  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) Jordan Danks has no value. The value of nothing can never be greater than the value of nothing. Danks > Mitchell, Walker, Thompson, etc. ATM because he's the only one currently good enough to even play at AAA, much less in the Major Leagues. Jordan Danks has become a solid 4th OF candidate, cheap, under control, lefty stick, a little pop & experience. He's a potential piece for 2-3 years just as he is, until he hits his 2nd arb year. Dunn's future value here is nothing, and he's not bringing back anything either later on. Jordan Danks is a better piece for us than Dunn. All f***in day. Now I see I know exactly when you're trying to do. You think I'm some troll, like some big dumb monkey at the zoo. And you're standing there behind the glass pounding your chest laughing, thinking I'm going to go all apes*** and run around angry and fuming until eventually I either run out of energy and go lay down and go to sleep or some trainer comes in and pops me with a dart. But that's only half true, and when you eventually succeed in your goal of getting me to quit posting it just happens because I have to do that anyway & not because you've really done something special by egging me on. And now I'm going to go throw my s*** around but just you wait wite I'm not done with you OR Dunn yet. That motherf***er is going to get cut if I have my say in this here & knowing how Hahn reads my posts & takes me advice I know this is going to happen and if it doesn't goddamnit I'm going to find that guy and put rocks in his f***in pancakes.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) HAHAHAHA. And I appreciate the line breaks. For the crazy Jesus man troll: The Sox tried very hard to unload Dunn and his salary but if you are getting no salary relief or a player in return, why just cast him off just because? It makes zero business sense so they hung onto him. Because then you are forced to dump a more valuable piece. This isn't rocket surgery here. Dunn's so f***ing bad that if there's even a legitimate 4th OF prospect behind him like Jordan Danks it's a block. But he's blocking PT from ADA & DV. And it's because the Sox are being stubborn and idiotic OR it's because they're aware of all of this & are only waiting to the end of ST to cut him, hoping someone comes along with either a proper return for ADA/DV or will give them a few scraps for Dunn.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) You bought a microwave that cooks too hot for $150. You hang on to it, because you need a microwave and it's yours already. You know you can put up with it for another 6 months or so. Suddenly, someone is willing to give you $30 because "screw it, a microwave that cooks to hot is better than no microwave at all." You want to get a new microwave, or you've learned how to cook, or whatever other lazy analogy you want to come up with. Multiply this by 100,000, and it's the exact same scenario. If you already have it, you may as well keep it. Again, yelling on Soxtalk is going to do nothing to make the Sox get rid of him or whatever, and most of us here happen to like Dunn, appreciate the work he puts it, realize he has been a disappointment as a free agent, but want to get something - even saving money - out of him. There is a some value there. You are pretty much steering your own boat here bud. At some point in time, rather than a leader or a voice of reason, you become the crazy bearded dude on the corner yelling about Jesus. See this is why I love you and hate you all at the exact same time.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) Sorry, I am having a hard time finding these facts you are using. Pointing out that Adam Dunn has a beard, is left handed, was an investor in the Dallas Buyer's Club, and strike out are facts I am already aware of. Please, inform me of these facts that prove he is a bad hitter. Oh and this too. I posted all kinds of stats in other threads but you just ask me to post them again. Balta even tried to get to me to ignore 1/3 of Dunn's Sox tenure and ADA's first half season, trying to compare the two, and I did that, which was obviously totally unfair, and statistically ADA still kicked his ass. I don't even care. Baseball reference is your best friend. Oh, and you tried to comp him to Thome and Thome at the end of his career also kicked his ass & no one wanted him, and the Sox passed at $1M while the Twins got him for a little over $2M IIRC. And Thome's numbers beat the s*** out of Dunn. The truth is that Dunn has been soooo f***ing abysmal that there is absolutely no way anyone can look at his Sox numbers and make an arugment that he should be playing over any younger piece which could be part of the future or be traded for a piece of the future. Even a s***ty ADA or DV brings back more & the only reason you treade either of those guys more would be because the FO thinks they're just going to get worse this season. You don't trade either of those guys for Dunn.
