God I love free movie tickets. So yeah saw Batman Begins tonight. Really enjoyed it, Christian Bale was perfect for the role and had it down to a tee, but I almost couldn't help myself laughing at Katie Holmes being a tough DA after what's happened with her and Cruise over the past few weeks.

Ahhh yes the old graveyard shift, done a few of those in my time. So I'm sympathetic, but unfortunately some people have to do these jobs.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) I think you got Scotty's stats from the end of yesterday. He's currently at .289/.363/.332 Stupid ESPN.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Well, I was more worried about Greinke and we ended up beating him. I don't mind facing a lefty considering we are the best lefty-hitting team in the MLB... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...=31&season=2005 I hope the stats hold true tomorrow. It'd be even better if Paulie could get it going against lefties. -
QUOTE(forrestg @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) I can see McCarthy fluorishing in our pen.. If you notice his concentrations is good for a few inning.. He can handle it he needs to apprentice a little longer in the pen.. Cotts has apprenticed long enough he should be #5 . I think we would have plenty of room for this experiment if Viscaino could be waived and El Duque sent down to aaa for rehab. Cotts is our best reliever right now. He needs to stay in the bullpen.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) Kotsay isn't haven't a very good season but then again, no one on the A's is. He's not having his best season, but still splits of .276/.334/.397 aren't the worse, a little bit better than Willie Harris last season, but not as good as Scotty this year. Just goes to show you how good of a year Podsednik is having really. .281/.357/.325.

I watched Howell pitch against the D-Backs in his debut game. He had something like 8 K's in 5 innings. Good stuff, not really higher than the low to mid 90's on his fastball, but he works the corners a lot, and reminds me almost of Mark Buerhle. -
Kotsay would be a perfect fit here if we didn't have Scott Podsednik. Beane loves him though, and was working on an extension for him. If anything, the Yankees are probably going to end up with him or Johnny Damon if they both hit FA.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) don't worry, Sox-r-us... the kings of the webboards just freak out when their little equilibrium is messed up. Don't worry about them. Yes my life is forever ruined now. Merging Time.

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) Also regarding the BriSox game, it should be noted that 2 of our stud Domincan League guys had very good first games. Salvador Sanchez went 2-4 with a walk-off HR, 2B, and 3 runs scored, while Ramon Sanchez got the start and ND giving up 1 run (1 ER) in 5.1 IP. He also k'd 7 and walked 0. Great start for those 2, I didn't even know we had sign a pitcher called Sanchez but I knew we had the outfielder. Reading about him though, he's got 3 plus pitches and great stuff, and he had a real good outing tonight. Definitely keep an eye on these two for the rest of the year and into the future, it's good to see the increased scouting in the Dominican Republic starting to pay off a little.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 11:03 AM) We are facing LHP J.P. Howell. He went 3 picks before Tyler Lumsden, so he's only been in the minor league system for about a year. Moved up very, very quick.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) If McCarthy does succeed out of the bullpen, we could see the end of Vizcaino. One of Viz or Shingo should be down in AAA anyways and Jeff Bajenaru taking over their role, but hey what do I know.

I still think El Duque will be the guy, and we won't be trading for a 5th starter.

May 25 - Ozzie's ranting is a cry for respect June 6 - Ozzie needs Big Frank, like it or not June 14 - Truth be told, Sox need bold deals June 16 - Everett's Big Mouth not what Sox need June 21 - Sox definitely won't choke BANDWAGON Sense a pattern here? -
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) Not sure why you'd say that no one would trade for him and his contract is quite reasonable for a closer(team option for $4.5 in '06, player option for less or FA). As to his arm, yes that concerns me but this is also something he has pitched with all yr to the tune of 19 saves and a 1.38 era. Is there a risk? Hell yea and that's why I've gone back and forth with him but that risk also means that his price will be much less and with him in a dual closer role with Hermy the prospect of him being overworked(actually both of them) can be controlled. IMO he is exactly what KW is looking for, someone who can easily be added to the mix without upsetting the chemistry while significantly upgrading a key team component. Teams are just going to be very weary with pitchers now. Look at Octavio Dotel. Dotel insisted he was fine, and now he's had surgery and won't be back for the rest of the year. For the price Seattle is going to ask for, I can't see many teams really wanting to make a big move for Eddie the Eagle.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) He just wants to push the idea of spending a lot of money so he can bash Reinsdorf later in the season if he doesn't do it. Once again I present to the good people, the Jay Mariotti School of Thought; "Ooooohhh Ken Griffey Jr. makes over $60 million over the next 4 seasons. He must be a great player. JR is a douchebag if he doesn't trade for him" "Joe Randa? How much does he make? Typical deadline acquisition from KW and JR." -

Sorry Jay; And good Starters, Relievers, and Hitters aren't exactly plentiful either. -
And no suprisingly it's not in New Zealand;

We had the Blue and White colors at my private high school as well. Socks pulled up in the summer, ties worn in the winter. But once you got to be a senior, you got to wear special blazers and white shirts instead of grey. Here's an example of the blazer I found; Some of the colors our opposing schools wore though were purple and white, red and blue, green and white, and red and white.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 05:42 AM) um, so when did Ryan Sweeney start to suck? He was injured for the early part of the season, but he is hitting down at AA which is a pitchers park. Still it is disheartening to see him display no power when the likes of Chris Young who made the jump up from Kanny seem to be handling things ok. Right now, the closer market is looking pretty thin. Wagner won't be dealt with the Phillies in contention. Mesa looks like he's headed to the D-Backs. Guardado no team will trade for, with that contract and arm. That leaves Brad Lidge, and Tim Purpura is going to want a hell of a lot for a guy who is very cheap in such an important position until 2008 IIRC. The only other guy I could possibly see getting dealt is Derrick Turnbow, if the Brewers are out of contention, but once again, a cheap, young closer, the Brewers are going to want some real good prospects. It's more likely therefore a middle relief guy is acquired, but the Sox do have other options in Bajenaru, Jenks, Diaz and Munoz who have had success in the bullpen whether its AA, AAA or in the major leagues, if they want to go that route first.
-
I still think in the best interests both short - term and long - term for the Sox, these moves need to happen; Send B-Mac down to the minors as soon as El Duque is back healthy to work on throwing his change consistently for strikes, and to get the ball down in the zone more. Keep El Duque as a starter. Yes he hasn't been good lately. But he's a 2nd half pitcher, a proven playoff performer, and he's won 7 games thus far. Send Shingo or Luis Vizcaino down to AAA and promote Jeff Bajenaru to perform as the mop-up righty guy, who could potentially move into a 7th inning position. Potentially give either Munoz or Diaz a shot. It's likely we're going to be acquiring some bullpen help next month anyways, but these 2 guys are probably our next 2 options. I don't want to see Jenks up yet. It's his 1st year back from elbow surgery, and bringing him up too early could mess with his head. He could be our future closer, so lets not ruin the process. Yes Munoz and Diaz both have ERA's of around 4 at Charlotte, not good, but not bad either especially considering Charlotte is a hitters park. And yes they both sucked as starters last season. But in September last year look how they peformed; Diaz - 1-1, 2.16 ERA, 11 K's, 5 BB's. Munoz - 0-0, 1.80 ERA, 8 BB's, 8 K's, .176 BA. Munoz and Diaz aren't going to make it as starters for us, not while we've got B-Mac, Gonzalez, Broadway, Lumsden, Liotta etc. down in the minors. They could turn into valuable setup men however like Neal Cotts has done. The process may be a little painful at first, but the rewards are there for everyone to see, good, young, cheap, bullpen guys, exactly what the Twins are trying to do.
