  1. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 12:54 AM) You wanted us to sign a guy who had a lower average then Crede and no defense at all. No thanks. He's worth signing to a minor league deal, especially since he's moving away from Comerica, which is not a hitters park. And he could have moven back to 1B or even batted DH if he produced at Charlotte, at least given us some options for now in case of injuries, and the future.
  2. These are great, nothing like bringing back old memories.

Still trying to find a working torrent somewhere to download, but it's one hell of a movie.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) You know what people? ... The American people picked the person they thought was the best man for the job of POTUS. Get over it. But I'm allowed to criticize all I want right YASNY.
  5. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 03:04 AM) WOW, now that the first I heard of any of that..IMO should look to deal Piazza first a 36 year old C.. who was never able to throw runners out when he was younger. This IMO is a bad Idea.. The Mets still have not leanred from their msitakes have they? They are still paying for Vaughn salary and now they want to take on Sosa.. that is just plain stupid IMO. The Angels still could possibly be interested in Piazza, they were rumored to be a month or 2 ago, but I don't know how much money Arte Moreno will be willing to add to the payroll, but he could for a big - time crowd puller like Mike. Fred Wilpon and Omar Minaya are pulling out all the stops for the opening of the Mets Network in 2006. And you can thank them for the inflated pitching market we saw in free agency too.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) That's part of the learning process these kids have to go through. Too many want to dump a guy after a bad month. I wouldn't say it's a month, but I know you're in his corner YASNY along with a lot of great posters here like Rex. The thing is with Crede, he's not recognised as a good starter to a season, (stats would probably prove this), and Crede needs a good start to the year, otherwise there'll be calls to trade him, or trade for a guy who can hit for a higher average like Joe Randa possibly. But it's definitely a big year for him, his most important so far.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) Piazza is going to catch, from what I understand. Cameron apparently has decided he doesn't want to play RF, hence their discussions with Oakland of a Cameron for Eric Byrnes deal. The Mets have been also looking to dump Floyd's salary. Minaya and Sosa have a history. I could very well see this happening. That's unless the D-Backs get Byrnes for Jose Valverde first, which I couldn't believe Billy Beane would actually agree to. But a team like Houston could have interest in Cameron, and then the Mets could sign an outfielder like Maggs to replace him. And then there's the Sosa and Floyd rumors that you have mentioned, unless the Nationals or Orioles decide they need him as a "name" player.
  8. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) Why? We don't need him here now with the signing of AJ and Davis our C situation is fine. I didn't see any other team knocking down his door when he was released to sign him. On another post might have been one of the SoxFest ones, Burke was told he was going to play a lot more 3B, 1B and RF than he normally would catching. His versatility will come in handy for him, and will probably get him a bench spot with a good spring training.
  9. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 01:59 AM) we could send borchard down to make room for walker Walker's already on the 40 man along with Borch. I doubt either of them will be released from it, but at least Walker's contract is structured in a way that he won't hurt us if he's pitching down at Charlotte.
  10. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) I think the sox fill the biggest question mark. That is, getting a .300 type hitter for the top of the lineup. Even if it meant making the bullpen less strong [which it would still be strong even w/o marte]. While I like the additions of Pods and Dye, and think Uribe and Rowand will have similar 2005 like their 2004, few guys are locks to be .300 hitters. If the sox have the chance to add one, like Castillo, they prob. would and should do it. Adding a guy like Iguchi, would be another question mark. Ray would be decent. But for the money, Castillo is younger, better in the field, and a better type bat that the sox need and could use I'd still be a little worried about our bullpen though if we traded Marte. Hermanson hasn't had ERA lower than 4 for the past few years as a reliever, and he's moving from SBC Park to the Cell, while Vizcaino has been a little wild in previous seasons, although he is excellent against lefties. I suppose it depends on how much Ozzie is going to use the bullpen as well, that certainly comes into consideration, as we have upgraded our starting rotation, and our pen was quite underworked compared to other teams last season. I'm probably biased on the subject because Marte is one of my favorite players, and I'd love to see him get back to the form he showed a few years back, when he was throwing 98 MPH heaters and absolutely dominating hitters. That's why I'd like to see them sign Iguchi instead, but unless his agents decide to take the Sox's offer of 2 years @ 2 mill per, that's unlikely to happen. Maybe if we went after Durham instead, then the Sox may not have to give up Marte, KW should certainly look into other options, and I've got no doubts he's done that.
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 01:34 AM) I gotta agree with you, Flaxx. I saw this statement, and I was instantly :fyou, GWB. He got re-elected not because of Iraq specifically, but for larger security reasons. Exactly. In my mind, if there wasn't the world state on terror with Bin Laden etc. and if more national issues like the economy were more important, Kerry would have been voted in by America. We all heard the stories about how the Democrats thought they should wait until 2008, because they didn't want Kerry to have the job because of the current problems America is faced with.
  12. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 01:24 AM) Beck I agree with everything you said. The most important aspect of this trade is that it gives us a legitimate guy who can step into the leadoff spot should Pods have another 2004 like season. This team looks a hell of alot better with Pods in the 9 hole and Castillo in the 2 hole. I think Munoz could easily step in and be a decent lefty specialist (kind of like Kelly). Would he be as good as Marte? No way! But we have to do this deal... Don't tell Quickman that about Munoz. The Sox can go three ways at the moment, by either signing Iguchi, trading for a Castillo or Durham, or standing pat with Willie Harris and Wilson Valdez. KW needs to ask himself what will be more important to the team, a second baseman who can bat 2nd in the order, hit for a high average with a good OBP and get some steals, or one of the best lefty relievers in the game who could get back to his 2002-2003 form and post a sub 2.00 ERA. I'd be for signing Iguchi and keeping Marte, and I would have even signed Cairo instead if he was still available, but we may yet see Marte dealt. But I don't think Munoz or Cotts will step up in 2005 and post great numbers that can replace Marte's output, not this season anyway.
  13. If Bush thinks the war on Iraq solely got himself re-elected in the 2004 Elections, well that's just ludacrist quite frankly. And if you think the voters agreed with him and his cabinet's policies on Iraq, tell that to the families of those American Soldiers killed, and the Iraqi's whose lives still today are in danger from suicide bombings etc.
  14. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) Yep, now would be the time. He'll most likely be gone next year. I'd seriously doubt that. Even if the Sox don't pick up his $10 or $11 million option, I think Thomas can pick up his own $13 million option for 2006, he definitely won't get that kind of money elsewhere. Could impact on Konerko negotiations as well.
  15. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) Addison and I were like, its the infamous Steff, she's so after him today.. Although I don't think she noticed me. I saw all of you guys, but and I wore a name tag, but no hellos other than my buddy Ian. Didn't u see me Beastly? I was calling your name all over the Hyatt.
  16. Reggie Miller had 3 free throws to tie the game against the Magic......... he made only 2. What happened to the Clutch Master? 85-84 Magic with 5 secs left.
  17. QUOTE(Bullard @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) i dont think that prediction is very accurate. i am pretty sure i will not be in Birmingham. The starters will most likely be BMAC, Tracey, Honel, Etc. Etc. Well that's good to hear on your perspective there Bull. Are you hoping to make the rotation for the Knights, or do you think they may move you back to the pen Bull?
  18. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) First ballot Hall of Famer, Frank Thomas. This time next season, if one of Thomas' options is picked up, I may be inclined to agree with you. But the Big Hurt has shown in his career that he doesn't hit well when coming back from a major injury, and I don't really see any reason to change from that perspective. Hopefully he'll suprise us though, with the launching pad at the Cell and still put up a good OBP at least.

