If I was Andy MacPhail, why would you even bother being a GM with Baltimore. Any attempts you make to rebuild are going to be futile, because Angelos is not going allow for his "favorite" players to be dealt. It's a wonder they were actually able to dump Tejada for a decent package (well that and because Ed Wade is not a very bright GM). Could the O's do better? Possibly. If I was going to trade Bedard to them, I'd ask for either Clement or Balentian as that other prospect along with Jones. I guess Seattle fans are just anxious to not give up on Jones either because; A - They have a gaping hole at RF now that Jose Guillen has moved on. B - He's their best young prospect, and they probably love him as we once loved Chris Young (and look at the player he's become). C - Their offense is pretty bad. If Jones goes, they'll need to scramble to find a RF.

Ok so who's the favorite in the polls to win in Florida b/w Romney and McCain? I was reading a little yesterday about Romney campaigning about his record with the economy compared to McCain's "Commander in Chief" stance. He needed to be more honest after the debacle in Iowa.

Who's going to give Colon a guaranteed $8M though? Kansas City maybe? I don't know if anyone else would touch him at that price. The Mets I think are leaning towards signing Livan Hernandez also.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 08:33 AM) feliz signed with philly...so for sure hes not going back to SF It takes another team out of the mix for Crede though. Looks like it's SF or nothing. I'd say Sanchez or Lowry for Joe is probably the most likely option. KW may lean towards Sanchez because he's thrown out of the bullpen before.

Danks, Swisher, Fields would be the main 3. You'd get a nice load of prospects for them. Probably one of Buehrle / Vazquez as well. then you can add your Konerko's etc.
-
Sounds as if, and this is just for an outsider's point of view because I've never been before, is that SoxFest is going worse from year to year in terms of organization etc. I would have liked someone to have asked KW about our international scouting and the new academy in the Domincan Republic though, get some more insight on that.

Aardsma Traded to Red Sox for 2 Minor Leaguers
DBAHO replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah the Cotts for Aardsma trade really didn't pay off did it. For the 1st month and a half or so, Aardsma was our best reliever. And he was used frequently. After that, it just really fell apart. It's a shame because the guy obviously has a good arm, but this is what his 4th team or in about the last 3 seasons. Don't know if he's ever going to live up to his talent level. -
Vote Obama, the man goes for West Ham;
-
Rumored WM24 matches;
-
Well let's hope this at least gives Obama some momentum heading into Super Tuesday. A lot can happen b/w now and then, and with Bill starting to become a bit of liability, I wouldn't count Obama out just yet, although Hilary is still probably the favorite.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) Dabby was right about a week ago. If DT is infact making a move to reach the playoffs this season, he should be looking at a forward. This team can't score a lick. Toews coming back will obviously help. But they still need 1 top 2 line winger. Havlat and Kane can't do it all by themselves. Sharp is pretty good, but they still need 1 more guy IMHO. The rest (including now Ruutu which is quite sad) are basically 3rd/4th line scrappers ATM.

If you acquired Malik, and with Wisniewski back, would that mean Barker could be sent back down (I hope he's not part of the deal obviously). Seabrook - Keith Malik - Sopel Buff - Wisniewski

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) I'm just as offended with the Danks/Floyd stuff. So Gavin Floyd with no options left = Danks? Obviously not. But I think the way Floyd finished off 2007 compared to Danks is still fresh in people's minds when comparing the 2.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) Brian Sabean is dumb but he's not that dumb. You put Danks in San Francisco next season, and he could easily post something around a 4.00 ERA IMHO, if you look at his past stats (doing much better at the same level the 2nd time around), moving into an extreme pitchers park and into the National League. We'd probably have to throw in something else perhaps (Shelby?), but something around a Crede/Danks deal I think could certainly be feasible. Linecum has the higher upside obviously, but he's also more of an injury risk than Danks. San Francisco needs a third baseman desperately. They need to keep winning to keep attendance above 3M without Bonds to help pay off the debt for the ballpark. They can't really afford to finish 5th in the NL West again. The only other real option out there possibly for a third baseman could be Eric Chavez, but Oakland probably won't want to deal with a local rival, and Chavez has a hefty contract.
-
I'd say the Giants are more likely to deal Linecum than Cain at this point. Would anyone do Danks / Crede for Linecum for example? But I think with Schueler pushing for Crede, something is likely to happen here. I'd imagine Rowand would be pushing pretty hard for Joe as well. The Giants could be the White Sox of the NL soon. If you wanted Cain, I'd say we'd have to deal Paul Konerko possibly (can't remember who started for the Giants at 1B this season).