  5. Come back to the right side SS2k5 I'm much happier agreeing with you. Same to your wite, just admit it, we're all better off if Dunn is just gone.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) So basically you just admitted the whole meme of no chance of getting something for Dunn is wrong. Glad you finally came around. My argument is we're not getting enough for him to make it worth holding onto him. And no, I don't believe we'd get as good a deal for Dunn as the Cubs did for Soriano, but the better the deal the happier I'd be. I'd absolutely settle for someone taking him on at $1M for an INTL bonus slot and the equivalent of another team's Storm Throne or Tony Bucciferro. If you actually pull your head out enough to think for a second, and view Dunn with his age and on his slide compared to Viciedo and DeAza at their ages and team control, chances are even a plummeting DV or ADA brings back more at the deadline than the best Dunn we've seen here on the Sox, and it's absolutely certain that a quality year from either ADA or DV brings back something to potentially get excited about or at least look forward to. The idea of dumping a better asset because you're too f***ing stubborn and dumb to cut your losses should be torn apart by any board of knowledgeable sports fans. And there should be no reason to have to explain why. (something posted on twitter) (pic of something) (agreement with wite/shoutout to wite) (something else on twitter)
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 09:40 AM) Adam Dunn hits right handed pitching. He's useless to you because you fail to understand that point, which really makes me question whether or not you had a bad encounter with Adam Dunn at some point in your life and this is your idea of getting back at him when in reality, he's never going to see this. Your best bet is to go to the stadium and boo him, which plenty of other people already do, and then he hits a home run and gives the Sox a lead only to see Lindstrom give it up in the 8th and then Konerko or Viciedo or whoever strikes out in the 9th to end the game. Steve Martin is ironing a f***ing cat. Your argument is still invalid. Great so if he's a platoon option then maybe the Sox would only have to eat 85% of that deal & can save a little over $2M. Excellent. Even better. Cubs got a better prospect than anything I'd hope for Dunn, so maybe we could even get a guy with a pulse. If so, wonderful, just absolutely wonderful. You know you have a strong argument when all you get in response consistently is a compete overlooking of facts, stats, truth, etc. and pictures of Steve Martin & tweets from SS2k5.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) Other than the fact that the Sox would then be major league shortstop-less, yes. It isn't an easy position to fill. Even the organizations that are always listed as the best systems, STL, TB, are always throwing retreads in to fill that position. If you have a good one, trading them, unless it is a crazy haul, is very dangerous. Agree but what are we looking at here realistically as far as the official beginning of our contention window where we start signing FAs? I'm thinking 2015 is a little optimistic, probably more like 2016 & we start looking to trade prospects for proven players around the 2015 deadline if we're in it & we start looking at FA deals over the following offseason. If that's so, Alexei's probably not in our plans for that window & the Sox are probably going to be looking very hard at another SS to bring in alongside Anderson. But that said, maybe the Sox feel Semien can hang there, or Sanchez, at least as a 2-3 year solution.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 08:29 AM) The Cubs saved about $7 million in the Soriano trade and $2.5 million on Carlos Zambrano. Because Soriano is still somewhat useful and Z was an Ozzie project. Cubs still ate about $39M of the $46M remaining and they'd been trying to do this deal for a long time. Cubs ate $15.5M of the $18M owed to him. In total the Cubs ate about 85% of Soriano's deal and 86% of Zambrano's deal. If the Sox ate 85% of Dunn's deal they'd eat $12.75M leaving the acquiring team paying $2.25M. Which is probably a little much for Dunn, maybe $1.5M is more likely, meaning the Sox would eat 90%, 4% more than Z and 5% more than Zambrano. So yeah you win nothing and your candy s*** I will have you know mixes very poorly with overrated imported beer. And Morgan Freeman doesn't drink that crap, he drinks Miller High Life Light with me & reads me stories while I drift off to sleep.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) Alexei would be such a perfect fit for the Yankees. Honestly I am surprised it hasn't happened yet. What would they give us? We'd need something good back. Maybe their top catching spect and a pitching spect. If you do that then Franklin for Viciedo actually makes some sense, because you try Franklin at SS and if he doesn't work there you either move him back to 2B when you deal Beckham of if neither Gillaspie/Davidson can stick at 3B he becomes an option there as well. Semien still isn't blocked, he just fills in wherever Franklin can't.
