  1. QUOTE(Linnwood @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) Umm... anything more about this? If it's suggestive of an upcoming deal then we should find out within several hours. And if not today, there's an offday tomorrow before a series in New York.
  2. In no world should Frank Thomas score from f***ing second base on a line drive in front of a left fielder.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) I'm not saying you did, but were you under the impression trading Iguchi was in any way going to help rebuild the farm? Not at all. This is just to openly suggest if Williams is intent on rebuilding the farm system, someone with value will have to go. He's not going to fool anyone into giving up too much for Dye or Contreras. Everyone should have known this before; but if that wasn't clear, Iguchi's trade is proof.
  4. What this trade does prove once and for all is if we have any intention of acquiring legitimate talent, we're not going to receive it from trades involving Dye or Contreras. Someone such as Garland or Vazquez need to go. We're not rebuilding our minor league system with the Michael Dubee's of the world.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) I know, and I expect Ozuna to platoon with him next year. I'd be fine with that platoon. However, you and I both know that the expectations people have for our return package in trades is insane. In all honesty, the only two players we could trade that would really piss me off if we don't get good value for are Garland and Vazquez (or if we trade Dye to the Cubs). I'm one of those expecting insane returns for certain packages -- but only for those with value. As you said, if Garland or Vazquez are traded for practically nothing I'll never let it go. It'll be "Where's our Liriano" squared. Even as I said earlier in the thread, I'm not going to be too upset. Even with Iguchi's limited production and contract status, I would have atleast expected a positional player. Not going to dwell on this trade, though. How I assess most trades is I try to turn the table around. If Williams lost his All-Star second baseman and didn't have a viable option within, would he have given up a 21 year old reliever for several months of Tadahito Iguchi? I'm not sure he would have. I guess this once again proves the notion of teams being "desperate" near the trading deadline is false. Atleast when it concerns the White Sox. Because it's not possible to be more desperate than the Phillies were.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) Why, this is a good thing we traded him. I was fearful we'd bring him back. We need someone who can play better defense and not absolutely suck vs LHP. Well, you'll be disappointed because Richar can't hit LHP either.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) Ok, then what exactly? Please tell me. I am sure the Phillies could look for other options than Iguchi if they wanted to pay more. How about someone that is actually good, like Loretta? Jason Donald Lou Marson There are your options. Question answered.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Again, what did you expect for a poor defensive player in the last year of his contract, hitting .250 with only 6 home runs and 30 RBI. What exactly? More than a 21 year old single A relief pitcher with mediocre peripherals. This is, after all, the value received from a ballclub losing their All-Star second baseman.
  9. I'm not going to complain, too much. But Jesus, is this all we could receive for Iguchi considering Philadelphia was desperate for a second basemen to replace Utley? This pitcher is the equivalent of a "C" level prospect. 21 year old relief pitchers in Single A with those peripherals aren't very valuable.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) Oh Single A. Please be Adrian Cardenas. Carlos Carrasco wouldn't be bad, either.
  11. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) How many times are you going to post this? As if the more threatening you become, the more there is a chance of this happening... Probably several more times between now and August 1st.
  12. I wish teams were having a similar bidding war over one of our players.
  13. Not one air out given up all night by Gonzalez. Nice.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) He found out that a White Sox pitching spect is not meant to have as good stuff as he does, so he decided to march out of Kanny and join one of the Minnesota Twins affilates........... No seriously, I hope nothing is wrong with him. Maybe they've just decided enough is enough for him this season, and they don't want him to log anymore innings? He's pitched 91.2 innings, so it's certaintly possible. I'd hate to think of the possibility he's injured. From the perspective of his development, DLS probably won't be up until 2009 at the earliest. There's no need to rush him. He could easily rest, or perhaps pitch limited innings out of the bullpen for Kannapolis; then next season from A+ and AA reach a total of 150 of so innings. Everything goes well he could easily begin 2009 on the opening day roster. This, of course, is assuming no major injuries occur and his development continues uninterrupted. Which is a lot to ask of any White Sox prospect...... Unless he really is on the Twins. Then he'll be a stud by next season.
  15. I have newfound respect for Nintendo games after I browsed through several last week. Jesus, several of the Mega Man and Castlevania games are damn near impossible. The original Super Mario Brothers' levels are difficult past World 6 as well. For Nintendo, my favorite games were: Battletoads, Metal Gear, N.A.R.C., Metroid, Mario Brothers 3, Legend of Zelda, Paperboy Sega Genesis: Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 2, Slaughterhouse, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Ecco the Dolphin (that's right, punks), Zero Tolerance Super Nintendo: Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2, Super Double Dragon, Joe and Mac, Donkey Kong Country (entire series), Super Mario RPG, Super Punch OUt, and probably others I can't remember. Damn, now I feel nostaligic. Anyone have the link to the website posted earlier in the year on Soxtalk where Emulators/Roms were available? It wasn't your typical site either, as everything was already provided. Wish I could find it...
