    Weird Quirks?

    I like chewing things, but I can't stand gum.
  3. QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Ok everybody, is Ben Gordon the next Michael Jordan? (Honest question, I don't pay much attention to the Bulls anymore) From a non Bulls fan..... uhhhhhh no.
  4. Well our Prime Minister's in trouble.
  5. How interesting you say Garland gives up more than 8 runs when he has a bad start. In 2004, he only did that once against the Phillies in June. And using your stats there, Hermanson was definitely more prone to giving up the "big" inning.
  6. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) You still are clueless. ERA is a meaningless stat for a RP. Why is that so hard for you to figure out? Herm RP 0R 23, 1R 2, 2R 2, 4R 2 He failed 6 out of 29 appearances. I would call that effective. You can scale that to 12 out of 60 to see just how much. SSch RP 03: 0r 39, 1r 10, 2r 7, 3r 1, 4r 2 He failed 20 out of 59 appearances. I don't know if I would call that effective. Put another way, win, save, or hold is all that matters for a RP. The fact that Hermanson did his work in the NL & Schow did his in the AL does matter. But when you consider the health history of Schow in both ANA & CWS Hermanson is the lower risk. So it wouldn't matter if a relief pitcher had a really high ERA, so long as he didn't lose the game for the team. So if a pitcher had an ERA under 1, but had a record of say 1-2, he wouldn't be an effective relief pitcher? What about a guy like Shawn Estes (ok he's not a relief pitcher), but he had a record of 15-8 with an ERA of 5.84 for the Colorado Rockies. Would you say that he's an effective pitcher? It's called run support. What about Shawn Chacon? 1-9, 7.11 ERA, but 35 saves right? And look at those stats, Hermanson gave up 4 runs or more 2 times out of 29, while Shoe only did it 2 times out of 59. You say Shoe is the higher risk because he is injury prone. Well what are the chances Hermanson's ERA is going to be lower than 4.53 which is what is was for the Giants in the NL. What about Shoe's ERA dropping since he's moving away from the Coors Field of the AL?
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) A few players around him? Are you kidding? How is this always going to be his excuse? Roy WIlliams, Az-Hakim, Kevin Jones, pretty good offensive line, more than any of the Bears QBs had to work with. Give me a break once he gets something to work with. Brees has Tomlinson and Gates, besides that he has nothing. Brees has a worse offensive line, and worse overall WRs. Harrington is and never was in Brees' category talent wise. Harrington is a piece of s***! How ironic if Harrington goes to another team like Dallas, suddenly "gets" it, and Drew Brees does the opposite. Could very well happen.
  8. Ozzie Osbourne saying "Radio On" in the car in The Osbournes has a better voice than Ashlee, well pretty much anyone probably would.

  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) Scho wouldn't have converted 17 out of 20 saves though. No-one will never know that since he's never really been given a chance in that role. With the closers they have in Toronto (Koch, Frasor etc.), it wouldn't suprise me to see Shoe given a couple of oppurtunities there if he's in the bullpen.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) Correction 29.5-1 Now using more stats there, explain to us fellow SoxTalk users how that will impact on ........ oh I dunno make something up and relate it to the Sox somehow.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) Probably not. If we win the World Series in 4 games it may quiet a critic or two . . . What about 5, 6 or 7 games there Tex. Will you give a bit of leeway then?
  16. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) They have no idea who you are. Bit harsh there Greasy, or.... maybe not.
  17. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) *sigh* Nice #5 we have. Should I start mentioning the other #5's in this division?
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) Here we go again. What is most important for a RP is not surrendering runs. That's there job. If they need to walk a guy to get that job done so be it. Don't forget Hermanson walked 3 guys straight against the Dodgers in that end of season series that pretty much killed the season for the Giants.
  19. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) No one's suggesting he be the 5th starter. All I'm saying is that as a starter he performed as good in the NL as Garland did in the AL. That's a good thing to have. Likewise he served as a closer for SFG. Another good thing to have. So we have a reasonable option as a backup starter & backup closer in a very dependable long relief guy. I really hope JonG improves in 2005. I would like him to prove to the world that he can really be a solid #3/#4 guy. This is really his last chance. If he doesn't do it this year then he'll be nothing more than a #5. And that's the difference. Hermanson in the NL vs. Garland in the AL. If they both pitched in different leagues, Garland would have much better stats.
  20. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Did you really want to go there? JonudyG 04: June 6.82ERA, 7HR, 5GS, 229BA Aug 6.14ERA, 12HR, 6GS, 297BA Jonudy's Sep wasn't much better. Garland in May and July. May - 3-1, 3.51 ERA July - 2-2, 3.92 ERA. Doesn't it say something that Hermanson wasn't a starter in 2002 or 2003, and when he forced to be the 5th starter in San Fran, he was moved out of the role by the end of the season.
  21. Hermanson's numbers as a starter in June the July, the last months he was one before becoming the closer; June - 5.05 ERA, 5 HR's in 6 games, .271 BAA July - 4.80 ERA, 4 HR's in 5 games, .269 BAA.