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 05:28 AM) And in 2004, McCain was saying that it was a mistake to extend the tax cuts that he refused to vote for and now supports. And McCain was for all those campaign finance provisions until he was running for office and needed to ignore them. And McCain was strongly opposed to the influence that Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson had on the party until he needed that wing of the party's support and was off giving the commencement address at liberty university and praising those folks. And McCain is giving you straight talk about how those jobs aren't coming back to Michigan, the day before he promises to help bring jobs back to Michigan. The remarkable thing is not that he's changed positions all over, I'm sure you could come up with a list like that for every politician. The remarkable thing is that the media narrative of him being a straight talker has become so ingrained that even when he flip-flops from one day to another, he doesn't get called on it, while the media doesn't like Romney so he gets called on every one. The only thing McCain hasn't had his core beliefs change on is the use of the military, which, while consistent, are pretty much as silly as GW's. Personally, I'd look at Romney's record as governor and the job he did rescuing the Salt Lake City Olympics from huge financial losses. I think he's got excellent credibility as an economic manager, and with the current state of the American Economy, that's pretty important. Unfortunately because he's a Mormon and he's getting attacked in the media for flip - flopping (even though you make a good argument for McCain doing the same thing), it's going to be hard for him to beat McCain IMHO. McCain's a lot more the "conservative" candidate.

Perhaps scouting in terms of a Khabibulin deal? Tampa would be the only team I could see us making a deal with for him at this point.
-
I think Swisher had a decent RZR in CF in 2007, in fact I think it was better than Rowand's in 2005 IIRC. So I'd at least give him a chance there in CF to start off the season, and he'll have less ground to cover in CF at the Cell than he would have in Oakland.
-
Why does it make sense then for KW to; 1 - Give up his 3 best prospects for Swisher. 2 - Give up his best position prospect for Quentin. And not have both in the lineup? Seems like if that was the case, (the 2nd most likely obviously), then what was the point in making that deal. Couldn't KW have just traded for Crisp instead of Swisher if he wanted a good defensive leadoff center fielder?
-
QUOTE(bear_brian @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) Some time ago there was a rumor that the Sox and Boston had a deal worked out for Coco Crisp in the event that the Red Sox did not land Santana. As I recall it was to involve John Shelby and one other minor leaguer. Don't know how true the rumor was or is. Seems to me that Crisp would resolve two of the biggest remaining issues this team has - excellent defense in center field coupled with an experienced lead-off man. I am not saying I am wild about Coco, but he is an outstanding defensive centerfielder. Acquiring him would allow us to move Dye to left, put Swisher in right, siginficantly upgrade our overall outfield defense. Crisp is not a great lead-off hitter, but he switch hits, walks a little and can certainly steal bases. He is a lifetime .280 hitter. Thoughts? That would mean you would have Quentin and Owens on the bench and I cannot see that scenario happening. Quentin will start in LF and put up an .800 OPS IMHO. That'll surprise a few people but he's certainly capable of it. And what would we give up to Boston for Crisp? It's not like we have much left in our farm system.
-
Also I think the Sox could still look into a Kotchman / Santana deal for Paulie possibly. Don't know if they'd target Kendrick, Figgins etc. if they couldn't bring in a replacement first baseman (unless you then got Fields to play 1B). That will fill out the backend of the rotation, saves payroll, and we get younger (albeit we lose some power in the middle of the order).

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) Do we know that Ramirez is ready for the major leagues? I don't think having Uribe on the bench would be that bad of a thing. He can play 3 infield positions, and Richar is still a question mark. I'd say probably not. Starting the year off in AAA would probably be a good thing for him. But we've got Ozuna who can play a little 2B/3B. I'd still try to trade Uribe, and get a cheaper backup on the bench. I guess I'm just sick of Juan on this team. He certainly isn't worth 4.5M a season (take him out of the Cell imagine what his OPS would be like then with the decrease in power). For example, I would have liked the idea of trading him to say the O's for a prospect, and then signing Jason Jennings with the money we've saved. But he's with Texas now.
