QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) With the bulls not having a first round pick has anyone lost interest in this years draft Absolutely not.

I've merged this into the ATH thread about this rumor. Posters, please take note of the big trade thread that's pinned in PHT, and if a topic's already been posted already.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) The article says that the Marlins would want a "left-handed hitting outfielder." That would be Sweeney if they want a prospect. If we still have Brian Anderson, he could start in RF and Dye could be converted to a 1st baseman. By the way, do you really want to trust Contreras in the playoffs? Well the Marlins don't want a prospect. They have already have some good OF's in their systen. Do you think McCarthy and Sweeney would be enough or giving up too much for Burnett though, especially if we can't re-sign him?

I'm just gonna merge this with the thing I posted.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) McCarthy, Sweeney, etc. The Sox are having their best season in a long time. Do whatever it takes to win this year. I'd rather give Burnett $9 million a year than Konerko and have Gload as our starting 1st baseman honestly. Ok let's see here. Payroll goes up each season about 8 to 10 mill (Steff and Mike know more about this than I do). You trade for Burnett and give up Anderson and McCarthy plus a fringe prospect. You have 6 pitchers under contract for next season, and Burnett WILL get more than $9 million. Why? Because some team like Detroit will be desperate to improve their team anyway possible and will offer him a huge deal e.g Maggs, so they can get him. Now if Burnett DID sign for $9m which he won't, here's how much we have tied up in our pitchers for next season; Buerhle - About $7.5 million Garcia - $9 million Contreras - About $6 to 8 million Hernandez - $4 million Burnett - $9 million Garland - About 4 to $6 million from a new deal. All up that's approx. $41.5 million for 6 guys in a starting rotation. That's about 50% of your payroll right there, leaving the other 50% for the lineup and bullpen. Konerko goes who do you sign to replace his production? If Anderson is traded now, he can't go to RF next season so Dye can move to 1B. Gotta remember with all of this win now mentality for the playoffs. We could only need 3 or 4 guys in our rotation to use. That's Buerhle, Garcia and Garland, with Contreras as the 4th guy.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 07:44 AM) We shall see. I don't have high hopes. Gotta remember, Detroit's pen hasn't been that great either so hopefully we can get to them early in the series. If B-Mac can throw the change for strikes, and establish his curve, and leave his fastball down in the zone, he'll pitch well in my mind. Don't give up on him because his last 2 or 3 starts haven't been great, gotta remember how well he threw in his MLB debut against the Flubs.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) Burnett would be worth the prospects and a new contract. So what prospects would you give up for him, and how much would you resign Burnett for? (think supply and demand for FA MLB quality SP's).

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 07:07 AM) El Duque is shaky as hell but I have no face in McCarthy getting a W. The Tigers' lineup is a hell of a lot better than the Royals' lineup. He is also pitching at Comerica, and the Tigers haven't been scoring that many runs lately, they don't take walks and strike out a lot. Vargas, who nobody would have given a chance last night, made them look very, very silly.

Saw a preview of it at the last movie I saw. Looked overdone.

Probably depends if someone dobs you in, at least that's the case in Australia, where we've got water restrictions, and have damns that are only up to about 30 to 40% full. You'd think it'd be even worse out here, but you can pretty much use all of the water you want, at least that's what they've told me.

Gotta remember he's hitting half of his games in a pitchers park, in his first season at AA. Yes the lack of power is disheartening, but there's plenty of time for him to make it, and he shouldn't be rushed.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:50 AM) I look at it this way... Would you rather burn to death or freeze to death. Burning sounds a lot more painful. I choose the cold. Considering there's more likelihood of the 2nd one occuring, I'd take the hot weather anytime.

And I wanted to boo him yesterday.

Jeremy Roenick sounds off about fans
DBAHO replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Speaking of Ice Hockey, we drove past the new Glendale Ice Hockey Arena and the new football stadium the Cardinals are building, and both look impressive as hell, although the Ice Hockey Stadium almost looks puny compared to the other one. But uh yes back on topic, Roenick is an idiot. Nice to see the overpaid stars like him and Jagr really appease themselves even more to the fans. -
QUOTE(farmteam @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:09 AM) Sorry for the off shoot, but why are you not Down Under, you crazy Aussie?! Also, there are plenty of great places in the suburbs, just have to commute farther. And it's not too hard to do by train. 3 week vacation (not holiday, there you go Alex ). Trading winter for summer and loving it.

Absolutely no regrets for Garcia one year later

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:05 AM) Russ Ortiz got a lot of money because he was in the magic hands of Leo Mazzone and GM's haven't figured out yet that Leo's actually related to Jesus. I swear that guy does for pitchers what Coors Field does for batters. Millwood, Neagle, Ortiz, Glavine, how much better were each of them when they pitched for Mazzone? But still have a look at Ortiz's numbers from last season with Mazzone. He had an ERA over 4, 112 BB's, and only 31 more K's. Compared to Jaret Wright numbers, there's no way Ortiz should have gotten what he did, and now the D-Backs are paying for it. He's getting killed at the BOB (.349/.447/.544) and has 7 more walks than strikeouts. But Mazzone is a genius, but he does have some failures as well. Danny Kolb has lost his job as the closer, but he'd only be one of only a couple that haven't succeeded under Leo. -
Aaron Gleeman doesn't think so, oh and he doesn't think Jon Garland is an All - Star either;

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) Well the kids is pitching in a pitchers park up in Comerica. He better keep the ball down. That lineup can lace the ball like crazy. This start should really tell us where he is. I think this start will also tell KW if he needs to go and get someone. They can, but they're not as good as they may be seen. They don't take any walks as a bunch at all, and swing at a lot at balls out of the zone. B-Mac just needs to keep the ball down, and he can work around the plate a little, and they'll probably chase some balls. It's good to see Freddy pitching in a day game too, that's where he's had his most success this season. Big ballpark, day game, he should pitch a good game (but I said the same about Bonderman yesterday before he got hammered).
-
It's more likely some team like the D-Backs that REALLY needs more bullpen help than us will grab him. At least we have some dominant guys in Cotts and Politte.

Down here in the valley, it's gonna get to the high 100's today, and over 110 later in the week, but if you go up to the mountains and grand canyon, it's only in the 60's to 80's. At the BOB yesterday, they didn't have the air conditioning on, according to the local we went with, but it was still pretty comfortable. The pool looked nice to be in though.

Absolutely no regrets for Garcia one year later
DBAHO replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Both teams should be happy without a doubt. Morse and Reed look like being good players for a long time for the M's, they just have to get Miggy hitting now. And then there's Garcia. Russ Ortiz got over $30 million this off-season. Nuff said. -
Cavaliers lure spurs' ferry to be new gm.
DBAHO replied to qwerty's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:40 AM) ferry needs to find an all star free agent to complement lebron and if he does the cavs are goin to the playoffs And that may not even happen. Michael Redd will probably stay with the Bucks, and if Phoenix can trade Q-Rich, they'll resign Joe Johnson. They may have to settle for someone like Larry Hughes who wouldn't be a bad consolation prize at all. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) Yeah I live in Indiana and commute to downtown everyday. The rents are WAY cheaper in the burbs, the farther you are willing to commute, the cheaper it is. Out here in Phoenix it's kind of like that too. It's all really, really spread out though in the valley, there's no real great city centre to speak of. And my Dad's out here doing IT stuff for American Express at the moment, since there's nothing back down in Australia with a lot of Aussie Companies outsourcing because it's cheaper.
