  1. Carrying on from Jabroni yesterday - 1 Homer at the Cell.
  2. Federer's unbeatable on grass. Guys like Safin have beat him on hardcourts though, Too bad grass is Roddick's best surface as well.
  3. Pulling a Texas on Texas, me likey. Been designated to Winston - Salem according to minorleaguebaseball. This season though with Bakersfield 2-5, 6.93 ERA, 36 BB's, 33 K's.
  4. >> To educate the masses.
  5. QUOTE(Fotop @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 04:49 AM) Thomas I believe, DBAH0. Nice to see someone demonstrate some tennis knowledge. He won the Aussie Open beating Safin 3 years ago IIRC. A very good baseline player when healthy. He won't beat Roddick though, but Federer will.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 04:49 AM) For some strange reason, people will go to another team for less money if they think it is right for them or if they like the town....See: Jermaine Dye. Actually on Dye, he said he went to the Sox because they made him the first offer. Arizona offered him more money, but because the Sox already offered him a deal, he decided to take it, so the D-Backs had to settle for Jose Cruz Jr. who's hitting about .210.
  7. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) He is a southside Sox fan...so that's what I'm hoping for...money isn't everything ya know The Cards have a 7.25 million team option on him for 2006. They'll use it. Expect them to get a long - term deal done before he hits FA.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 04:05 AM) Congrats to Mike Stanton, as you've become Soxtalk's *Official* "Flavor of the Week". If you recall, Kevin Walker also had this spot for about a month, as well as Arizona Diamondback Alex Cintron. I'm sure that we'll see tons and tons of stats on you -- sometimes bolded, other times provided by links -- that you know we haven't ever seen before. Oh... and this is a good move, 'cause Kevin Walker >>> Neal Cotts. Right? I love my signature.
  9. Thoughts on Everything: Vizquel - Saw him first hand last night, went 4 for 4 with a walk IIRC. Looked good in the batters box, layed down a real good bunt, and just looked a good #2 hitter in general. That said, I wouldn't want to trade Juan Uribe in a deal for him. Schmidt - Don't want him especially for a BIG package when his .BAA and away splits are BRUTAL. Conor Jackson - The D-Backs are open to trading him. Why? Because long - term he projects to be a DH. He's not a good enough fielder to be an OF (even in a corner spot) and may not be for 1B either, especially when they already have Chad Tracy and Tony Clark. They would trade him for a quality pitching prospect like Brandon McCarthy. Something to consider. Arizona - I gotta think if anything, they should be looking at a guy like Munoz or Bajenaru, who they could control for a few seasons, and could turn into quality relievers at the MLB level.
  10. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 03:22 AM) marvin williams, mccants, green, granger, simeon, stoudamire Simeon's an interesting one. IF he can stay heathy, the Heat got themselves a bargain at their pick. It's almost a given that Udonis Haslem will be leaving now too. Stoudemire I don't see anything better than another Tony Delk.
  11. Giambi - He's not playing everyday this season, what does that tell you. They'll buy him out, or get an upgrade e.g Paulie. Just because they're paying him heaps, they're not forced to play him everyday if he's not performing. They're the Yankees. Overbay - Milwaulkee are going to really want something big for him in a trade. Just look at his splits. And if any team is going to get him, it's the New York Mets. 1B next year - If Konerko stays, then that position is locked up, but I don't want more than $10 million per season in a contract with him. He's streaky and can't hit lefties. Now if he does leave, the options are; 1 - Move Dye to 1st base and Brian Anderson to RF. Total saving of about $8 million. 2 - Sign someone like J.T Snow or Doug Mientkiewicz. Total saving of about $5 to 6 million. 3 - Let Ross Gload play everyday or sign a platoon partner. Total saving of about $6 to $7 million. I like the 1st option the best IF Dye can handle 1st, but I wouldn't mind Snow on the southside. He's a lefty AB, a great fielder, and hits for good average with a little pop that would increase at the Cell.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 05:16 AM) Anyone watching this year? I was lucky enough to catch the final set of Roddick versus Grosjean. For the first four or so games, Roddick looked invincible. Managed to hold on for the win. IIRC, here are the semifinal matchups: #1 Federer (yea, go Switzerland) vs. #3 Lleyton Hewitt #2 Roddick vs. #12 Johannsen? Hopefully both top seeds hold. Federer vs. Roddick would be awesome. Anyone know Johannson's first name?
  13. Charlie Villenueva Williams, Green or Paul.
  14. Someone's still annoyed about not getting a new contract.
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) It's not about Hermanson, it's about trying to reestablish Shingo as a reliever Ozzie can have some faith in. Look, we have a 10 game lead now with a lot of games to play. If Ozzie waits till someone gets hurt and our lead is cut in half, then there is 10X the pressure on Shingo. You get Shingo going again, and suddenly our bullpen looks a whole lot better. Definitely a key going into the 2nd half of the year and the playoffs, in case something does happen to the "Herminator".
  16. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) If hermanson cannot pitch more than three innings in 18 days i do not want him on the team. True, but let's look at the positives here. Getting Shingo to pitch more than 2 innings without giving up an ER is quite an achievement. Vizcaino too, even though he gave up 4H which ain't good.
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) Why is this board so enamored with BAJ. Why isn't every scout in the country looking at this guy? Why doesn't anyone want to trade for him? Its because he is not good enough for the majors.Again its my opinion but outside of this board, nobody in the country cares about this guy. Jeff Bajenaru - 2-1, 1.27 ERA, 50 K's, 21 BB's, 3 HR. Arnie Munoz - 2-9, 3.94 ERA, 54 K's, 23 BB's Matt Smith - 0-4, 4.82 ERA, 34 K's, 19 BB's. Dave Sanders - 2-2, 3.38 ERA, 31 K's, 21 BB's Kevin Walker - 0-2, 5.11 ERA, 27 K's, 15 BB's. That's why.
  18. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) I think McCarthy should thank himself for giving up bomb after bomb that would be homers in almost any other ballpark. San Diego. Oakland. Many, many more.
  19. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) The offense isn't exactly sputtering here....if we score 6 and can't win the game, that's really not the hitters' faults. Time to BUMP for B-Mac's sake.
  20. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) whats with the negativity It's a game thread.
  21. Ok time to see how everyone did, and for the "Flyball, not at the Cell" excuses to come out.
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) 4 homers at the Cell... Next time a pitcher starts I'm gonna keep count.
  23. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) The difference is that Jason Johnson GETS to pitch at Comerica for his home games. McCarthy will have to pitch at the Cell during home games. Well do you think Detroit would to have B-Mac then, instead of someone like Ledezma? Garcia's a flyball pitcher too, and he's had a good season. Buerhle has terrible splits at the Cell last season, and he's been great there this year. It's POSSIBLE to pitch well there.
  24. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) People are such homers. It's ridiculous. If he was pitching at the Cell he would have given up 3 homers tonight. And Jason Johnson would have too. Can you imagine his numbers if he pitched for us instead of Detroit?
  25. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) None, he would be the only guy there. Well done.
