QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) tradebait? If a ballclub were willing to overvalue Buehrle with several blue-chip pitching prospects, than yes. I'm not too confident about next years club as it is. Until Williams makes changes to this rotation -- ideally two spots -- we're not going to compete with Detroit and Minnesota.
-
Talk about luck. Buehrle pitched like someone failed to change his diapers during the 1st, and Detroit's aggressiveness is what saves our ballclub. This is how our supposed ace responds to a must win situation. He chokes like some Vietnamese whore. I'm tired of watching him. He can enjoy his extended contract in the National League when 2008 arrives.

QUOTE(mu mu @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) Results... TB: 2-1 KC: 1-2 BOS: 1-2 CLE: 2-2 LAA: 2-1 OAK: 0-3 8-11 so far. 13 games TO GO... DET (3 Home) SEA (4 Home) CLE (3 Away) MIN (3 Away) Well, atleast my prediction of 8-11 through 19 is correct thus far.

YAY, another round of Rogers no-hitting our offense through 4 innings.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) I honestly don't know enough about the technical stuff to assign blame here: -Is it Ozzie? -Is it Kenny? -Was it lack of the Soriano trade? -Is it the players? -Or an unholy combination of all? Yeah and then there's Ozzie's questionable game decisions and what-not. Where do you even start? This is exactly where you start. No manager can control what occurs on the field -- but what Guillen CAN control is his inability to successfully manage his bullpen. Limit fixations with certain players at positions (Timo last year, Mack this year) which goes against any form of logic. Or avoid resting key positional players every third day. Atleast I won't have to hear, "he rested his starters frequently last year and we won a world series," again. Williams may have to adopt Jim Hendry's recent idea and re-assemble a team which his manager can't exploit. Trade Podsednik and Uribe. Package Cotts with Garcia. Say goodbye to Ozuna. Find a defensive orientated, respectable OBP, right handed bench player who can pinch hit for Mackowiak in LF (or replace him against tough lefties). Force Guillen's damn hand. Have Sweeney remain as another backup OF who perhaps can substitute for Dye or Anderson on occasion. Maybe Fields can be the option of a righthanded backup OF/platoon man for Mack. You can't blame Williams for this season. Aside from the questionable Vazquez trade (which is beginning to balance out), or the Thome trade (which still needs to be seen), he did his best to assemble a World Series championship. Now, if he doesn't see the problems I highlighted in the previous paragraph -- as well as McCarthy's need to be in the rotation -- then it'll be appropriate to blame him.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) I wonder what Hawk is really thinking about Ozzie though. Because how many times did we hear how awful the previous manager was and word about the greatness that is the Ozzie Ball mentality, etc. He subtly criticized Guillen in the previous week for not putting out the best defensive team on the field. I have to believe, despite the assurances he's given the audience of "not wanting another manager for this team," he's grown weary of Guillen. Funny how last season, and earlier this year, Guillen -- according to Hawk -- wouldn't allow his team to get off track. A day wouldn't pass in which his carefree clubhouse demeanor wasn't complimented on air. "These players are playing loose," was a phrase thrown around often. That talk has certaintly died down since the ASB.

--.300 2 HR, 7 RBI --.000, 0 HR, 1 RBI Which two players do this series numbers belong to? Hint -- one player has a base salary of $500,000, another 14million. Another hint --One player has practically carried his team in September, another can barely carry a bat across home plate.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) Nevermind... We f***ing suck. 13 left, 4 back, f'n a. Not much pressure for this club remaining. Just have to sweep Detroit. Not difficult. Oh, and of those three games Verlander and Bonderman are pitching. Aside from that bit of urgency, it would be helpful if we didn't lose one game the remainder of the year. Especially in Minnesota the last series of the year. GO SOX!!11 I BELIEVE!!!11
-
Thomas responded to Guillen and his critics by single handedly defeating his former ballclub two straight games. How does our ballclub respond to a must-win series? Lose three straight. Any of which could have been in our favor.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Come on Alex, get on base so we can waste Uribe's out this inning and not in the 9th. Nope. We'll have to witness Street flick his breaking ball over the outside corner and make Uribe look foolish.
-
Choke Crede! Welcome back.
-
Thome, please come through this one instance in September. Atleast elevate a pitch.
-
To quote Fathom, because for some reason I can't quote his post, it's not a choke because of our position in the standings, but due to the inability of this team to meet expectations. Difficult to defend your title when you're not even in the postseason. They didn't choke away a lead; they choked away the entire 2nd half of this season.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Because he doesn't drop down against lefties. I know, but with Bradley he appeared more comfortable than facing Chavez or Swisher, for example. Obviously, both of those players are better than Bradley; but this shouldn't be on the mind of a pitcher. He needs confidence to throw his pitches against anyone.
-
Why does Contreras pitch Bradley better than anyone else in this lineup? I swear, the only player he appears comfortable against. Not one forkball has hung, or fastball been thrown away from AJ's spot.
-
You have to appreciate our ineptness when even Hawk has become critical. It's basically the season right here. You don't win, it's going to be too much for a sweep against Detroit; and basically .900 ball the remainder of the season.
-
That was a terrible strike call on Crede before the strikeout. However, that last swing was vintage Choke Crede.
-
Thome, now how about you match Thomas and make something happen here.
-
Good to know Podsednik could have scored if he weren't thrown out. Or, at the least, been on third base.
-
Oh man, Podsednik caught stealing again. His days definetly are numbered.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) i will say this one more time...there is no reason to break up a WS team until the midway point of the next season...then you consider major moves to improve if needed... That point has come and gone. It's time to trade whomever necessary; aside from McCarthy, who'll be expected to fill into one of the most disappointing divisions of our team -- starting pitching.
-
QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) "Frank is not gonna beat us" -White Sox It's embarrassing in a way. The ONE player who you didn't want to defeat you, yet, none of our pitchers could retire Thomas when they needed to. Sure would be fitting if this score held up and Thomas' HR decided the game.
-
Hey Thome, are you watching Thomas? He's worth about 1/13th of your salary and decided to show up in September.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) If it's a cramp, it's logical that he could stay in the game. It may be logical since he's physically able to stand, but watching just now -- since the initial cramp -- his velocity is down. It plays on the mind of pitchers.
