  1. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) Haha. Jose is so bad. Please Kenny, get rid of him. Why do you want to keep him and let Buehrle go? My god it must be great to live the life of an insane person. Haha. This game is gonna be out of reach in like, 7 pitches. I've really become irritated with this lull in activity. Does it really take an additional four days to negotiate a NTC? All parties know now by now their position. Tomorrow should be the limit with this Buehrle situation. Either trade him or sign him. Enough of this. If Contreras' removal is entirely dependent upon Buehrle, more the reason to speed everything up.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) FWIW, Buehrle finally gave AJP the watch he owed him from the no-hitter. The fact he gave it to him now would make it seem like he might be leaving soon. He should either be signed or traded by Thursday morning.
  3. He should have started yesterday on normal schedule. Previous starts were June 23rd and June 28th.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) Hey Flash...mgmt has contacted us and said that we can not continually allow you to slam the organizatoins minor league policy and as such you have now been banned from posting. /removes shirt ............ What you do want to do? You can't kill the message. Where's our {insert name} will go far beyond my internet death.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Javy will own tonight... only to leave and have the bullpen give up the lea. I say Aaaaaaaardsma is the one who blows it tonight. Isn't this usually what you say before every Vazquez start? The only thing missing is the phrase, "his start will make people say, Chris who?"
  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) BTW, here's a sneak preview of the Eggy interview: Does anyone here know, who has met him personally, whether he speaks in the stereotypical Staten Island accent? That would only heighten my appreciation of Egbert. It's great that Soxtalk has the opportunity to interview these players. Interesting to know what prospects such as Gonzalez think of themselves and their ability. Aside from that, always good to have connections within the organization. As long as the attention doesn't bring with it censorship, then I'm fine.
  7. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) We are talking, in general, about signing 16 year olds here. Guillen has suggested (strongly I may add) that they play the numbers game instead of plunking down big sums of $ for one or two guys I agree with Guillen's approach. Similar to the amateur draft in America, praise from scouts and slot money doesn't guarantee success. Those sought after and given big bonuses may succeed more often than your average non-drafted free agent, but still, for an area such as Latin America -- which represents upwards of 20% of MLB -- not every player from that region is the result of a bidding war. I compare it to the draft in another sense. If we're given, let's say, two million to spend in the Dominican Republic; it'd be more beneficial to have more draft picks than throwing it all at one or two players. Perhaps for every six selected one turns into a major leaguer. If even that one player turns into a future hall of famer it'll be worth all the embarrassment of watching teams such as Bristol struggle. What I've always wanted to see is an increased presence overseas. For results to show up at a reasonable interval. Not having a contributing player from Latin America in over 10 years is inexcusable. Maybe DLS will change that and develop into a legitimate ace. Or, maybe he'll become the next Merkin Valdez. Atleast the opportunity is there for someone to turn into something of value. If their Venezuelan summer league is gone, then what happens to those players developed through the academy? Instead of a VSL affiliate, where do they go -- to the Dominican Republic? I'm asking because I dont know. Wouldn't it be a disadvantage for us when other clubs have their teams within the country?
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) According to KW, he's waiting to get the Buehrle situation resolved before making any other moves. So basically, the worst case scenario would be to have to trade Buehrle for a less than tremendous package, and then have to keep Contreras and his contract. They really need to get this Buehrle situation resolved in the next 10 days though. I don't think the Mets will ever be as desperate for pitching as they are now. 10 days?! It should be resolve by tomorrow. This is becoming ridiculous. Either trade him or sign him, already. I'm tired of waking up to the same information bouncing around. The deadline I read several days ago concerning Buehrle and a contract should be enforced by Wednesday.
  9. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) Bristol is absolutely horrible 2-11. another good year of drafting by the sox. Should I be shocked that team Bristol faced yesterday, the Twins rookie affiliate, is 12-1? Or that the White Sox Dominican summer team is 6-20? Or the second DSL team of the White Sox is 8-17?