    Reed

Well now Bavasi doesn't look like he's going to deal Winn, so the Astros are going to have a find a run scoring outfielder elsewhere. But Winn looks like he'll start season in LF with Reed in CF, while Ibanez becomes the DH.
  20. I'll pick 2. Best all around player in the lineup would have to be Aaron Rowand, and even that's a risk because he's only produced for 1 season, after starting out slow for the 1st 2 months. Best pitcher would have to be Mark Buerhle, Garcia has got to go back to his early 2004 form with the Mariners before he can begin to challenge Mark for the #1 spot in the rotation in my mind.
  21. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) alright i didnt think about that one, but miguel cabrera could play third base allowing everett to play outfield One problem there. Mike Lowell and his big fat salary.
  22. All I'm going to say about Chad is that he needs real good protection to succeed. Whether the Bears can do that, I doubt it, unless they seriously upgrade at LT and one of their guard spots. And he won't be a fit for the West Coast offense Ron Turner is implementing either.
  23. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) yeah unless we plan on trading everett in the package to get castillo (if we get him) With Florida already having an outfield of Miggy Cabrera, Juan Pierre and Juan Encarcion, it's hard to really see them wanting Everett, unless they can get rid of Encarcion first. They need bullpen help, and another 5th starter could come in handy, since a lot of their starters get injured.
