  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 07:58 AM) So put Dunn in AAA? It doesn't f***ing matter where you put him as long as he's not on the MLB roster. Hopefully he'd sign with a new team so the Sox would at least get a tiny bit of salary relief even if it's just a few hundred K. I've said JorDanks is a better bet for this team, a better fit going forward, and has more value to us than Dunn for a while now. Of course the Wite led SS (2K5) mob has threatened me, tried to smash all my windows, etc. but it's still true. They're all still wrong, and it's still true. JorDanks is EARNING a spot on this team. Give it to him.
  2. If Johnson plays 2B we have a lot of depth at that spot to trade. Semien would represent insurance at multiple positions, 2B, SS, 3B. Davidson's done some things in Spring, but for all we know our 2016 3B is Gillaspie or Semien. Maybe even someone else entirely. I think our C isn't even in our organization, nor is our SS, our second DH/1B to go with Abreu, and we probably will end up with another OF by then as well. I think a lot of these pieces are going to come from the outside. Looking at our season's projected roster of younger & arb-eligible (pre-FA) players, Flowers, Nieto?, Abreu (basically an MLB FA), L Garcia, Gillaspie, Davidson, DeAza, Eaton, A Garcia all came outside of the organization. And looking at our starting staff, we traded for Danks when he was a prospect on another team and picked up Q as a spect. And Jones is probably going to be the only homegrown guy in the pen to start the season.
  3. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 06:27 AM) How can you forget Jared Mitchell? Buddy Bell isn't going to give up until he's hitting third and a perennial AL All-Star. What's if he's hitting turd as a perineum All-Star? Does that count?
  4. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) I think you misunderstand the term "empty" respective to batting average. It tends to be used for a singles-only type hitter. While the average might be high, it is relatively empty if the player fails to hit home runs and other extra base hits. Dunn is the opposite. He'll have a low batting average, but it won't be "mostly empty." In an atmosphere of declining home run totals around the league, Dunn is 4th in baseball in HR over the past 2 seasons. Yeah I guess you're right. What I really meant to say is that Adam Dunn sucks my balls and so does his batting average. It would be nice if he could do more than one thing on a baseball field. Here's hoping the Sox start him in LF on Opening Day if he's still here. That way The Sodfather can make sure the OF out there & warning track is muddy and full of potholes. And the Sox can start Paulino over Sale because he's hittable, and they can pitch every hitter so as to hit the ball over there to Dunn & make him run around. Sacrifice one game for the benefit of the team, like Hawk says, can't be afraid to lose a ballgame.
  5. Per MLTBR Houston has inquired on every available 1B. Dunn blows but who knows, maybe there's a ray of hope there. Please Houston, take this big pile of crap away from here for good.
  6. ^There would have to be another deal to make that work though where the Sox trade an OF. I'd be curious to know what the Twins would give up for DeAza, especially if the Sox threw something decent in with him. Supposedly they are thinking about dealing some spects due to slow ticket sales.
  7. I like him too but I don't think there's a fit. Maybe some kind of 3-way where the Yanks get Beckham, Sox get Tabata, and Pirates get Cervelli with prospects/pieces thrown in to even things out. Maybe that's fair though as it is, since Cervelli is pretty decent, Tabata's only good when he's on the field, and Beckham has a nickname that used to be cool.
  8. L Eaton CF R Semien 2B R Garcia RF R Abreu 1B L DeAza LF R Ramirez SS L Gillaspie 3B R Viciedo DH R Flowers C In a more sane world, this would be our everyday lineup to open the season. Not a lot of offense but there's at least youth and control, some speed and a little balance, and the guys who are trade candidates are in RBI spots.
  9. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) Maybe someone with more pitching knowledge can tell me what the Sox see in Paulino. I watched the game this morning. Geeez looks like the guy was steering the heck out of the ball. Looks like a lot of upper body and less driving with the legs. Didn't see much command. Fast ball was even straighter that Matt Thortons, and breaking ball wasn't that impressive. Sure he threw scoreless innings today, but look who it was against?. I'll tell ya....... I can see a team with a potent lineup really teeing off on this guy. Someone know something else that can prove me wrong?? NOT LOOKING for controversy . Just saying that from what I saw, that I hope that this guy does not make part of our starting rotation any time soon. I haven't seen him but that doesn't sound like the old Paulino. At worst, the old Paulino is a stopgap. At best he brings in a prospect around the deadline or over the offseason. But if he's going to be a gascan then no biggie, $1.75M guaranteed to him including the buyout, just cut him and call up Rienzo. He's a shot in the dark really.
  10. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 01:10 AM) I think Semien has a chance to make you forget all about Gordon. In all fairness, so does anyone else capable of about 2 1/2 weeks of consistent baseball out of the 2B position. The nice thing about Semien is he can't break your heart. If he's garbage he was never rated that highly anyway; if he's a bench player you've got at least something, nothing to be upset about; if he's average he's probably what you're expecting and you are happy about that. And if he overachieves? You're thrilled. The Sox aren't going to be more or less forced to sit around for 4 1/2 years with their thumbs up their asses waiting to see whether or not they need to make an upgrade.
  11. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) 2003 Esteban Loaiza redux would be nice. I'd easily settle for 2005 El Duque or 2010? Freddy Garcia, just get me half a season plus until Beck is ready.
