QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) if he gets traded to Philly than possibly the 2 best SS's playing right now would both be at 3B..... This entire speculation of a positional shift sounds unlikely to me. I really doubt Tejada would be willing to move to 3rd base for Philadelphia of all teams. If he goes there, it should be Rollins who moves.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 08:06 PM) Then wouldn't it just make more sense to do a 3 team trade: Sox get Tejada, Ray, and Madson Phils get Count + Sox prospects O's get Abreu + Uribe Doesn't help the Orioles pitching situation. Infact, they're worse afterwards. Phillies aren't exactly receiving equal value for Abreu/Madson, either. Contreras would have to be added with a TOP Sox prospect. How many of those are left? -
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) Science proves the existence of genetic mutations that may enhance individual tendencies toward homosexual behavior, but no explaination is giving on WHY those mutations happen. So it can be choice OR genes. If it was known what led to the mutation then you'd enter the tricky realm of people preventing, or rather modifying, the particular gene. Imagine testing a fetus early in development for the supposed "mutation--" parents crying in a doctors office when the news arrives their child has tested positive. I don't believe that's very ethical or probable at this stage in medicine. Cure a few diseases like, I don't know, cancer or heart disease before tackling these. For the debate--there's no question genetics play a role. As does our environment, although to a lesser extent. If you're not exposed to alcohol your entire life, but after injesting, develop a addiction--you may have a genetic deposition. Obviously, alcohol dependancy isn't exactly a trait developed through millions of years of evolution by our hominid ancesotrs. Possessing a gay gene is obviously different, but what I'm suggesting is you may have the gene yet not develop it's effects unless certain environmental influences are met. If a gay gene were simply genetic, or simply environmental, it would be nonexistent. Obviously, since gays can't mate, you'd expect the gene to die off if it were the case. On the other hand, if it were purely environmental, certain cultures wouldn't be effected. I'm sure homosexual behavior exists everywhere in the world. Personally, I believe ALL of us have a recessive gay gene within us which, when combined with our mates, may expose itself when certain nurture events take place.

Prior seeking another few million isn't unexpected. It's not as if the Cubs are spending money on quality free agents and may need another few million. Although Prior's notice of seeking arbitration was known before Furcal's signing, Cubs were simply unwilling to match Dodgers final offer.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) Beane has produced a WS Champion? When was that and in what league? The answer is never, unless you count Fantasy Baseball. Beane is way overrated, just like he was as a player/prospect. Granted he has made some nice player moves, but he has never won a World Series. Actually the A's have never even been to an ALCS under Beane. They have lost 4 ALDS. That is some consistent mediocrity. The A's have also gotten worse every year for the last 4 years. So I don't see why this guy gets so much credit. He lets Tejada get away and then the guy explodes. I guess he missed that one. Sarcasm, brother. Oh, and you may have tempered the Beane disciples with your numerous taunts and accusations of mediocrity. That is meant as sarcasm as well, but I may be wrong..... -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 06:53 PM) Ever read Moneyball? Beane used to call him Mr. Swing At Everything. He hated Tejada. He swings at everything, but he doesnt miss too often. The count doesnt get worked very much with him at the plate. I've read Moneyball. Where's the chapter about their playoff series victory, again? I may have missed it. Since he's a genius, and obviously his methods have produced a World Series champion, we shouldn't touch Tejada. WWBD should be a braclet worn on the wrist of every GM. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:53 PM) You would be surprised at the prospects you can trade. I know many here are worried about this but they will acquire the necessary pieces for the bullpen. Again--who's left to trade? Our minors is left with fringe prospects and Low-A talent. It's gutted. I'm not confident in the White Sox acquiring quality bullpen arms if Contreras is not involved. That's the key, for me--quality arms. Sure, they may trade a Baj/Munoz for some raw left-hander with injury history, but I'm hoping for pitchers ready to contribute immediately. Not another diamond in the rough. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) How do you know this for sure? Who's left to trade? With Contreras gone, everyone from our starting rotation would be off limits; the bullpen as well. Would you trade a cheap Joe Crede for a bullpen arm? Or Dye? Who replaces them? -

