Nice to see Eggy pitching well again, and some power from Sweeney, which is what he needs to show for the remainder of the season.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 26, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) Homer Bailey is as untouable as you can get. Didn't the Reds have the last Homer, no not Hawk Harrelson, Homer Bush. It would take to get Bailey the same as it would to get Crawford. Actually I think it would probably cost more to get Bailey than Crawford. He'll be a stud power pitcher, and he should be the Reds main "untouchable" player right now. I was being sarcastic when I suggested him (or just pipedreaming).

Homer Bailey please. You know Krivsky loves his defensive players and lots and lots of pitching. Joe Crede would actually be an interesting name to consider here. Edwin Encarnacion has been down in AAA for a while, and they wouldn't have to use Freel at 3rd base for cover. So I could see them having an interest in Joe if he was made available for trade. Griffey's obviously the major candidate when you're looking at the Reds roster. I wonder if they'd also think about Todd Coffey as well, considering he just got demoted to AAA because they've overworked him so much (great bullpen management by Jerry Narron here).

At least we don't have to hear Flash ask "Where's our Liriano?" anymore now.

Looks like Brian Hill finally got canned. Billy Donovan to leave Florida to coach the Magic? If not, I think Otis Smith would want Sam Vincent, but he's likely to go to Charlotte. Stan Van Gundy could have been another possibility but he's likely to end up at Indiana. Unless we get Donovan, I think we waited too long to make a coaching change and it's going to cost us. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) Whoa....Portland would be nuts to move down just for an additional first rounder. Maybe if they got a couple young athletes in return plus the first rounder but god it would be horrificly dumb to give up Oden for an extra first round pick the following year (not when Oden is the best center to come up in years). Well they can't get the 1st round pick in next year's draft because that's going to Phoenix. But say for example, they offer the 2009 1st rounder, the #3 pick and Josh Childress. Portland could draft Yi Jianlian, and he could be the next Dirk. Or it could be another Chris Webber - Penny Hardaway scenario where Portland would get multiple 1st round selections. Personally I think Oden's a bit overrated just because he's one of the better bigs to come along lately, because it's so hard to find a capable big man. Hell Andrew Bogut went #1, and Deron Williams and Chris Paul look like much better selection right now. Oden will be very good on the boards and defensively, but is he going to score enough to be a "superstar"? I also heard a rumor that Portland would acquire the #6 pick from the Brewers and give up Jarrett Jack and Zach Randolph, to select Mike Conley. Of course this would depend upon Atlanta not picking Conley at #3. Also there are rumors of Orlando making Rashard Lewis their #1 target, NOT Vince Carter. Best case scenario, we re-sign Darko, and use Hedo Turkolgu in a sign and trade deal to clear up cap space to trade for Lewis, and also re-sign Dwight to that 5 years $80M deal. The Chicago papers have been mooting Nocioni for Darko, but there's no way I can see that happening from our end. -
Looks like you picked a good one in De Los Santos Dan.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 23, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) I don't see anyway Portland trades down. If they do they are f***tards. I mean for the Hawks to trade up 2 spots, are they going to have to give up more than a future 1st? It also depends whether or not Portland thinks they can get by with Aldridge playing at center for the next decade, instead of Oden. Of course they could just select Oden, move Aldridge to the #4, and trade Randolph for anything. Of they could think Durant moves into the SF spot, Randolph stays at PF and Aldridge is the center. A lot of scenarios here. In all of this, I'm not saying Portland SHOULD trade down a couple of spots, and they've had a bad record of doing it before when they traded out of Deron Williams' spot to pick up Martell Webster, but if Kevin Pritchard can pick up a lot of assets, then that's something he may look at. But if I'm Atlanta, I do anything I can to try and get Oden and Conley in this draft. Getting those 2 would turn the Hawks into a playoff contender for next season. -

Atlanta should feel extremely lucky. Because their pick finished in the top 3, they get to keep it. Phoenix would be steaming right now. And really for the Hawks, it's a perfect oppurtunity to get the Oden / Conley jr. combo. They have the 11th pick as well. They can trade up from #3 to #1 to get Oden, and then pick Conley at #11. They do that, they've got quite a good young developing lineup in Oden, Josh Smith, Williams (the #2 pick from a few years back, think that's his name), Joe Johnson and Conley, with Speedy Claxton, Josh Childress, Zaza Pachulia and Shelden Williams. Of course that's if Portland decided they wanted to trade down. For say a 2009 1st rounder, I'd say they'd probably do it, and settle with Yi Jianlian, Brandon Wright or Al Horford. Boston will probably trade their pick for a veteran. What Memphis are going to do I don't know. Maybe trade Gasol, and get even more picks, and keep developing that youth of theirs. -
I have had water stuck in my ear for what seems to be 12 hours now. I hate that.

