FutureSox Top 25: 15-11
QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 18, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) There's some actual talent in this release. Well you'd hope so with the likes of Carter on there. Starting to see more of that pitching depth as we move up the scale though.

5/16 Games
QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 18, 2007 -> 07:27 AM) No it was just you. Well I screwed Matt Nachreiner's career up by calling him my sleeper. Hopefuly he does't meet me in a dark alley one day...............

5/16 Games
IIRC, there was a time a couple of seasons ago where people really like Schnurstein, and thought he could become something, think the 2004 version of Soxtalk's Aaron Cunningham. Obviously he hasn't come on since then, but he needs to get back up to B-Ham ASAP and show this kind of stroke up there if he wants to have any hope of a future with this organization.

Yankees or Cubs?
Yankees. Sorry but I despise the "Evil Empire" more than anyone in baseball.

There's a question mark in front of Jerry. It's been Gaged. Wait, I see a lot of question marks for Jerry. Well I guess he is a questionable type of player.

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
Amare was checking in though, so he MAY be saved. Diaw's in trouble though. And frankly that's BS. You've got to be able to fly the flag and stand up for your superstar in that type of a situation. And it's sad to see a team like the Spurs that has been so good for so long, resort to these type of tactics when things aren't going their way. Robert Horry the ultimate good guy trying to take Steve Nash out. Bruce Bowen is a dirty player, and I really hope Phoenix takes that series.

Anyone hear
Lucky J.P Riccardi isn't our GM. Otherwise he'd say Iguchi had a hernia injury or something.

If we were to upgrade the offense
QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ May 15, 2007 -> 01:15 AM) Callaspo is not travelling with the team now because he is in trouble with the law right now and they may be ready to get whatever they can for him. DeJesus is good, but they need to fit in Costa, Butler, and Teahen in the outfield, and by the time their young players are ready DeJesus will walk in free agency. Don't think Callaspo would fit into the "character" mould of players KW likes right at this moment. Realistically the only way our offense will be upgraded is if players like Dye and Konerko etc. begin to heat up. And that's because of the climate of the trade market where it's much harder to make a deal than it was a few season ago.

Official Save Sweeney and Boot Terrero thread
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 15, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Podsednik isn't even allowed to run right now, he really shouldn't be entering into any equation at this point. Hell I think most of us know that even if healthy, Sweeney has shown he's probably an upgrade on Pods right now. I don't want to see Pods back until around just before the ASB frankly, at least after some rehab starts etc. where he actually proves his legs are fine and he can steal some bases.

2nd Baseman Options 2008
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 15, 2007 -> 09:07 AM) Burke would be nice, but even he's no guarantee. He'd be an upgrade defensively and you can probably get by with him for a year or two, but I can't see him doing that much better than his line of last year (.276/.347/.418). He seems logical to go after, though -- he'd improve the Sox' bench this season and would give the Sox a reasonably decent 2B option for next year if something better doesn't present itself. I agree on acquiring Burke if the chance's there. I mean he makes sense to me right now over having a Rob Mackowiak or Alex Cintron on the bench. Burke can play 2B and any OF spot, and Ozuna's been used a few times at SS IIRC. Burke's OBP is pretty solid, and I think he's got more room to grow in the future, hence why I think he'd be a good investment, instead of acquiring an older player like Castillo. Of course this is if we decide to leave Iguchi leave, which at this stage looks to be the case unless he can turn things around (which I think he still will). Depends on what the Astros asking price is though. Anyone dreaming of a Lidge + Burke deal here?

Carter's hitting .331 now with 7 HR's. If he keeps that pace up, could we see him at Winston - Salem before the end of the season? Oh and GIO SUCKS.

QUOTE(Shadows @ May 15, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) So basically theres no way The Great Khali beats John Cena at Judgement Day What a load of crap, I am so sick of John Cena.. I wish he would lose, but theres no way he will after making Khali seem unbeatable and then beating down Cena in these segments without any effort.. I cant see anyway he wins at Judgement Day, hell get an FU I can almost see it already It's the "David vs. Goliath" Story!!!!! If only Cena would get one of those injuries which would put him out of action for a long time.

