  1. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) The 2nd time through the Pads lineup, Danks was struggling to fool anyone. I mentioned this earlier as well. Yes, I didn't watch the game; but I'm listening on the radio and considering how 6 hits (i believe) occured in his last two innings, what else should I believe? It's probably a combination of lost stamina and San Diego hitters honing in on Danks.
  2. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) And we won't be playing in the open air of the Arizona desert again either, so I kinda think it does have an influence on things. But we'll be playing 81 games in the homerun haven called US Cellular Field. You can't completely negate the results of today based upon thin Arizona air and assume it'd be drastically different up North. Wind and humidity are huge factors in Chicago. Danks just pitched poorly. I won't take any excuses to justify it. The important point is now to determine in future starts whether it was isolated, or perhaps proof he could use more seasoning in AAA.
  3. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) Not to make excuses, but the strike zone kinda sucks today for pitchers. I think Danks and Floyd both looked pretty good That is an excuse. Conditions such as weather and umpiring crew won't always be perfect just so we can fairly evaluate players.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) Lets look at Danks's MO. He is the youngest at each of the levels he has gone to, he gets touched up a bit at first, then makes an adjustment and then does very well at that level. It kind of makes his overall numbers look not that impressive, but if you do splits he does pretty damn good. I figure the same thing will happen when he comes up. He just needs to hold his own a bit, until he does unlock it and then he should be real good. The talent and the stones are there. I guarantee management won't be patient with Danks if his adjustment period includes starts such as todays for an extended period (> month). He needs to pitch well right from the beginning. If a period of time is needed for refinement, it will be done in AAA before the majors. The problem is, Danks may still be our best option even with today's performance. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) I meant that they would rival each other as two of the best lefty combos in the al central. But see, again, that's not going to be true. Lee/Sabathia and Miller/Robertson will be greater than Gonzalez/Danks for the foreseeable future.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) Im not saying they are going to be as good as Santana and Lirano, I'm just saying Danks and Gio will be a good punch and be able to compete with them. Where did I say they'd resemble each other? Im just saying they will be a good 1-2 punch, IMO. When you suggest those two will be a "studs", and in the next several words mention Santana/Liriano, I can only assume you mean Danks/Gonzalez will be on a similar level.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Gio is going to be a stud, IMO. I think Danks & Gio are going to make a great 1-2 lefty punch, like Santana and Lirano. We'll never have two pitchers resembling either pitcher, let alone both.
  7. It's obvious Danks wasn't fooling anyone the second time around with a major league lineup. That's not very good for his sake.
  8. See, this isn't what I wanted to see from Danks. He's literally imploding. Didn't want doubt to creep in with management.
  9. God dammit. Yeah, we definitely don't need this. Danks is becoming unglued.
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) Andy Marte The Indians, especially with their lineup, can afford Marte to develop at 3B.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) We also have to remember, Danks is a 5th starter, not a number one yet. So he will give up runs, he will make rookie mistakes but remember when El Duque was our starter and was absolutely miserable at the end of the year getting decked. If Danks can do a good job, keep us in games great thats all I want from my number 5 starter. I just dont want people thinking that he is going to throw shutouts just yet. What I project of Danks depends on the other starters. If our other veterans are pitching closer to 2006 numbers, we would be in trouble unless Danks falls below a 5.00ERA. Additional factors include our offense, and whether it remains formidable, and if the bullpen drastically improves.
  12. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) Danks' changeup is absolutely fantastic right now. Should be interesting to see what he does for the next two innings. How does his fastball look?
  13. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) Sisco is fine in AAA. He probably still isn't ready to pitch in the majors, and Boone appears ready to take over as the 2nd lefty/Thornton role this year. Floyd apparently looks like s***, but at the very most, he'll be asked to be a 5. If he can just put up an ERA in the mid 5's, the Sox will be fine. Or if he starts in Charlotte and Danks is in the majors, that's fine as well - hopefully Floyd can figure out how to pitch. Crap, I meant Sisco in the major league bullpen would be questionable. Far as Floyd, I don't believe an ERA in the mid 5's will suffice considering the other pitchers in the rotation. Aside from Garland, Contreras/Vazquez/Buehrle can't be predicted. If they're collectively pitching on par with 2005 (and Vazquez 2003), then yes -- 5.50 could hold. In this current year of a strong American League central, it may not be enough. His destination should be Charlotte.