Danks gets some love from Baseball America

Would be interesting to see the impact on the voting if Danks pitched in Boston and Dice K pitched for us now wouldn't it, if they similar numbers towards the end of the season. -
Well this is going to be fun to listen to when I get home.

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ May 22, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) Anderson injured his shoulder, not sure which one, how serious, etc. No further details right now. Damn that's a shame. Hopefully it's nothing serious, because he was starting to build up a little momentum.
-
Well thank god Ersty came through.

Someone mentioned Craig Wilson earlier in this thread, that's where I'm leaning, besides Printz. Yes he didn't have a good start for Atlanta, hence why they released, but he can play 1B/OF and be an emergency catcher if needed, and he can pretty well against lefties which has always been a weakness for this team. It could also make someone like Mackowiak expendable for the right offer e.g a lefty reliever, which is quite ironic since Mackowiak was originally traded for Marte.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 21, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) Not a sox player.... but it's minor leagues so... Matt Kemp continues his douchery He's turning into the 2nd coming of Elijah Dukes, which is a shame because he has a LOT of talent.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 20, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) Pierre was the other main guy under consideration as well...so everyone's arguing they wouldn't have signed any of the three names that keep getting mentioned, but they would have found a "mystery" candidate like Trot Nixon or Preston Wilson instead that would have been a better move. The stats don't completely lie. We're 50+ games over .500 with Pods in the line-up since the beginning of the 2005 season, and now exactly one game under .500 when he's out of the line-up. That should tell you something. I'm sure our winning percentage is even higher when he either scores a run or steals a base. Well Pierre with his .307 OBP hasn't shown himself to be worthy of his contract, while Wilson has a .577 OPS. Nixon's done a bit better a .748 OPS, but that number has been decreasing over the past few seasons. I think another issue is here, everyone assumed the Sox had to get a leadoff hitter to replace Pods. Now we've seen Erstad is getting that role, so we could have tried to get a middle of the order type of hitter. How about this for an option; Good power numbers, and you could stick him in a corner OF spot. Could be a long - term replacement for Dye as well.
-
My thoughts on each member; Jenks - Not much to worry about with Bobby, which is saying something considering his past couple of Spring Training's. MacDougal - Something tells me he's carrying an injury. 10 BB's in 15 IP's, .283 BAA compared to a .213 mark for the Sox last season. Probably been the major disappointment so far. Put him on the 15 day DL if there is something wrong with him, and call up Dewon Day for a little while. Thornton - You know Thornton's got great stuff, and yes we did win that trade with Seattle. However I think Matt's always gotten away with some things as his numbers show he isn't a "very good" setup man. His BAA is up by .041, but at least recently he's gotten into a groove with 0 ER in his past 4.1 IP pitched. We need him to keep that momentum up. Aardsma - 1 bad game has putten his ERA up by 2. Considering it was against his former team who would know his stuff, I'm not majorly concerned. It'll take a while at least for the AL still to work him out. Should take over for MacDougal as the primary 8th inning guy with Thornton. Sisco - Should not be up in the bullpen. I have said this from the moment we acquired him, he should be sent down to Charlotte and starting. Long - term that's where his future lies. Logan - Shown glimpses, and I'd rather have him up instead of Sisco. I think KW should have done a better job in the off-seeason of getting 1 more veteran lefty reliever. Hideki Okajima would have been perfect, look how good he has been and we've had success with Japanese players here before. That's something I think would have improved the pen just a little bit more.

Was it too much to expect out of Pods to stay healthy and produce? Yeah probably. But beck72 came up with an excellent point. Would you rather had signed Dave Roberts on the DL himself with a .216/.283/.317 stat-line or Gary Matthews Jr. for $10M a season instead? KW pretty much had 2 choices this off-season. To trade B-Mac or Garcia for a starting OF to replace Pods, or to get some young pitching. He made his choice, and some of that has paid off if you look at how Danks has produced. I think KW was in a "can't win" situation because if he trades say Garcia for Rowand and Fabio Castro, people say we've not getting a good enough return to improve our young pitching.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) I don't know if the Sox are just being careful as he's still working on something or what because the guy should be moved up and he's got a chance to really quickly become a known prospect in the baseball world (not just the Sox world). God can he hit the ball FAR. I don't know if they possibly think if they move him up to high A ball now, he'll struggle like he has done previously when he moved up from rookie ball to Kanny. I think he's definitely shown he's worthy of the move up though. Hopefully it happens sooner rather than later, because Carter is one prospect that really has that huge power potential.

F.A Cup b/w Man United and Chelski kicks off in 1 hour. I think it'll be headed to extra time and then penalties, again.