  11. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) One of Alexei or Bacon is toast there Champion Toast & Bacon, buckets of Semien, Dunn the tomato? What an awful sandwich.
  12. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Ugh...Adam Dunn.... what a major disappointment. Honestly, I am tired of reading about his struggles. He has been a bust and an expensive one at that. For whatever reason, this signing did not pan out. I can't wait to move in a different direction and for his sake- either be in a different uniform- or retired from the game. Agree. I'd much rather not have to hate the guy anymore. Here, good riddance. On any other team, good luck. The signing made great sense at the time. Given his career accomplishments the pay wasn't at all out of sight. The draft pick cost wasn't even worth talking about. Knowing his game it was reasonable to assume a regression during the contract at some point, probably Year 4, but not a severe one. Didn't work out, too bad so sad, cut the cord, send him elsewhere and play the younger controllable types, because even if they are not seen by the FO as being part of the 2016 team and beyond, they could at least bring back something that hopefully will be assuming they have quality seasons. And betting on Dunn for a quality season, salary relief, anything at all is completely foolish. Even the Cubs understand this, dumping off Zambrano and Soriano just to get them out of the clubhouse and off the field taking up playing time and out of the minds of the fanbase. Turn the f***ing page already. I can almost hear Bob Seger singing it now as we all wave tearful goodbyes full of joy watching that gigantic unfortunate mistake finally GTFO of here.
  13. QUOTE (GallonsOfSemien @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 06:06 PM) Will Semien swallow up the competition at 2B? Or is the job Beckham's for at least a few more months? Those peckers in Toronto are looking at Beckham, so are those Yanks. Maybe Hahn thinks Gordo is a big fat bust and unloads him on AA or Cashman? Maybe they think Beckham can fill their gaps? Semien would make it up here then. And we don't need to wait months for something we don't even want, we should protect ourselves and just unload our junk now in safety. All of this can happen within the next two weeks, before the season even starts, all it takes is one solid move and one magical night.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) What if greg775 was just one of Hahn's Assistant GMs trying to neutralize the PR around all the worst things that happen to the White Sox? Think about it: he supports everything the rest of us hate, and dumps on everything we like. He's not a troll, he's an entity of universal balance. I love the thought but's let remember how greg was 100% anti-Rios immediately and as a result he looked like an absolute genius during the "all-in" year. There was no need for him to have been negative then, he should have been supportive. But still maybe you're right, and he was negative about Rios then because he needed to join the party, needed to get as many people on his side as possible for what was soon to become his Alamo for Ozzie. But Greg is terrific regardless and it is important to remember all the great things he's said about Mark, AJ, and the Hawkaroo over all these years. And if those comments were meant for balance then what a sad f***in state man, seriously.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:40 AM) "Hey guys, should we go after Ervin Santana?" Bah gawd how did I miss this precious little gemstone? Yes, that is exactly what happened. You fought hard against that & it was probably your single greatest victory as a member of this team and here you are mocking it? If your not then I apologize. If you do realize what you have done and the hand you have played in us *not* signing Ervin Santana then maybe you can appreciate about 1/10th of a percent of the joy I'd feel if I could help Hahn see the light here and toss this guy out with the trash. Even Keppinger's playing ball and getting hurt, that's the kind of guy who you want around anyway, one that will take one for the team. Where's the Dunn injury report? Come on, what are you waiting for Rick? Dump the guy.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) Back to the competing thing, if the Sox win 86 games, is anyone going to be too surprised? Yes because then Hahn will have become a God. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) On the flip side, if they only win 72 games, is anyone going to be surprised? No. I think they'll have underachieved by a few games probably, but the difference between 72 wins and 78 wins may be as simple as a quality Felipe Paulino and both Boggs & Belisario working out very well versus 2 holes in the pen and a revolving door in the 5th spot.
