The Padres have finished better than 16 GB exactly once in the last decade. Cash flow, maybe, but taxes? Not quite. Someone said taxes aren't different in CA than they are in IL. That was factually incorrect and proven so. No one said they wouldn't sign Machado because of taxes.

And when they relocate to Montreal or Vegas within the next decade, you'll have to find a new team again. Yeah, if they miss out on Machado AND the rebuild ends up not working out, I'm going to have a hard time following the organization after 2023 or so. No. Kimbrel makes sense for the Cubs but they aren't spending. On another note he's a really good pitcher. Pretty crazy that Machado, Harper, Kuechel and Kimbrel are sitting out there on February 13.
