  1. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) I've got lineups. Ozuna, LF; Iguchi, 2B; Dye, RF; Thome, DH; PK, 1B; Crede, 3B; AJ, C; Uribe, SS; BA, CF. Vazquez pitching. He'll continue with these lineups as not to upset his pitchers, or give anyone the impression we've given up. It's f***ing annoying to watch. I'm honestly hoping for elimination as quick as possible so we can watch Fields/Sweeney. I'd especially like to see them against Minnesota's pitchers, ideally Santana.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) I've always wondered this as well. What did ketchup do to deserve all this hate? My dad grew up near Bridgeport; mom in Hyde Park; never have they, or any of my family members, mentioned such a ketchup/hotdog-phobia. Did Richard J. Daley create up such a rule? Because if he didn't, I refuse to follow it. It's not my fault ketchup on hotdogs is delicious.
  3. LOLLERZ Cotts has been terrible this second half. Anyone else notice he no longer uses a 'hitch' in his delivery? Note him now, opposed to previous seasons. How can he knowingly abandon the part of his follow-through responsible for deceiving hitters?
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) since you arent able to have a memory here we go one more time: take notes please for gods sake! YOU RESPECT YOUR WS CHAMPION PLAYERS BY KEEPING THEM! AT LEAST THE MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS! GM couldve reevaluated at All-Star break.... Except Rowand wasn't what I'd call a "major contributor"
  5. Ump has definitely been squeezing Zumaya this inning.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 09:34 PM) There were people on this site earlier this year saying that his attempted murder charge wasn't too big of a deal, and that he's a good guy. I honestly don't care. If Urbina would be willing to pitch for fairly cheap I'd sign him right now, machete and all.
  7. QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) That stolen base by Guillen wraps up our season in one play. It would have been more appropriate if Guillen stole third, MacDougal throws past Crede to LF, and Podsednk limp wrists a throw which takes 8 bounces to reach AJ. Then Guillen makes about 6 pitching changes right after.
  8. That's just embarrassing. If I were at the park I'd boo from now till I left the ballpark.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) What did Hawk say about the move? "A pitching change? After a ducksnort single?"
  10. Ironic how in a series where a sweep was essential, it was Freddy Garcia whom stepped up. Garland and Buehrle soiled themselves on the mound. Is Harrelson questioning Guillen's move? Sure sounded like he was.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Who the hell is saying they ARE going to win...? No one. You're right, no one definitively said we're going to win. However, even suggesting it's possible deserves criticism. Personally, I was sarcastic; but not overly critical of the poster. Such personal threats, as you may interpret them, haven't occured to my knowledge. I provided evidence, even slight, to support my end of the argument. Where's theirs? Can you not see the double standard you're imposing? Criticizing Buehlre is obviously debateable, in your mind, yet overcoming a 5 game deficit with 11 games to play isn't? Especially if faith is the only foundation for believing in such an event. Steff, you can argue semantics with me all you want. I'm sure you'll reply to this post by saying I somehow misunderstood you, or the true meaning behind your reply. I'd like to believe after 16 years of education I'm capable of comprehending the meaning of a simple sentence.
  12. I knew a similar thread was posted last year. It was made during the Indians resurgence. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...40280&st=50 Coincidentally, I posted the Who's, "Won't Get Fooled Again," as well.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Not specific to you kalapse.. but for anyone who simply can't help themselves and s*** on others who remain hopeful. Since you were indirectly talking to me, I'll say this: if anyone is willing to say --without reason-- we're going to win-out and do something this club hasn't done in god knows how long, they deserve criticism. How many times has this issue been brought up? Not about blind optimism, but "leaving people alone" when our thoughts done match theirs. How would debate exist on this website if such a belief were honored? Am I supposed to leave posters in their fantasy world when I see something which obviously defies logic? I say "Buehrle sucks and should be traded," I expect a response. Some in support, some opposed. I suggest -- in April -- "our team is underrated," I expect a response. This thread is no different, and shouldn't be given any sort of special treatment.
  14. Twista, "Let Me Play With Your Emotions" Aerosmith, "Dream On." Especially the line, "The past is gone......." AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE: The Who, "Won't Get Fooled Again."
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) Unfortunately, Ozzie seems to have no intention of using Mack in the role he was originally pegged for. None at all. Which is why I'm to the point where I want Mack traded this offseason...just so Ozzie can never, ever, ever play him in CF again. I've said before, one of Williams' goal this upcoming offseason should be to 'Guillen-proof' his lineup. Remove -- to the best of his abilities -- players which Guillen may misuse. Ozuna is expendable. Fields can take his place. May not provide comparable speed, but his power potential exceeds that of Ozuna. Could he honestly be worse defensively? Guess we'll have to find out from winterball. You trade/release Podsednik, release Ozuna, and it practically forces Guillen to properly use Mackowiak in LF. If Fields and Sweeney remain our backup outfields, atleast there exists players capable of providing production. I'd rather have either of them then protypical grinders such as Ozuna or Timo Perez. I know it's a dangerous game playing along this sort of reasoning, but I wouldn't expect a monumental dropoff in our clubs overall offensive production next season. I'm confident a Mackowiak/Fields platoon could provide more than Podsednik did this season. Anderson will likely improve. Whomever replaces Uribe (another player whom should depart) can't possibly be worse. It should be fairly even if you figure Dye/Crede/Konerko may regress. Our offense will ultimately be just as good, but without needless GRINDERS. It may sound strange assembling a team around your managers wishes, but to any close observer of Guillen these last few seasons, his odd fascinations with players costs us games. We wouldn't be suffering much but an absence of Latin flavor within our clubhouse.
