QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) I wish Steve Phillips were still GM'ing. He loves ugly ass contracts. Maybe the Yankees, with their rotation as ugly as it's ever been, could think they'd be able to find life in Duque. It's happened before. Yeah I could see the Yanks being interested in bringing him back, or even someone like the Dodgers who were interested in him in the last off-season.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Well, if that was really the reason he wouldn't come to the Sox, I'd put Pods in the 9th hole faster than you could say Ditka. There's going to be a big financial battle for Furcal this offseason, with him being the top choice for many teams, including the big spending Cubs. I think the chances of the Sox getting Furcal are....remote. Yeah but the Sox aren't going to do that with Pods after what he's done this year. The Cubs are a perfect fit for him, and they're gonna likely offer him more money than us.

Detroit to hold the Bears under 100 yards rushing, and Detroit to win 17-10.

QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) I totally like what u said bout signing Mueller but wouldn't u first try to sign Furcal and move Uribe to third. Im not really sure what u think but Ozzie has already said he would like to add more speed to this team for next year and Furcal has both speed and power. Furcal's probably headed to the Cubs this off-season. He'll want to lead-off which isn't possible while Scotty's around.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) I agree completely. Today we're facing a pitcher we haven't seen which means total shutdown for the offense. See you're just giving up right there, not looking at the fact that we have our BEST pitcher on the mound for the 2nd half of the season. And FWIW, Kyle Lohse has a 4.79 ERA at home, with hitters hitting .304 of him. Yep we're doomed.

Hawks beat Calgary 5-4 in their 1st exhibition game, Rene Bourque with 2 goals and 3 points, great start for him; -
Midnight Madness is a month away, BUT...

I'm liking UConn on that list if things play out well for them. -
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) How much will the Phillies eat on the contract? that's the question when it concerns whether or not he come sto the Twins or the Sox or anywhere at all IIRC, I've heard up to half of the deal, so in essence the team who gets him would only have to pay about $7 or 8M.

Don't get shelled early, and don't give up the big inning. If he does this, I think he can well today. Let's hope we can give him as much run support as he got from us earlier in the season.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) Maybe if Howard hadn't come up and mashed they'd think about it. Best case now is Garland for Howard and I'd probably not do that. Howard is arguably the 05 Rookie of the Year and may have forced Jim thome out of Philly. And I can definitely see Thome being moved as well. I posted about him as a DH option about a month ago, with a fairly lukewarm response. But if his back held up, plus he wouldn't have to field, with Philly paying half of his salary, it's certainly quite an appealing option. I've got a sinking feeling, Terry Ryan is going to make a move there with him though.

QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 02:01 AM) I dont see how Overbay has proven himself. He has played 2 complete seasons (including this one), and his numbers fell off alot compared to last years. Overbay isnt that good a player, and his ~70 RBI's wont get the job done at first base for the Sox. The fact that even in his career year (2004) he didnt break the 90 RBI mark is scary. Which is why I've said Chad Tracy is a better option all along. He's younger, can play more positions, and pretty much has the same stats as Lyle in only is 2nd full season in the majors.

It's an opinion piece nonetheless, but I thought it was definitely still worth posting. If you could trade Jose Contreras for Ryan Howard, would you do it? Hell yeah, in a second I would;

