  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:00 PM) Thank God. There's no reason not to extend to the 7th year of guaranteed control. Hell, even if he was "ready" (like Byrant) you hold him out the extra two months that's just how you play it from the club's long term perspective. Yeah, it's something like May 15th. A little too inside baseball for me.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) It's better to trade a player one year early, than one year too late The White Sox could not really risk him getting injured or losing any trade value at the start of a rebuild Now for other domino's to fall in Melky, Frazier, Abreu, Gonzalez, etc. I would put Quintana on the block and see what offers you get for him And it's better to trade a guy and be bad than to be bad and watch him walk, which would almost certainly have happened without a rebuild.
  3. Per Rick, Moncada will start in AAA. Not a ready product. Really good stuff from him.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) To be completely honest, I always envisioned the Sox getting a bigger package in return if they ever traded Sale. I guess it was unrealistic. Moncada is fantastic, it's just that this feels a little top heavy. I thought there would be more depth. That doesn't make this a bad trade, just not the "blow your socks off" kind. They wanted more at the trade deadline, but they were never going to get it. This seems like about as good as they can do, especially considering Moncada's price to Boston.
  5. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) Kopech is just as likely to blow out his arm as Sale is. I have not seen any proof or correlation of innings pitched to injuries. Not even worth discussing unless there is new evidence or research brought forward. We now have a lot less money in Kopech.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) I'd say it is equally reasonable to worry about Moncada disappointing. Both things are possible. Pitchers get hurt and #1 prospects disappoint. In the end, that does nothing to change the calculus of this deal either way. Depends how you define "disappoint". He could be disappointing but still be a solid player for multiple years. That's his upside. If it's Garcia-type upside and Moncada winds up sucking, everyone is fired.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) And the award for biggest jump to conclusions goes to...
  8. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) Somehow posts like these are not ridiculous but posts saying that Moncada is completely unproven and far from a sure thing are? In this day and age, it is more than reasonable to think a pitcher is going to get hurt. So many of them do.
  9. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) Yeah if Moncada is not as advertised we lose this deal big. I had a feeling the front office would blink first and they did. They declare Moncada an untouchable due to his "ranking" when he was the guy they wanted to move all along between Devers and Benintendi. Why does this front office insist on taking guys who failed in their first ML action? They made the same mistake with Davidson. I'm surprised there isn't a lot more of this on the board today. Proud of most of soxtalk.com for being more level headed than this.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) From that video the obvious comp is Robbie Cano, right? The comps are Cano but faster.
  11. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) Alright, so, who was the last Sox hitting prospect to succeed with the team? Yikes. Uh.... Gordon Beckham?
  12. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) I wouldn't put him over Fulmer and he's probably not as good a hitter as Collins. He didn't do that great in A ball this past season. Yeah, I'm still holding out for Fulmer.
  13. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) Moncada and Tim Anderson in the IF...man that's nice That is promising. Time to move the old guys if that's our core going forward.
  14. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) Nationals had the better offer (Robles/Giolito) Currently this is a lopsided trade in the Red Sox's favor. Time will tell. I'll have what he's having. This is a great package for Sale.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) He'd be a great closer, because Jesus Saves. You win. I'm serious.
  16. QUOTE (aboz56 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) I would have asked for Mantle, Ruth and Koufax. Depends whether or not Jesus Christ can pitch
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) That's nice. And I'm sure if the Sox could have gotten that they would have too. I would have asked for a multi-team deal where the White Sox get Trout, Harper, and Moncada.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) Except there is a pretty solid chance that none of these kids are White Sox this year, at least until mid-season or so. So you will see be watching Avi Garcia play daily. At least we know something special is coming. That's enough for me.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) Sale cut up jerseys because they were uncomfortable. And it was a pattern supposedly. One of those is slightly more insane, neither excusable. Sounds like Kopech's got TWTW
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) And as much as I enjoyed watching Chris pitch, I also didn't get too excited to watch Chris dominate only to get a no decision or take the loss because we can't score runs. I'd rather watch us develop and lose than be "mired in mediocrity." I just want so badly to be excited about a young position player.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) So is Moncada top prospect for Sox or is Hawkins? Moncada is the top prospect in baseball.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) Let's wait and see. Also, no one is a bigger hothead than Sale. Kopech broke his hand fighting with his roommate.