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) I really think bullpen is overrated. Why can't guys down there in the pen throw 200 innings like the starters? Our starters are going to go 6-7 innings each time out, so Cotts/Politte/Jenks/Hermanson plus a random "journeyman" or Baj, Munoz, whoever you want should be enough for the long haul. Plus, Jenks, Cotts, and Hermanson have all been starters on a professional level at one point so they are going to be able to eat up innings. -Because a bullpen arm doesn't condition like a starter -Because a bullpen arm may pitch several days in a row Sure, our bullpen can pitch 200 innings--just don't expect Cotts/Politte/Jenks/Hermanson to pitch more than 2 times a week. You can't overwork our remaining arms. No matter how valuable they may be, you need a Marte or Vizcaino to pitch occassionally. Are we just assuming everyone of our starters pitches 7 innings every game? Baj and Munoz are pure s***. Bajenaru throws a straight 90 mph fastball and a hanging slider, Munoz has an equally weeak fastball complimented with a lazy curveball. These pitchers won't cut it. I'm tired of our minor league pitchers. Everyones a bust until proven otherwise. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) Tejada/Cotts/Jenks/Polite/Hermanson/Baj We're becoming a very expensive team with Tejada. It's not going down anytime soon with most under contract, or receiving arbitration raises. I's not as if there's a few prospects from our depleted minors you expect to produce in a few years. -

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) Cotts/Politte/Jenks/Hermanson alone doesn't convince me. Add to the fact all three together (Uribe/Qualls/Baj) are nearly 1/3 the price of Tejada. -