  12. Hmm, which one to use, cut or uncut? Both have their advantages and drawbacks. All I know is if I'm the one standing there with wood in my hand then I'm probably pretty jittery not knowing which balls are coming. One other positive in this situation is that Felipe is somewhat hairy.
  13. There you go pettie4sox I hope you're happy now. Your terrible idea of having the fans buy this guy out because the ownership is too cheap to do it has taken hold.
  14. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) Not gonna shop it to different junkyards and see if you can get >$0? Sure. But I'm not going to hold out for something unrealistic. I'll take all the offers I can within a reasonable period of time & go with the best one. I won't try to keep it around for a few more months & pay insurance on it just because I want an extra hundred dollars.
  15. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) In your scenario, X=0 If I couldn't get anything for my junked car & was forced with the option of either sinking further resources into it or blowing it up and moving on, hell f***ing yeah I'd refrain from trying to pump it's value up through $$$ or in Dunn's case plate appearances, and I'd just move on. I'd blow it up myself assuming I could get away with it. Sometimes there are restrictions on things like explosives, like whether you can or can't own them, when and where you can detonate them, etc.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) Yeah but if we're talking about literally eating poo, it needs to be reserved for the extremes. Agreed. However, consider mixing chocolate pudding with corn starch, adding some yellow food coloring and pieces of canned kernel corn, and then consider squeezing the result from a pastry frosting gun so that it looked like poo. That wouldn't be so bad. Who would really know? I'd definitely eat fake poo if Dunn hit .240+ again over a large sample size of ABs against both sides of the plate, OR if he could actually be part of a quality platoon without noticeably suffering in his stats vs. RHP given the extra time on the bench & seeing less live pitching.
  17. If you notice, unlike wite I can make a zillion different analogies & none of them ever have to involve washing machines. Poor washing machines, why won't you just leave them alone?!?!?!
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) Your logic would be more apt to blowing up your car because the muffler was dragging on the ground. If the exhaust system prevents me from passing the emissions testing and there money it would take to fix the problem is prohibitive given the worth of the car, and if the choice is to sell the piece of junk to the junkyards for X amount, or sell it to a pyromanic for a higher amount who just wants to blow the thing up, then yes, I could blow up a car for something related to a muffler issue.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) I'm eating a turd sandwich if Viciedo turns into a superstar. That's fair. Dunn has no chance in hell at 50HR & Viciedo probably has no chance at superstardom. Dunn does have a chance at a mostly empty and very low batting average & some HRs in the 30ish range with a whole massive f***load of otherwise pissed away PA to go with it. Viciedo OTOH has a chance to at least be a useful offensive player, but doesn't walk enough and isn't athletic enough to be a star.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) Jesus loves Adam Dunn. Yes, but that's the whole "turn the other cheek thing," and the idea that "the Last Shall Be First" and so on. So basically in Heaven the All-Star ballot is backwards & you get brownie points for rolling over for the other pitcher & hitting right directly into the shift. So that's great for Jesus & great for Dunn if Heaven does exist especially since there's all that jello there for his dumb fatass but for a Sox fan it sucks my f***ing balls.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) So now you're comparing the White Sox front office and brain trust to crackhead parents. That makes perfect sense. Yes. BTW Jesus loves everyone..... EXCEPT FOR YOU!!!!
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) If he hits 50 bombs this year, you will be expected to record yourself eating an actual turd sandwich. It must be posted on the FutureSox YouTube channel for our collective viewing pleasure. And so then what will you do if he does the same s*** he's done here for 3 years, and the Sox get nothing, and end up taking PA from players who would benefit more? What do you do then? Huh? Huh? What do you do then Mr Eminor3D?
  23. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) TUC this all can be solved if you fork over $15 million dollars to the White Sox. Until you're willing to do bankroll the DFA Dunn fan club, no one will take you seriously. Your posts are beyond brutal at this point. Yeah by that logic I should go ahead and pay the rent & electric bills for a couple kids, fill their cupboards too, just because I disagree with the way their crackhead parents choose to spend their money. Right. Brilliant logic here.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) In 2013, Dunn had a .762 OPS, Viciedo had a .731 OPS, and DeAza had a .728 OPS. So why exactly is it a bad thing that Dunn is taking PA from DeAza and Viciedo? Taking PA away from an inferior hitter and giving them to a better hitter is generally accepted as a pretty good strategy. On a team where every single hitter on the team sucked, you are singling out the guy who sucked the least and demanding that the Sox pay him $15 million just to get him off the team. It's like there's a entire group of short people and singling out the tallest of them and deciding you hate his f***ing guts because he's short. It's like singling out a guy who just had his 65th birthday and deciding you hate his f***ing guts because he's old. Do I need to go on? No, because you don't have a clue as it is. You pick one measure, go look at some of the others. Then after you do & realize you're wrong, post in another thread about something else instead of here about the same crap everyone else keeps going on about.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 12:57 PM) Really cheap. Especially last year's model since he changed numbers. The only value in a Dunn jersey is in the mind of the person burning it. And I for one would much rather burn a "32" Dunn jersey than a "44" Dunn jersey. And the more "32" jerseys destroyed, the rarer they become.
