nosedive. Went back home for a wedding in October, and of course the Groom's father says in his speech that I "f##ked up the economy.

Ahhhh... A Snow Day
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) The subways should be fine depending on where you want/need to go Yeah hopefully that's the case. It's just started snowing sideways down here FWIW. They were predictiing it would come at 1PM, not 10:30 according to my boss, so could be quite a lot of accumulation today.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Explain several things to me, since I notice you're living in America and had not been notified. I have never heard this discussion if it happened, which I'm sure it did but I ignored since it was probably in a thread with a boring title; and everyone knows I only respond to threads with catchy slogans or puns. Two questions: 1. Why are you in the US? 2. Why of all places are you in Newport NJ? It just seems like an extremely random place for someone halfway across the world to travel to. 1. Working in the finance industry on a 12 motnh visa. I get kicked out of the country in mid May. 2. It's part of a program, I get free accomodation in Newport. Albeit, I wouldn't recommend ANYONE live there, it's quite depressing, but at elast it's only a 10 min train ride into Manhattan.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) Sundin to the Canucks, 2 years, $20 million. F*** that, I'm glad we didn't sign him. That team with Luongo in net, just got a whole lot more dangerous though. I agree it's too much money, but they needed scoring, and Sundin should be able to provide it.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 01:55 AM) Eh, that sort of thinking is no fun. I just remember how badly I wanted Roy and how much I hated Tyrus. I just knew Brandon was going to be a stud. Wonder how Kevin McHale feels about that Roy for Foye trade right now. Oops. Magic beat the Spurs quite easily last night, although the Spurs were playing a back to back game on a brutal schedule. Still, always nice to beat a contender.

Winter Meetings Chit-Chat
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) Thats the thing. KW is waiting for the fallout to hopefully add some players and possibly trade a little bit. The economy is hurting alot of companies right now, and many are just now in budget planning for next year. Baseball is the same way, the free agent market hasnt even begun to shake out. Why do you think its taking so long for these uber talented players to come off the board? They're all waiting for Teixeira to sign, and then the dominoes will fall from there. Unfrotunately with Bora$$ as his agent, that could be quite a while from now.

White Sox named as a possibility for Garland
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) He gave up 23 homeruns last season in a pitcher's park and failed to throw 200 innings. There's also that knot in his shoulder. 2 more red flags for Garland; AWAY - 5.94 ERA, .332 BAA Post ASB - 5.99 ERA, .322 BAA

Winter Meetings Chit-Chat
In Robo-thal's latest piece, he has Orlando Hudson ending up with the White Sox. Bobby Abreu with the A's also FWIW.

If you could get him on a 1 year deal, I would be interested in doing that. I think Marquez would be best served starting the season out in AAA, and going the Gavin Floyd route back up to Chicago. Poreda and Richard would battle for the 5th starters job, and if either fails, you've got Marquez and hopefully a healthy Contreras waiting in the wings. Garland could have an ERA around the high 4's, but he'd also eat 180 innings for you at least, which is something this rotation probably needs.

Those winter colds are coming back to fruition, seems like almost everyone on my floor is either coughing or sneezing. Still when I saw it was 26 in Chicago today, wasn't exactly complaining about the weather over here today.

Elton Brand out for a month with a dislocated shoulder. Just keeps getting better for the 76ers. Still LOL'ing at those experts who picked them to finish higher than the Magic this season.

Cabrera probably WON'T go to the Dodgers
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) Its weird in a market where Kyle Farnsworth can get get $4.6 million a year for 2 years, Cabrera may wind up with far less of a guarantee. For all his faults, the guy still is a pretty good player. Still that team that gave Farnsworth that 2 year deal, could end up with OC when it's all said and done possibly.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) Considering his inconsistent nature and the fact that they still lost to an awful team last night I have a hard time buying that. I think long - term, the Bulls either need to trade him, or start him at the 4, and have a center who can actually play in the low post. Drew Gooden's not going to get the job done there.

I think TT is the type of player who can take the Bulls to the next level, and with his play over the past couple of games, I think Del Negro has realized that now, even with their issues so far.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) I sure hope no one signs Peter Forsberg during yet another comeback. What a joke, he wants to sign with a team "right before the playoffs"... the NHL needs a rule like MLB has in regards to playoff rosters. No doubt the Hawks will be linked with him after missing out on Sundin. EDIT: And Quenneville's coached him before back in Colorado I would assume.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) I couldnt disagree more, but time will tell. I think Danks has that rare "big game" pitchers mentality that Gavin just doesnt have. Well Gavin pitched superbly in that 1 game against either Detroit or Minnesota at the end of the season (can't remember which team it was), but still it's an extremely small smaple size obviously.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) I'd take Varejao right now, but poor man's varejao is uuuugly. I still think if the Bulls could trade for Brad Miller, they would probably make the playoffs. I wonder if the Kings would be interested in Noah at all?

Yep, pretty much the perfect scenario we could have hoped for really. WOnder if they'll have to use Pierre as their leadoff hitter going forward if they sign OC, or whether they give that job to OC.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) So Showtime and I were at the game Sunday, and were talking about what Tallon could do. A name that we both brought up that hasn't really been mentioned is Modano. -Dallas is TERRIBLE this season, and it doesn't look they are going to be able to put it together in a tough Western Conference. -Modano is signed for this year and next. Certainly not a contract killer. -I'm a little shady on how is contract is structured. He has a cap hit of 3.45 this season, but is only making "2.25" in salary. A deal I wouldn't be opposed to is Modano for Byfuglien and maybe a mid round pick. The cap hits actually might work, as Buff is pulling down 3 million, and is still only 23(something Dallas could have an interest in. I'm not a huge Modano guy, but I think he would fill the 2nd line center role nicely, and bring that veteran presence this team really needs. Sharp-Toews-Kane Versteeg-Modano-Havlat Ladd-Bolland-Brouwer Eager-Fraser-Burish I would like to have Modano for that deal you've mentioned also, but I can't see the Stars' trading him. They need all of the good publicity they can get ATM. And they can't really trade the face of the franchise for the past 10 seasons IMO. I think someone like Doug Weight from the Islanders (28 points in 31 games this season), is probably more likely.

Noah was basically going to be a poor man's Anderson Varejao, and nothing has changed there it seems.

AAP: Nevin Griffith
That's very disappointing for Nevin. I remember most around here were very happy for us to pick him up in the draft.