  16. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) I just spray one shot in the air and then walk through it. LOL, yes! That's my move as well. Except I don't use cologne, but Tag "After Hours" spray.
  17. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) Let's face it. When it comes to Free Agency the White Sox will not be outbidding the other teams for the services of a good player. They will sign free agents under basically one of two scenarios: 1. The player is coming off of injuries, has perceived attitude problems or some other issue that makes him undesirable to most teams and therefore the Sox can get him cheap and hope for the best. Examples; Dye and Pierzynski. This is why I think Kenny will sign Omar because he's coveted him for years and now his demand is so low that he can get him cheap. 2. The player for some reason is willing to sign with the Sox for less money than other teams are offering. Examples; Konerko and Buehrle. This is why they will sign Rowand and quite possibly re-sign Dye. Sox fans can be quite certain that the Sox will not sign Byrnes, Hunter, Jones or other sought after free agents. The best that we can expect is Rowand and maybe Kenny can get lucky again with some lower echelon free agents. Otherwise, there's the trade route but they'd have to give up a big piece or two to get anything significant back. This idea, which has been discussed at length before, is percisely why the trade route is necessary to acquire talent. And why Williams just doesn't need a good trade, he needs a Liriano-esque heist. Does anyone realistically believe this team can improve 12+ games over this season with limited upgrades consisting of a tweaked bullpen and Type B Free agents recovering from injury and/or a poor season? Just look at the various ways we've limited ourselves in acquiring talent: International talent has been abysmal; drafts have hardly been successfull; we're not overpaying for anyone in the free-agent market; we're unwilling to deal with a player representative in Scott Boras who typically represents the best players in the league (and amateur draft). Aside from these points, there are two teams in the division who -- at this point -- have a far better outlook over the next several seasons. Even trades consistent with the return of McCarthy or Garcia won't be enough. As perceive, both those trades are the equivalent of taking one step backwards and one and a half step forwards. We're improved, but hardly to the extent you'd expect from a trade involving multiple players. Several of which (Masset and Floyd) have been rather disappointing. We only win the Garcia deal because he's injured; but what does that really mean if Floyd doesn't improve and Gonzalez -- God forbid-- is injured/ineffective. Williams needs to make a trade before August 1st. I don't give a f*** about the value of lesser parts in Dye, Iguchi, or Contreras. He needs to realize how vital to the future of the ballclub a quality trade will be. We absolutely need it. Garland or Vazquez need to go -- it's that simple. If he can't work out a stellar package from either of those two he's an idiot. There will be no mercy from me. And Chisoxfn, according to your quote from yesterday, if Williams doesn't effectively rebuild/retool the White Sox for next season your view of him will change. Well, one of those points are going to be either proven or disapproven in several days. I've seen how people flip flop on this site and felt I should call you out on it beforehand.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) Honestly, yes, I'd be somewhat annoyed, if not pissed. To me, with a first round draft pick, you have to pick a guy who you think will end up as a starter or a closer. Middle Relief is just so iffy overall, there's so much of it available, and the performance of it so inconsistent (see, 2005-2007 white Sox) that you can't spend first round picks on guys who only project there. If they think he'll take over for Bobby in 3 years, ok, that's a different story, but Middle Relief in the first round has to be viewed as a disappointment. Considering how Poreda was drafted with the intention of starting, if his career is as a middle reliever someone once again failed in their assessment of a draft pick. Dbaho is correct in assuming some would flame the selection.
  19. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) I am in disbelief over the prospects the Padres got for Linebrink. Linebrink is a rental middle relief guy and the Brewers dealt up 3 pretty nice prospects for him. Why can't we make a move like this? Oh, we will. Just wait until this upcoming weekend. I've set expectations so high, I can only expect Williams to come through.
  20. If the appropriate package were offered for Konerko I'd have no problem trading him. I don't about how the fanbase would react, or the public releations hit thereafter. You look at Detroit, Minnesota and Cleveland, all have had either a high impact draft pick or a stellar trade change their franchise. At this point, looking at a potentially dismal future, we could meet one of those conditions by dealing Konerko. That would be the sole condition; a deal Williams can't refuse. If not, why bother?
  21. I don't know how Williams could possibly trade Contreras, but I'd hope he wouldn't be the only person leaving the ballclub if such a scenario would unfold. Yes, his salary could be useful next season; as would not entering every ballgame expecting the offense to score 7 runs to win; but if we're looking to improve our ballclub someone with value has to be traded. I still believe Vazquez or Garland have to leave if we're looking for true offensive upgrades.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) Is DLS ok? He better be. Lord knows many pitchers possessing his ability don't come around very often in this organization.
  23. Why didn't the Tigers just let Granderson attempt to steal second base before laying down a sacfrice?
  24. According to Cooper, Floyd will be available out of the bullpen Friday. Hopefully ready to replace whichever starter is traded.