  10. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) Q: Luke from Des Moines asks: Hey Chris, love the chats. Do you think the White Sox will sign any high-profile players this year?--I hear they want to have a bigger international presence. (By the way, at my game last Sunday, D-Ray's prospect Jeremy Hellickson's dad was the home plate ump.) A: Chris Kline: Haven't really heard them connected to anyone of significance, to be honest. If they want to have more of a presence in Latin America, that's cool, but I've heard that people in Venezuela weren't exactly fine with what happened in La Guaira last winter. Now big league bench coach Razor Shines was fired from there and players like Josh Fields, Ryan Sweeney, etc., left after Shines was gone. I know Ozzie Guillen and Joey Cora hold a lot of weight; but I don't think Chicago are going to be major players this year, anyway. I think the Cubs actually have more of a stronghold in VZ, no matter how much that hurts The Good Guys. Oops. Talent's better in the Dominican anyways. It's almost as if the organization devises new ways to limit channels for acquiring talent. Well, good luck competing with the Mets and the four million dollars spent updating their Dominican Republic baseball academy. Or working around the Dodgers, Anaheim, Yankees.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) Ah, so ignore his actual performance and stats whatsoever, and consider his velocity drop and an injury that happened years ago, and THAT makes him ineffective. What am I ignoring concerning his performance? Or supposed ineffectiveness? Super. His BAA and WHIP based upon 30 innings is the best in his career. They were good over 40 innings last season prior to the All-Star break, too. I'm suggesting you can assume his statistics hold up over the next several years, at the risk a drop in velocity is suggestive of possible arm troubles, or hold onto Jenks for a team that won't compete for several seasons.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:02 PM) Why? Because his WHIP and BAA have never been better in his career? If he were consistently at 93-95 mph since 2005 it'd be different. But considering his past injury history and a continuous drop in velocity season to season (not to mention his second half struggles last year), I just can't assume it'll suddenly stop entering 2008.
  13. I hope people opposed to trading Jenks hold this game in their memory. Without a 98-100 mph fastbal to compensate for command, he's just not as effective at 93-95. I wouldn't be surprised if his velocity dips below 92 entering next season. Then what is Williams going to do? Worry about his replacement later.
  14. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:54 PM) are we blowing the lead? i don't have it on tv here It's already blown.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) ESPN.com On ESPN a caption under Buehrle's name says, "All signs point to Mark Buehrle nearing the end of the road in Chicago." The title of the article is, "An Incredible Journey." I wouldn't say it's looking very good.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) Any word on the Intl signings today.
  17. QUOTE(GOD @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) Hey since all this started we are 7-1 (assuming we win tonight). So keep it up Kenny Unfortunately, even with a victory, we're 12.5 out of the division lead and 10.5 out of the wildcard with six teams to jump. He'll have to continue speaking about the NTC for another month for any hope to ressurect.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) Partly because of how well he pitched against us, and partly because how everyone loves him on here. I've always said that Reyes and Aybar are the two most overrated players on this site. I haven't seen anyone overrate Reyes in more than a year. And that lasted about a week following his one-hitter against the Sox.
  19. Boonito saving the team from embarrassment, yet again. Still the 9th inning, unfortunately.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) Well, I think it's quite obvious he's gone in the next 48-72 hours. Thanks for everything Mark. The expression on his face appeared to tell that. It just seemed as if he were holding himself back.
  21. Guillen needs to consider removing Buehrle if another runner reaches. We're likely going to win this game anyways; let Mark leave with a decent line and a nice ovation. None of this crap where he's only out after a two run homer clears the yard.
  22. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) Secondly, I'm sick of this story. Let's get this done Kenny. I was sick of the story on Friday. This should be Buehrle's last start if there's no intention of agreeing on the language of a NTC. It needs to end; this distraction is annoying me as a fan. Either trade him or sign him. By tomorrow. You've had enough time to talk, and probably enough time to talk with other general managers. End it now, Williams.
  23. Sisco with a promising start - 5IP, 3H, 1ER, 1BB, 7Ks. RICHAR! 2-4, 2 rbi, including yet another triple. No mention of probables, but it should be Poreda.
  24. That's it, I'm done watching for now. It's bad, but not hilarious bad-- quite yet.
  25. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) Through 3 batters, quality of play severely lacking. ....and it didn't improve with a bad defensive route from the CF. Someone can make themselves very drunk if a drinking game were developed out of this league.