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) I could most definately see it. He's also a Boras 3Bman. So is Beltre. I'd atleast hang onto Crede and get our full 6 years out of him. The thing is, you could sign Bill Mueller for 2 years and that should be enough time for Josh Fields to sort out the issues in his game down at B-Ham. But would the Sox rather get another 3 years out of Crede, just one of the many questions for this off-season.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) I can't argue with you. You may be 100% correct. Still, I have a feeling that Crede can be a good one. I can't even put my finger on why I feel that way. He's had 2 really bad months and 3 pretty good months this season IIRC, and he's come back pretty well from the DL. Consistency has always been the main issue with him, but he's been put in a position to succeed for quite a while now in a good hitters ballpark and he still hasn't gotten the job done offensively.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) I don't know if I want Crede back next year (scratch that -- I don't want Crede back next year), but I think this team is better with him at the hot corner, rather than Blum/Ozuna. I don't appreciate his defense enough... He goes to his left extremely well. Down the line, to his right, I don't think his range is that great, but he makes plays to his left that a shortstop is usually supposed to make. Oh yeah, got no problems with his defense whatsoever. It just comes down to how he contributes to this team offensively. I've been of the view the past few weeks, get Bill Mueller for the #2 hole, then Iguchi can move down. And there are other options, Nomar has said he could play at third. Right now, I'd put it at 50-50 for Crede coming back for next season. If he changes agents like Juan Uribe did, make that 60-40.

Rupe gave up 2ER tonight in 5 innings, giving up 1BB and 3 K's. He beat Felix Hernandez who gave up 5ER and 8 hits in over 3 innings.
-
After tonight, Joe Crede's 10 for 19 with a homer and 4 doubles since coming off the DL. He's trying to do what he can to save a spot for next season.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Leadoff position in the AL isn't too important, in my opinion. The only time it's important is if you have a superstar like Vlad in the 3rd spot. Rather, with the likely team we'll put on the field, we need offensive balance throughout. Well of course last year we had Willie Harris leading off, and most people remembered the complaints on him even though he had an OBP of around .340. And I disagree that it isn't too important, most of the good offenses genreally have a good leadoff hitter, and KW thought it was really important to get a good one in the off-season.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) BASES LOADED NO ONE OUT AND WE GET ONLY ONE RUN. ONLY THE WORST OFFENSE IN BASEBALL CAN DO THIS SORT OF DUMB s***. THE ROYALS, THEY SCORE AT LEAST 2. THE TWINKS DITTO. THE CORPSEBALL KIDS s*** IN THEIR PANTS AND LEAVE THE BASES LOADED. That would be Minny BTW. They couldn't get bases loaded with 0 outs anytime soon the way their offense has been.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) That's a good idea. We just need some more people who are interested. Im already in 3 but ill join more. Hey DBAHO, you going to start up this league if there is one or will someone else? If you need me to or anything let me know if and when you do and ill be the first in this third league. Ok well I'll bump this thread and we'll see if we can enough people interested, even enough for 6 teams.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) These rankings are probably the worst I have ever seen. Honestly, how can you even live with yourself? But seriously, they are way wrong. How Philly is #1 with a whining TO, hurt QB, and a week 1 loss, I dont know. Definitely not a #1 after Week 1. Atlanta is deserved of #2. I agree there. And I know you said that the rest could be in any order but Dallas 3rd? Talk about a bias! Ya homer! Carolina falls off a lot because 1) They lost and 2) they lost....Jenkins and Smith got roughed up big too. Seattle that high as well? New Orleans should be 3rd IMO. Their defense is still iffy but their showing was huge. They got a win and an entire country on their side. Detroit should be higher...they dominated the Slackers. Giants and Tb should be higher, Burress was big for NY and Smith for TB. Minnesota with a loss over Detroit with a win? Hmm. San Fran last? They are the only NFC West team with a win! Arizona is an upset to me because I really thought they would be good but they got shanked and gave up 42. Another one that mystifies me....Bears OVER Redskins.....who just beat the Bears. Green Bay is probably last to me. My rankings (based on Week 1 performance): NY Giants Atlanta San Francisco Dallas New Orleans Detroit Tampa Bay Philadelphia Seattle Washington Carolina St. Louis Arizona Minnesota Chicago Green Bay I'm looking at teams OVERALL, not how good they are after 1 week. How you can have San Francisco 3rd after they won at home in front of Dallas who beat a playoff team away, baffles me anyway. -
What a HUGE win. To Jon and Bobby!!!!!!

We are getting the breaks again. Thank you very much.