  17. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) "Quick, I need a team of folks to hit the Applebees in Lawrence, Tulsa, and um...how about New London. Find out which players make them smile. And see if Ozzie is available to help with the polling." Adam Dunn would be a good fat waitress at Applebees. Then he could add a little TexMex to spice up some of that "veteran wisdom" he's so great for. I don't think I want Dunn giving advice to anyone on this team.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) This is a fun thing to think about. "Ok, ok, greg775 likes him, so we know we'll have the fans from Lawrence behind us. Ahh s***, here's a lengthy one from witesoxfan, get ready for a dumpfest. WHo gave that asshole access to FanGraphs anyway? Oh it's free? Oh. Well whatever." That's exactly how it goes. Whenever Greg makes a comment even slightly contradictory toward Ozzie or something Ozzie did during his tenure here you pull on that alarm and you do it because it's a good way to make sure you hit your quota for your annual earthquake drill.
  19. As far as I can tell the only member of the Sox FO who we can all definitively say does not read this board is Brooks Boyer because all his ideas are terrible and every spring this board lights up like a Christmas tree with better ideas he never uses, instead opting to go with Swisher worms and painful 15 min long infomercials featuring a gunshy Nate Jones playing hackey sack or whatever he was going to do, I don't know because I had to turn the TV off immediately before it killed me. Hahn on the other Hahnd hahaha he reads all my posts & thinks they're awesome. Kenny too.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) Yes, for the most part. I like Adam Dunn and he seems like a hard worker and a nice guy, but I haven't been happy with him as a player. He is what he is though. And no he's come to accept that. Ha. Why haven't we cut this guy again? Hahn (DJ voice) you've got WORK TO DOOOOOOOO
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) What part of Adam's Dunn game surprises you? The home runs, the walks, or the strike outs? Nothing, none of that, just the fact that he's still on the roster. Wite, to be honest here, and to bare my soul a bit right now, I just feel like the Sox FO reads these threads here (not so much Buddy Bell though) and especially Hahn almost certainly reads these threads. And if so then Hahn almost certainly reads every one of my posts and takes them quite seriously. Now I don't know the man or the myths, only a tiny bit of the legend, and so I don't know exactly how he would view my posts, but I do think it's likely he sees them as coming from a member of the Sox family, or a close friend or trusted advisor. And so I feel like by showing support for doing the right things like dumping Dunn I'm just playing my own little small part, for the better of the organization as a whole. I'm just trying to make this world better one day at a time here, that's all. But it's like with you, it always feels so cold, like a deli, and I don't know where the counter is or always who is working behind it and who is standing in front of it looking for something, but it's always like one of us is waiting on the other, and like one of us always has each other's number. And sometimes one of us is a turkey but actually probably not a turkey or chicken for me, just beef mostly, corned beef probably, but the fact is Adam Dunn sucks my balls and I hope he vanishes from this roster.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 08:34 AM) So Dunn has no value, but Viciedo somehow does. As you say, the teams can see the stats. If Jack Z called up Hahn and offered Ackley straight up for Dunn Hahn wouldn't have countered with Franklin he'd have countered with delirious shouts of joy and a massive coke party f*** fest MCed by Paul Konerko himself.
  23. More like don't feed the donkeys, starve them out, send them into the Arizona desert looking for water and peyote, maybe they'll come back with a new approach to hitting because obviously nothing the Sox have tried has been working.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) UC, you are a funny man. You are a great grudge holder. Thank you I work very hard on my mustache & clenched fist table pounding exercises. But really an actor is as only as good as his material and Adam Dunn absolutely f***ing infuriates me.
  25. Sox are trying to compete now? With who, the Twins? Astros? This team doesn't have a shot.
