White Sox at Detroit Tigers 6/28 6:05
DBAHO replied to AddisonStSox's topic in 2005 Season in Review
If the Tiggies play as bad as I saw em play yesterday, we will sweep em very, very easily. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Yup, same has been said about a million 7 footers. One of the bigger hypes in recent years would be nikoloz tskitishvili. He was supposedly the next dirk because he has a nice touch along with range. He has never had the oppurtunity though so i don't feel he can't contribute. Darko need to get out of detroit now and go to a cellar dweller type team. I'd love for Orlando to trade for him to pair him up with Dwight for the next decade. Here's what I would do if I was the Magic at the draft; Trade #11 and DeShawn Stevenson plus future #1 or 2 future 2nd rounders for Portland's #3 pick to select Deron Williams. Trade Jameer Nelson for Darko Milicic, and work around some draft picks. Sign a point guard like Antonio Daniels to the MLE.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) I agree with you on all of that. Another thing is that I have this fear that this guy will be just like Borchard. Borchard tore up the minors and he was a sure-thing starter of the future. I cringe to think what we could have gotten for him if he just had the balls to trade him. I wouldn't say Borchard tore up the minors. His best year in the minors was in 2001, .295/.380/.509 with B-Ham. He hasn't hit over .275 again since. The Sox rushed him up too quick when he had a K/BB ratio of around 3:1 in almost every minor league stop. That's one thing that worries me a little about Brian Anderson and why he shouldn't be rushed. And yes, prospects are prospects. But you can't keep trading for players all the time, that adds extra payroll money, something that can't be happening consistently unless you have a real big budget like the Yankees etc. The Twins have shown the benefits of developing good young players in Crain, Morneau and Mauer. They would cost around $1 million this season together.

Ok here are some pics, we went to Cooperstown as well before the game, and Jackson's afterwards. Definitely recommend them as bars / restaraunts etc.

QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) tigers/ d-backs how did you decide on that game its kind of random I'm in Phoenix for a few weeks, so I'm just going to go to any game I can basically. We'll probably see a Giants vs. D-Backs game this week, and maybe a Padres game down in San Diego over the weekend if they are playing at PETCO.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) i sure hope you heckled. and then got crazy looks from the rest of the fans glad you finally got to see a MLB game. I had my Dad's louthmouth work partner seated next to me who wore an Aussie Rugby Jersey, and he got really, really pissed. Pretty funny in the later innings especially since he's a Tigers fan.

Well I finally went to my 1st ever game of Baseball b/w the D-Backs and Tiggies. We had seats up in the upper deck behind the home plate and got a nice view of the ballpark in general. It was Bonderman vs. Vargas on the hill, and man Bonderman was just horrible. He left his breaking balls up in the zone, and his fastballs right over the plate, and the D-Backs just took full advantage. Shawn Green hit 2 homers including one rebounding off the brick wall into the pool. And the Tiggies hitters just made Vargas look great even though I don't think he pitched that great, they just swung at anything basically. But then the D-Backs bullpen came out in the later innings and gave up 5 runs, they started booing Koplove real bad after he gave up a 3 run homer to Infante off the LF foul pole, which was quite hilarious. But in general, there's no point to be worried at all about the Tiggies over the next few seasons. Their hitters don't take enough walks, and their pitching today, including their bullpen were pretty brutal. I'll post some pics later maybe.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) Is there a scouting report on this dude? And how fast you think he can move through the system... Just think Juan Gonzalez minus the nagging injuries.

QUOTE(Beastly @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) Yeah, I saw his ERA and I was like, oh great... It's only a AAA game. Ain't gonna kill anyone.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) The channel called "off". It's a good channel, your TV doesn't make a sound and it's black all the time. What about the channel called Video1 or AV1? Nothing but static 24/7.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) No comment from me. I'll end up showing my DePaul bias...I'll just say he is long and athletic and could be a decent shot-blocker... And the basketball IQ of a mule (believe me I watched him in Orlando for 3 seasons). -
QUOTE(zach23 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) Would it make him feel even better knowing that I roll out of bed around 7:30 - 8:00 depending on how I feel and then walk over to my desk in the loft of my house. There I sit and work in my boxer shorts. When the Sox play day games I can watch them on t.v. There is nobody around to bother me. I can drink while working if I want. On nice days I take the laptop out on the deck and work. No traffic to deal with in the morning or afternoon. If I get tired I can lay down and take a quick nap. I guess uhhh Office Politics isn't much of a problem for ya is it?

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) :banghead unfortunately. all summer jobs fell through. PS: if you ever come to chicago, don't shop at dominick's. I'll be in Phoenix in about 24 hours, so I'll be on the lookout there instead.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) Not to be Dr. Doom over here, but we have lost a few serieses this year. I'll admit I'm scared to play Texas in the playoffs. I think Texas is really the team I fear the most. We'll see how we stack up against NYY and BOS in August. I don't know if Texas has got enough quality starting pitching to hold up over a 5 game series, let alone a 7 game series. But when their bats are on fire, it might not even matter.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) I sure can't say why they'd trade Oswalt, but I'd like to see what that damn article says. The only scenario I can think of is that Houston might want to do an Indians type purge .. start over from scratch type thing. Is this the one you're talking about?

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) i'm an unemployed college kid Live off ya parents do ya.

Ahh the advantages of living Down Under. You don't have to listen to idiots like Jay Mariotti and Mike North. Really should try it some time.

1) Zito needs Rick Peterson. 2) Zito is most likely headed to Philly. 3) If we acquire a starter, I'm of the view Miguel Batista is the guy to look at now. Could be had for a package that wouldn't involve our "major" prospects. J.P Riccardi would be interested in college pitching like Tyler Lumsden and Ray Liotta for example.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) Ramon Sanchez is also 21, on the old side for Bristol, although coming from the DSL is abig change in and of itself. Ok thanks for the info on his age. By the sounds of it though, he could almost pitch in Kanny right now, if he continues dominating in Bristol with the stuff he's got. Our starting pitching depth keeps getting better.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) who would the cubs put in center, jerry hairston, that would make them worse, but im all for it :fthecubs Kotsay would be the center fielder if Patterson was moved, but if Patterson stayed at they dealt for Kotsay with prospects, K-Orey would continue to be the CF, while Kotsay moved to RF, and Burnitz to LF.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 11:30 PM) The Astros have 2B Chris Burke so I doubt they would be interested in Willie. I agree with you on Randa though. He's old and wouldn't cost much and the Reds will definately be looking to trade him. I doubt they expect a big return on him. It's hard to find a major league player on our 25 man roster that would fit with Houston right now. I just thought that it being Burke's 1st season and with Willie Taveras in CF, the Astros could use a guy like Harris who can get on base, cover the field well (a must at Minute Maid at CF) as a backup / platoon guy. This is unless they wanted someone like Ben Davis to possibly take over from Brad Ausmus next season but that's a longshot.

Batista's definitely an option worth looking at, he's had success in the closer role, don't have a great idea on his stuff though, but he's had success as a starter as well, so he could fill multiple roles for us. Lidge for Brian Anderson, Ray Liotta and Willie Harris? Still no on giving up McCarthy with Anderson at this stage. Joe Randa for Jeff Bajenaru plus a prospect or 2? And just say no to Vinny Castilla. Hitting worse than .217 in the past 2 months. That's worse than Joe Crede.