Juan Uribe
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2007 -> 01:16 PM) His option will be picked up regardless. He adds an assload of value to a team thats built on pitching (especially with the Sox having a lot of ground ball pitchers). Plus you have the organizations lack of middle infield talent and the fact that they will already be looking for a replacement for Iguchi. I know a lot of people here love Chris Burke, but why would the Sox be super interested in having a guy that can't cut it with a weak offensive team like the Astros (I think Burke is a very good defensive player and I don't mind his long term prognosis as a prospect, but by all means I don't necessarily consider him a sure fire answer for the 2 hole). However I know I've cursed and thought Iguchi was done at other points of his brief career (because he can have such an ugly, long, slow swing but somehow has found a way to get by). Well I think you look at the situation Chris Burke's been put in. There was no way he was going to start at 2nd base over Craig Biggio, so long as Biggio is healthy. And really his numbers aren't all that bad. He's got a fairly solid OBP around the .340-.350 mark, and he offers you some good versatility and is a good defensive player like you've said. My thinking is, if you could acquire him on the cheap e.g give up a Phillips plus a prospect who's not one of our real core guys, that's something I would seriously look at.

Juan Uribe
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) He's better than Iguchi who just looks horrid right now. I'm sort of wondering about Iguchi's long - term future here at the moment. I saw that Chris Burke got demoted to AAA, and he would be someone who could be an ideal #2 hitter for us in the years to come if we could acquire him on the cheap. I want to sign Ichiro in the off-season though, and for that to happen our chances would increase if the Gooch stayed around here as well. So it's something KW's gotta weigh up here. Of course it's too early to make decisions about players etc. based on this season.

Juan Uribe
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 13, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) It's not his contract year! Oops. Well he does have a $5M team option for 2008. So I mean it is "sort" of a contract year for him in terms of his future here, because if he put up an offensive season similar to last season, it would be hard to justify picking up that $5M option.

Juan Uribe
We all remember the Juan Uribe in 2004, in that 1st half of the season when he flew out of the blocks and was really a very good #2 hitter for us. This season he sort of reminds me of that type of hitter. He should be motivated since it's a contract year, and he's already taken 9 walks in 27 games this season when he ONLY had 13 all of last season. My question is, with the likes of Iguchi etc. not really grabbing a hold on that #2 spot and our offense struggling, if Uribe can keep hitting around the .260-.270 mark with some power, is he going to be able to stay in that spot? Or will his subpar OBP push him back down the lineup? I'd lean towards the latter scenario happening but with our offense the way it is, it wouldn't suprise me to see Uribe stick there for a while.

So the fans were whining about this in the offseason?
QUOTE(fathom @ May 10, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) And like you mentioned, we never really used the savings from getting rid of Garcia in terms of bringing in free agent/trade talent money wise. Well considering the money players were getting in Free Agency in the off-season, and the raises for Sox players that had to be accounted for, I don't really find that suprising. Especially considering the Sox have 3 key free agents to re-sign in theis upcoming off-season, if they had to save a little payroll this season to give themselves a better chance of re-signing those guys in this off-season (depending if we're competitive this season), I don't mind that at all. To me KW sort of backtracked and changed his mode of thinking here. He "originally" thought that he wasn't going to trade Garcia unless he got someone that would help in 2007. However, once he saw how much free agents were getting, and the cost it would take to trade Garcia for someone who can help in 2007, he decided to get some much needed young pitching. Now yes Floyd you can argue hasn't been a good pickup so far, but there's still plenty of time for him, he's had some decent starts down at Charlotte nonetheless. But Gio is looking like a good pickup so far you have to admit.

Nice to see Gio get back on track. Carter just keeps on hitting as well, which is good news.

In two more days, fire sale talk will pick up
Baker's done with the Twinkies. Has the same relationship with Gardenhire that B-Mac had with Ozzie. And things will get worse for Minnesota when Santana leaves. It's not a given that Liriano is going to be the same when he comes back from his surgery as well.

Couch rips the White Sox for "staying put"
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 8, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) .900. As in OPS. But 90 works too, so that's fine. And that's why KW didn't trade Dye, because it's very likely he's going to be really productive this year. It's also why he hasn't signed him to an extension. I mean, honestly, name me one logical replacement for Dye's production. And Dye's a fairly notorious slow starter who really heats up along with the weather around the June mark. That alone is a good reason to think the Sox if they can hang with the pack at the end of this month in the Central, could get themselves on a little run if they continue to pitch the way they have ebcause the bats should definitely get better in the warmer weather.