  14. Note to Buehrle -- fall below 85 mph on your fastball and this is what will happen.
  15. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) What a stud Danks is. Sorry Gavin. Good luck in AAA. Danks still has about three more innings. If he even pitches close to the first inning, it won't matter what Floyd does.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) I just hope Sisco is in AAA starting. If not, someone has screwed up. Talk about a series of questionable roster moves -- if Anderson and Sisco are in AAA and Floyd is in the bullpen or starting rotation, I'll seriously have to question our organization.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) I would say the worst possible scenario would be for Danks to come out, get rocked, and Floyd follow that up by getting crushed. Not sure how you can Floyd pitching well would be a bad thing. Danks is the favorite now, and I'd like it to remain that way. No illusions of Floyd contributing to this ballclub from within the rotation. If both pitch poorly, nothing changes about Floyd. However, Danks' status takes a huge hit. Danks pitches well and Floyd implodes, we're just reaffirming a decision of the better player.
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) Might be reading a little too much into it. On the the radio ads they have running, they mention Aardsma, and I really doubt he has much chance at the bullpen right now. Well, damn, if Aardsma is mentioned in anything promoting the ballclub that destroys my theory.
  19. I take it this is the gamethread. I'm hoping Danks pitches well this afternoon. The worst possible scenario would be for Danks to be crushed and Floyd to fare well. Then, we'll be in a situation where perhaps neither are suited and the decision will rest on which pitcher sucks less. We're really making this decision more difficult than it has to be. Danks, Floyd and Haeger ALL should be starting 'A' games against major league lineups. It's the veteran starters who should be starting B games. They're the ones guaranteed jobs.
  20. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) I see both Masset and Haeger making the 25 man roster. BP: Jenks, Thornton, MacDougal, Masset, Logan, Haeger. Sisco and Floyd go down as starters in AAA, Aardsma to AAA in the bullpen. I wouldn't have a problem with such a bullpen, but I question whether Sisco will be sent down and Logan remains. Subtle signs are mentioned every passing day about Sisco. Another one from yesterday, for example, has featured in a White Sox commercial saying the word, "passion." It may not mean anything, but that doesn't sound like a good marketing strategy to have your future minor league starter promoting the ballclub.
  21. First time many people here, including myself, have watched him pitch. How do you believe he looked? He's practically a spitting image of Joe Blanton in every conceivable way -- from build to 'stuff.' I suppose this season's results will go a long way to determining which path he'll take from 2008 onwards. You can't waste someone with three decent pitches (curveball, changeup, fastball) in the bullpen. Judging from this article, Masset appears to embrace the role of a long reliever. I get the impression several coaches have approached him about the position. Thus, pushing Haeger out of the equation. And if anyone missed him pitch earlier, CSN is replaying the game at 2am. He'll probably appear around 3:30, or so.
  22. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) if it goes pods erstad... ...i will boycott the white sox. screw ozzie and screw kw for the trash they're overrating. Against righthanders those two (if healthy) stand a fighting chance. That's sort of the problem in itself, hoping both Podsednik and Erstad avoid injury. However, late in games and against lefties those two shouldn't even be near each other.
  23. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) Kinda sounds like Frank Thomas his last 6 or so years with the Sox. Frank Thomas at his worst could still make an adjustment inside if not injured. Or show patience at the plate and wait for a mistake. I really wouldn't be surprised if the organization is very "careful" with Anderson's injury. The decision has probably already been made concerning his future. Now it's time to milk this incident for all its worth.
  24. What that swing proved from Anderson is how far from consistency he really is. It just looked bad......REAL bad.
  25. Perfect excuse from Guillen, if Anderson isn't feeling well, not to bring him North.