  16. LOL, yeah, lets just win 10 straight games during the most crucial part of our schedule when we haven't had such a streak in over a decade. Perhaps longer.
  17. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) Balta, I see your point, but you have to also think that next year is possibly the best chance we're going to have at another championship for awhile. I'm all for going all out for next year and seeing where that takes us. You can only plan for the future so much, when the opportunity is there, which it will be next year, you gotta take advantage of it. If you believe next year is truly the last 'window of opportunity' available to this ballclub, what would be the limit to how far you'd go? Would you approve another Thome/Vazquez trade which basically involves the pillaging of top positional and/or pitching prospects? Honestly, I believe this season was our moment. Williams had in his possession a collection of starting pitchers -- VAUNTED, some might say -- which was upgraded with Vazquez's addition. No one questioned our talent. Look at us now. The entire rotation regressed. The one component which carried our ballclub this year -- and ultimately led to our removal from the playoffs -- failed. What exactly do I have to be hopeful with next season? That Buehrle magically returns to his career numbers? Contreras, and his 45, remain healthy for another season? It just amazes me to hear people continuely hold faith in our five starting pitchers. Even considering Garcia's impending removal. As it is now, it's not going to compete with those within our division. THIS is the key. Our window of opportunity was here, and guess what -- WE BLEW IT. Now is the time to trade whomever is necessary; whichever piece could lend us the greatest amount of talent in return. It's still possible to compete and rebuild, as Balta has indicated. Really, it comes down to this for me -- either put everything you have (money, prospects) into next season HOPING the rotation magically returns to 2005 form; or look beyond next season and realize the position we may be in concerning free agents. I'll always be a fan of the Whtie Sox, but I just don't believe they're in a good position next season.
  18. QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) http://forums.espn.go.com/espn/thread?foru...PostID=28916377 Almost impossible, but oh how I'd like to rub it in their face. This is the type of thing that can light some fire under some player's asses, and they need it, just need to make up 2 games in 1 and a half week, hard, but not impossible Yeah, maybe Konerko will raise his voice a little bit. Hell, he may even resist the urge to shrug his shoulder. You can't light fires under the asses of players when they're practically zombified.
  19. QUOTE(JERMAINEDYE4MVP @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) I have a feeling that we will go on a good run starting tomorrow. I just do. We're only 4.5 out of the WC with 3 games left with Minny.. and as any true baseball fans know, ANYTHING is possibel that last series.. anything could happen. Maybe just maybe the sox go can make up 2.5 games by then and GO TO THE DOME and SWEEP the TWINS and then We get out magic back and ROLL thru the playoffs once agian and REPEAT! DON"T STOP>>>BELIEVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just give up hope, already. Even IF such a scenario plays out, you think we'll defeat Santana in Minneapolis? He won't allow it. We're better off winning nine straight entering the last series than defeating Santana.
  20. Have fun reflecting on this thread. It's funny looking back on the high expectations we set. Not me, though. I knew Guillen would misuse McCarthy. Several people were surprisingly spot on. Among them -- tony82087, Southsider2k5, SNB.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) This isn't meant for you, but people have to stop comparing McCarthy to guys like Santana, Verlander, etc. Comparisons are unjust in the department, obviously. For me, it's to a point where you look at this future rotation against division rivals and wonder how we're going to compete. Tigers throw out -- Miller, Bonderman, Verlander in 08' Twins throw out -- Garza, Santana, Liriano in 08' How do we match this? We may potentially face these pitchers more than 15 times a season. It will come to a point where blue chip SP prospects better emerge, or quality starters better be acquired via trade/FA signing, if we want ANY chance of competing in the next several seasons. Now, any of you can point out Liriano's injury problems, but I'd rather assume he'll be available and do our best to compensate for his value.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) 4.50 if he's in the rotation For 8 million less than Garcia? I'll take that anyday.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) Let the Fields lovefest begin. So does Bmac still have his name etched in stone for the 2007 rotation? That's because no one has seen him strikeout yet. The worst thing possible for this organization would be not to find him another AB this season. He'll be immortalized. And yes -- McCarthy is in the rotation next season. Can't you see he abandons his changeup out of the bullpen? It's the pitch which defined his turnaround in September last year.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) We better upgrade our offense at SS then. That wouldn't be difficult when you consider Uribe's offensive production.
  25. QUOTE(Hollywood_AU @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) Why not? Might as well let him start his own game and see what happens. It's not like it would hurt anything. Uh, what about hurting his arm/shoulder? What purpose does it serve? Throw Haegar out if you're looking to rest starters. Or Tracey sometime next week.
