QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) Yes, Hinton was behind first Nelson, then Fielder, but he didn't move up because he wasn't good enough. He spent two very average years in low A and then finally had a good season in high A. He is just now "earning" a shot at AA. Let's also keep in mind that he will be going from one of the best hitting parks in the Minor Leagues to one of the worst. Exactly, so it's really an important season for Hinton. If he can hit for B-Ham in AA, his stock will be much higher at the end of this season than it is now. He's got some holes in his swing that he needs to work on apparently as well.

I'd be willing to bet that Iguchi in his 1st season would definitely have better numbers than Kaz Matsui, and the Mets are paying him $21 million over 3 years. Doesn't look too bad when you consider it from that perspective.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) More like a team option / player option situation to get that done. Anyone else concerned that basically we are the only ones bidding? Could be another Takatsu, maybe not. I just cannot get excited about this either way. I think the teams that have needed a starting infielder, and are willing to pay for one, basically filled that need earlier in the off-season like the Red Sox did with Renteria and the Angels with God AKA Orlando Cabrera.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) If that's true, this deal will get done pretty quickly. That's my thinking too. If KW's smart, he'll put in a team option for 2007 at about $4 million, which could be a bargain if Iguchi really hits well here.

Here's the post; Mr. Zero or somebody else can convert this article from Japanese if they want. http://www.daily.co.jp/baseball/2005/01/21/158567.shtml EDIT: I also changed the topic title to make it easier to understand.

Get Pat or Kenny to read Hilton's biography instead.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 08:26 AM) I'd be absolutely shocked if the Indians break .500. I'm probably one of the people here who think that Indians will challenge again. For me it depends on the production they'll get our of their 4th and 5th starters though. Lee, Elarton or the Japanese Porn Star, need to have good season for the Tribe to get over .500, which I still think is very possible with their young offense.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) This guy called the Lee trade "barely even". I guess KW should have held out for "hugely even". "Barely even" is a disgrace! :rolly Of course he's going to say that. What he doesn't know or probably didn't take the time to actually research :finger, was the trade allowed us to sign A.J Pierzynski and Orlando Hernandez, filling the 2 most important holes on this team.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:52 AM) i definitely agree. I spent the entire weekend with people from this board and had an awesome time. Heads and I spent the weekend in Tehran as we planned. A fun weekend to be had it was I tell you.

As I'm reading this thread, I can't believe you guys waited 3 hours for a pizza. Man I would have just walked out of the place quite frankly, of course the pizza down here probably isn't as good.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) At this point I wouldn't mind KW bringing in Larkin... I think they still need a backup IF But Larkin isn't going to be a backup IF though, if he was willing to, he would have signed with Washington already.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) What are people in Australia's views of the War these days? We were really never for it in the first place. There are a still a lot of issues to be sorted out, with Bush wanting more international troops in Iraq, while our Prime Minister John Howard would rather those troops be more concentrated in South - East Asia.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) It's gotta be the hair :headshake The worst thing is, high school kids over there are really into his music.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) When I had posted it originally I had to stop the animation about 3/4 through. Later I watched the whole thing and wish they hadn't of added that last scene. I guess there is some social commentary about video games and violence, but :headshake . 90% is funny s***. Especially if you have played any of the on-line games. I swear that describes 1/2 the guys. The line where he said he would be killing noob's all day just to take his rank from #3 to #1 had me laughing almost out of my chair. But yes, the ending wasn't really needed, you could think of so many better alternate endings.
-
If you sign Larkin though, where does he hit in the lineup? Does he takes Willie's spot in the #9 hole?
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) Kenny G & Earth, Wind and Fire are on Jay Leno right now..... as if that wasn't bad enough -- They are playing a cover of Outkast's "I like the way you move" You know Kenny G is very popular in China, very, very popular. Believe me I know from 1st hand experience.

He's not a good enough fielder to be an everyday SS from now on, and that isn't going to move him up in Ozzie's eyes.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) I sure as hell would considering he signed with the Mariners. Damn it hasn't been a good day.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) DBAH0, you're killing me over here. :headshake Willie hit .262 with a .343 OBP...in the neighborhood of .270, but not quite there, and he was above that .340 clip. More importantly(to me atleast), he hit .279 .366 .701 against RHP last year. I'm not sure there is a reason at all he should not start against RHP...save the money we are offering to Iguchi and use it on someone at the deadline. Meh I was close enough, only going off the top of my head here. But yeah if the Sox aren't going to sign Iguchi, at least try to sign an infielder who can hit LHP, Miggy Cairo was that guy, but he'll be at Shea Stadium in 2005.
-
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) Any chance this kid could out perform Willie for 2B or will he strictly be a back up? No chance in hell. I know there are a lot of Willie bashes but the guy hit .270 and had an OBP of almost .340, which was a LOT better than other players we had last season. If someone's going to replace Willie as the veryday 2B, it'll be Iguchi, Castillo or Durham. And I wouldn't count much into those Dominican Stats either.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Really? I think sele is a piece of s***. I would sign him to a minor league contract and that is about it. I wouldn't be at all supised if he had success for the Marlins though. When he pitched in Seattle, he was excellent there, and he's had real success in pitcher's parks before.
