    Ross Gload

    QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) And I'm going to keep raising it every time some other guy Gload could replace goes down for a few games. The 3-5 grand slam night at Charlotte by Gload is what triggered my latest outburst. Who would you rather see at bat? Timo Perez, Geoff Blum, or Ross Gload. Sure, Gload is not Ken Griffey, but his production in limited time last year was every bit as good as Lyle Overbay. Which is of course the end all to be all. Look I want Gload to be up as much as anybody, but the fact is this, he wouldn't DH, he wouldn't play 1B, he'd likely only play once or twice a week at the most. Is he going to to put up .300 when he's not playing everyday, I extremely doubt it. Besides, he's probably not going to be with us anyways next year, depending on his contract / options etc.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) How do you figure that? We have had a projected 20% increase in attendance and we are losing a bunch of salaries after this season. We are looking at a big bump in payroll. And not a good off-season to use it. Like Toronto, who are going to have big increases in payroll for the next few years, the Sox may have to add that salary through a trade if they miss out on the likes of Furcal and Burnett.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) 2 runs scored in the last 27 innings.....pathetic. That's 36. And enough of a sample size to fire a guy?
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 12:54 AM) What should Ozzie do about the lack of offense? Personally like I said in another thread, he needs to get the guys to hit where they're most comfortable in the lineup. I think Iguchi should be moved down to a run - producing spot, he's our best hitter right now. Hell move Rowand up to #2 to replace him, if not Uribe. Put Everett down behind Konerko, he's a much better hitter in the #5 spot. Then you have Dye and Pierzynski. A.J seems to have hit better when he's down at say #6 or #7 in the lineup than #5 for mine. In the previous off-season I was telling people, our lineup was going to be deeper this year, even without Maggs and Lee. We had the likes of A.J, Pods, Iguchi coming in etc., that would fill more holes in the lineup. Well the problem is now, without Pods, there's no platform at the top of the order, where our best hitters seem to be. If you move Iguchi down a little lower when Pods comes back, it makes the bottom half of our lineup better, especially if you move Uribe back up to #2 where he's hit best, because pitchers won't have to face Crede - Uribe back to back, which has almost become 2 automatic outs. Of course in the off-season, one of 3B or SS is definitely going to have to be upgraded. Rafael Furcal's an option, but is he good enough to be a #2 hitter, or would he have to be down at #9? What about Alex Gonzalez an Ozzie favorite? He'd prob hit the same spot as Juan right now. You've got Bill Mueller a FA. Great season 2 years ago, hasn't hit well since, especially away from Fenway. Slim pickings, unless they can work a trade.
  5. So anyways speaking of things that are expensive, me and my sister went to see Wedding Crashers last night, except we went Gold Class style. Basically it's reclining seats, in a movie theater with lots of room, and any food you want delivered at any time to a table seperating your seats, very ooh la la. Anyways, I just went for the Choc Top - Popcorn - Soda triple, the usual treat at the movies. But the people who ordered in front of us in the cure, the total bill came to $90. How the hell, do you spend $90 on food at the movies?
  6. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) The way the sox hitters are scuffling, they do make Chacon look like cy young. The point is that it can't be this bad for long. Nearly every sox hitter except for Konerko is at their worst point of the season or is slumping---far below their career avgs and their best point of this yr. This goes for Rowand, Dye, Iguchi, AJ, Everett. Yep and coupled with no Scotty Pod, that lineup looks a whole lot worse. It won't be like that for long though. They've just got to get the bats going before it's too late.
  7. You cannot underestimate how much impact Scott Podsednik has on this offense. And I think it's almost time to move Iguchi to a run scoring spot say in Everett's spot, and move Uribe back up to the #2 spot. Yeah Uribe's not going to do the small things Gooch can, but he's been far more patient, and you just feel he may get on a streak sometime soon. Everett can go down to #5, Konerko at 4, Iguchi at 3, then you have Dye, Pierzynski and Rowand down the lower end making that lineup look deeper. Something to consider in my mind, although I think next year Iguchi's going to be hitting say at #6 anyway, if we can get a good 2 hole hitter.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 06:25 AM) wheres Anthrax? Oh, he is checking to see if Orlando Cabrera cleared yet. Ahh yes, I'll bring forth the argument he'd say; "But he's hitting .272 in the 2nd half!!!!!"

    QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) Yeah,but he'll never come here.If he didn't want to go to Baltimore,what make us think he'll come to Chicago? I think his family wanted him to stay on the west coast,that's why he didn't leave the Padres when they first tried to dealt him to the O's. He had a no trade clause, 8 teams he would approve a deal to. I assume it's mostly West - Coast teams and we're not on it, but it's the chance to play in the playoffs for him.
  15. Just throwing it out there, yeah he wouldn't be the most popular addition of all time. Oh he's not a lefty hitter. My bad;
  16. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) The #5 Spot.I remember the bad old days when guys like Danny "Can't do it" Wright,Arnie Munoz,plus other guys called up from Charlotte would get hammered that day.Gives me nightmares just remembering that. And with all of the pessimism and "The Sky is Falling" threads etc. people should just sit back, take a deep breath, and remember those days when Arnie Munoz gives up 10+ runs in a couple of innings.
  17. Yeah Owens has lit up AA. Yeah he could be the MVP. But reading Razor Shines thoughts on him in BA's Daily Dish was something in itself, also with the way scouts feel about him. With Anderson already up, he won't be here anytime soon with about only 5 months of AA experience.
  18. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) Humm,I would think that Houston's Minute Maid Park would be up there with the short left field "sand box"-like stands. Probably because Bagwell's missed pretty much all of the season, and Lance Berkman started out real slow. Besides those 2, Morgan Ensberg is their only real other main power hitter.
  19. Yep and of course don't forget about the better pitching from the White Sox from their starters AND relievers. Of course when you looked at Contreras's numbers last year and who we had in the #5 spot, it was always something that was going to be improved.
  20. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) If you take $23.5M off their hands for the next 3 yrs they can buy themselves a #1 starter. Yep because that's exactly what they did last off-season with Eric Milton right? The only #1 starter out there this off-season is A.J Burnett, and I don't think he'll be wanting to go to Cincinatti somehow.

  22. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) agent said benson wasnt affected by angelo's statement today...continued to say "maybe benson isnt meant to be a bear" No suprise there. My guess is the Bears will cave in at the end of the pre-season after they see how bad their offense is.
  23. QUOTE(AirScott @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) you're right in one aspect, Jones isn't the back for Turner's offense. but Jones showed last year he could be a starter, four 100 games behind that line ain't bad, specially since he isn't the right back for the system. It'll be interesting to see if he starts, what type of runs Turner has for him, because he's the type of back who would look perfect for the Denver Broncos just cuttting back. That's why Benson is so important to the Bears offense, and why the Bears need to get him signed. He's a power runner. Chad Hutchison isn't going to win you any games this year. The only way the Bears will have a good season, if they can get a good power running game going with Benson and Jones as the fill in guy, that takes time off the clock, and keep Chicago's defense fresh.
  24. Ok I've started up a 14 team league, I'm going to PM the people who are interested so far the league details and password.
  25. QUOTE(AirScott @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) RB is not a big need on offense, Jones did well last year, he was the lone bright spot (on offense). that line is the biggest need, if I were QBing for the Bears I'd lobby for a blocking sled over that line. Thomas Jones isn't a starting running back in this league. He is a slasher, the Bears want a power runner for Ron Turner's offense. He hasn't shown he can be durable for a whole season, and only had 4 games last year where he rushed for over 100 yards. He's going to need to double that this year if he's startin, which I can't see happenin.
