QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Yes we won that game in Spite of Ozzie... There were about three bullpen arms that was sitting there availiable in the pen that would of been a better option in that situation then Marte, who sucks lately... You know it's gotten bad when I feel better with Vizcaino on the hill lately then Marte... The sad thing is I can still remember when he was the best arm we had... Ok so let's see here. A 2 year old manages us last night. Does he or she do a better job than Ozzie? Hermy has a bad back. He's not going to pitch for a whole inning. Marte has had experience closing games before, and most importantly in this season and the last. Vizcaino hasn't. Cotts hasn't. You don't put Jenks into a situation like that at Yankee Stadium, it'll crush him mentally if he fails. Politte had already gone an inning. That leaves the ALMIGHTY Jon Adkins.

Inspired posts of reason coming as to why Griffey is needed, and who we'd give up for him. It's just like he's gonna appear at the Cell from a Magic Carpet or something. Yeesh.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Mark Grace is going to be fired. So no Thom Bremannan while we're at it?

QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) Our #5 and #4 out pitched their #2 and #3, not by much but I thought Hernandez had an easier time then Mussina and the same last evening, again not by much. If you think we are worried about Hermanson's back what to do think the Yanks are thinking of Johnson's??? Man I would still like to see another LH bat. If Everett gets going again, put him in the #5 hole, that will definitely bring some balance to the lineup.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) I'd take that a step further, and say that I would bet dollars to donuts that no one on this board understands the game of baseball or this team's intracies as well as Ozzie Guillen does. Its incredible to me to think that people honestly believe that Ozzie wouldn't be trying to win games of this calibur. Like I've said before with Marte, yeah he's not pitching great at the moment, and yeah he can't get lefties. But do you know how important a dominant Damaso Marte could be to this team come playoff time (if we do make it, which we should). You do things for a long - term gain, not only a short - term gain.

Everyone who can get along to this absolutely should. It's not very often you'd be able to socialize with fellow SoxTalk members, see a great game of baseball, and have some great food and drink while you're at it. I'd jump at the oppurtunity if I could.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) Well there should be a nice balance in order for the message board to be successful. Problem is there isn't. Case in point, last night. There was more on the why wasn't Hermanson used in the 9th, blah, blah, blah, our offense sucks, we can't hit etc., than there was on the great outing Contreras had and the win we picked up.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) I agree, Ozzie had Jenks in there for the 8th inning Mon. nite vs. their top hitters, that was a good way to get his feet wet. I had to laugh last nite during the game thread, some of the people on this board are convinced they know more than the manager, the trainer, etc. Then the story comes out about Hermanson's back being cranky. Oops. It'll be the same story the next time too. Overreact, scream and yell, and THEN find out the truth. Of course we won last night "in spite" of Ozzie. GMAFB.

Another guy to toss out possibly is Casey Rogowski, although that's extremely doubtful at best because you've got Ross Gload wasting away in AAA (albeit he is playing RF everyday which could mean something in itself). Anderson hasn't played for the past week down in Charlotte, hopefully it's nothing serious, because the way he's been swinging the bat, even though Charlotte is a hitter's park and his K/BB ratio needs serious improvement, he could have a Jeff Francouer like impact (and Francouer had worse stats than Chris Young in AA before he was promoted to the Braves). One thing with Owens, he's got a real good OBP (with a 58/40 K/BB ratio), but he's stolen 31 bases and been caught 16 times, which is Willie Harris like. In short, he's gonna have to learn how to steal a base better, but we've got Tim Raines Jr. to help him with that if he's called up in the future.

First the Bears and now us. Something weird is going on.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) I took my car in today for the usual: oil chance, tires rotated, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, the man that met me at the car (they usually meet you there, hold your door open, show you into the service area, whatever) says as I get out of my car, "Are you here to get serviced today?" I wasn't sure how to respond. I hope it was worth the money you paid.

Since I've only been to Arizona and California can't really say much on this, but the drive north from Phoenix was very nice with the surroundings etc. Not much if you go south west- along the Mexcian Border to Yuma though.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Haigwood has been very, very impressive this season. Any chance he can supplant B-MAC as our top pitching prospect this year if he keeps dominating? Haigwood's having a very B-Mac like 2004, where he's jumped to a higher level and just gotten better. Hopefully he can stay away from the injuries that caused him to miss a lot of action so far in his minor league career. Would I call him our best pitching prospect though? He'd have to keep pitching the way he has probably for the rest of the season, but I think after McCarthy, people are probably going to rate Gio a little higher (even though he's struggled with his ERA at Winston - Salem).

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) Bring me Leo BWAHAHAHA, he can come along with Derek Lowe if he wants. Anyways, Owens has been in the minors for pretty much just over a full season now. I think they'll want to see how he does in Charlotte next season, but he projects to be a 4th OF in the long - term, unless he can keep hitting. Anderson will be a September call - up, but the Sox can always call him up before then and use him in the playoffs. He could be used in the DH spot instead of Timo, and could also be used in the OF, instead of Timo.

Who was the poster who said he wasn't going to be very good again when he 1st pitched against Detroit?

So Haigwood pitched 7 innings, 0ER, 1BB and 7K's. ERA with B-Ham down to 0.89 now. Owens got another hit, but not much else offense except for Young's homer. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...biraax_msbaax_1 Bristol won 17-1. Cunningham 2 for 3, Sanchez 2 for 5, while Viola picked up the win. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...brirok_jcyrok_1 Oh and Charlotte lost 9-4. Bad start for Ulacia, Borch 2 for 4 with 2 K's, still no Anderson. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...chraaa_noraaa_1

Chicago Blackhawks Offseason Bonanza Thread
DBAHO replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Sean Burke signed with Tampa Bay tonight. That probably leaves Pittsburgh and Phoenix as the front-runners for T-Bo now. -
That was only count's 7th win of the year. Good to see him win a close game when he's deserved to win one too.

QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) Haigwood with another dominating performance. Can anyone give me an accurate scouting report on his stuff? BHAM? Rex? Anyone else? Thanks! Chris Young was finally back tonight as well and homered. As for Haigwood; 13. Daniel Haigwood, LHP, 21, Birmingham Potential: 6 Big League Odds: 40% When it comes to prospects, Daniel Haigwood has improved his status more than any other Sox minor leaguer this season. Haigwood was the ace of the Warthogs' staff along with Charles Haeger for part of the year going 8-2 with a 3.77 ERA in 15 starts. Daniel struck out 84 in 76.1 innings while giving up 79 hits, earning himself a promotion to AA Birmingham. Haigwood pitched brilliantly in his first start for the Barons and is expected to finish out the season in Birmingham. The 21 year old lefty gave up just one run on 3 hits in 6.2 innings of work with 7 strikeouts in his only AA start. Haigwood features a 88-91 MPH fastball with good movement, a plus curveball and a good changeup. Haigwood pitched admirably in 2004, after missing the entire 2003 season, and is now at 100%. Haigwood walks roughly one batter every two innings and needs to improve on his control. However, the lefty has what it takes to become a back of the rotation starter and does an excellent job keeping batters off-balance.