I'll continue to insist on this site no trade scenario makes sense with ANY team, for ANY circumstance, unless a quality bullpen arm (or quality pitching prospect) is included. I realize Tejada's talent--but if the deal proposed within this site were to occur, we'd still have two holes left to occupy in the bullpen. Is the upgrade of Tejada over Uribe worth worrying about two bullpen positions? Funny, for all the praise given to Marte and Vizcaino's departure, no one appears worried. I just won't settle with Baj/Tracy battling with some journeyman for the final two bullpen positions. Really, I have no problem dealing Count/Uribe/Sweeney/Additional for Tejada if another quality bullpen arm is packaged. After Contrereas is traded, our bargaining chips are practically gone. Tavares/Qualls/Prospect still sounds more appeasing to me. It comes down to this: if given the choice, which sounds more appeasing: 1. Uribe/Qualls/Baj 2. Tejada/Baj/Journeyman. -
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) A good friend speculated an interesting trading scenario in regards to Prior. He claims that the Cubs will indeed trade Prior and prospects to the Orioles for Tejada out of vulnerbility from being the 'new' 2nd team in town And since the Orioles would be worried about Priors health they would ship him to the White Sox for Jose Contreras and a couple of mid-level prospects. So the Orioles would get about 5-6 solid prospects out of these moves plus Contreras in which they can trade during the midseason for even more prospects. Lets face it the Orioles are going to re-build. And the Orioles KNOW Contreras is healthy and are questioning Priors health. CAN you guys imagine Prior on the Sox?!?! It would ruin the Cubs forever! Prior, Buerhle, Garland, Garcia, Vazquez, McCarthy = WOAH!!!!!!!! Hey in Kenny you never know Yeah, that's very far fetched. Hendry was (may still be) requiring another starter in return for Prior. If I'm the Orioles, I'd rather take chances with Prior's health--since he's locked up for several more years, than one possible half/year of Contreras. Orioles would have to practically hide this from the Cubs; because I doubt they trade Prior knowing he may end up on the South Side.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) Hollywood Video is the only way to go if your renting a game from a store. Personally I gave up renting a while ago, but I think Blockbuster just changed the price of games and its a total jip. That's where I've been renting for the last several years. If I'm looking for a particular video or videogame Hollywood doesn't have I'll go to Blockbuster--as I did with SOTC. Besides the fair prices (which include $1 rentals for catalog titles), the selection is HUGE. I'd guess it's nearly twice as large as Blockbuster's selection. When Blockbuster removed all their VHS tapes I considered it sacreligious. Since I'm one of the few people who rent VHS tapes--mainly because they're cheaper to rent and duplicate, I enjoy Hollywood.
-
QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) don't worry, all blockbusters and video rental stores will be out of business in a few years anyway. With all the new direct movies on digital cable and the netflix's of the world, they'll be gone soon. Blockbuster's problem is constantly demeaning their customers. The "NO MORE LATE FEEs" fiasco reeked of desperation. They marketed the promotion terribly, and as a result, many were left having to pay the fee of the actual tape unless they returned the rental AND paid a $1.50 restocking penalty. Of course people will stupid enough to intepret "NO MORE LATE FEES" as "Hey, I can keep this video game for two weeks!!!" Reminds of me how how the MPAA is battling video piracy and other forms of lost revenue. Instead of perhaps lowering prices of movie tickets, or concessions, extra commercials are included in previews. Makes sense--irritate the viewing public more. If Blockbuster wants to compete with Netflix and OnDemand movies, they need to lower their prices. Instead of five day rentals, move it back down to three for every tape in the store. Leave five day rentals for video games. Give more people the opportunity to rent a new released video.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) I always wonder 1 thing when these sorts of stories hit the airwaves (usually it seems there's 1 or 2 "dog or cat calling 911" stories per year)...how often do dogs/cats dial 911 by accident and end up causing visits to people's homes by police/paramedics when there's no real need? Who knows, but I guarantee it's more frequent than the one or two a year who supposedly call paramedics during an emergency. Where is the national exposure to a story centering around a trained cat/dog accidentally dailing 911? It's far more appealing for a good natured story centering around the actions of one "hero" cat.
-
When the f*** did Blockbuster begin charging $8.00 for video game rentals? I haven't rented a video game from there in several months, so obviously it occured sometime during this transition period. It's unbelievable. I'm surprised never to have heard any public outrage concerning this. Sounds like Blockbuster trying to screw the consumers again. There I am waiting in a 20 minute line with Shadow of the Colossus in my hand, when I'm shocked to notice a $7.99 rental fee on the checkout monitor. The dufus behind the counter reacted like I was crazy when I asked him, "I thought video game rentals were $5.00?" Since I only came with five I couldn't even rent the game. They just lost my business.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) My guess... This Gary Rosheisen originally made the 911 call and collapsed right after dialing the number before saying anything. His cat came in and sat next to him, probably looking to play. Rosheisen either forgot that he originally made the call before he passed out or he is embellishing the story for some strange reason. This is my guess as well. I suppose the officer interviewed was more willing to believe an outlandish scenario rather than figure out perhaps the old-man forgot he dialed 911. How the hell can you even devise a scenario in which the cat somehow dislodged the phone from it's receiver, dialed 911, then HUNG UP. Attempt to teach the cat anything remotely close to this and it will only lick it's ass and piss on the telephone. Anyone recall the story of the woman from Europe receiving the first facial transplant? The reason behind her injury was due to her dog mauling her face. The women, oddly enough, received the injuries while unconscious due to a suicide attempt. I haven't heard a follow up on the story, but I'm willing to bet the dog mauling her face was its response to knowing the owner was in trouble. That's a smart dog.

Interesting article from the Daily Southtown this morning concerning the Tejada trade and Prior's pitching mechanics. http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/co...ki/x27-lad1.htm Although I don't necessarily believe Prior's mechanics are as volitale as Marshall suggests (pitching isn't exactly a natural motion of the arm), I find it hilarious he includes numerous digs on the Cubs. Even more hilarious considering all the people who label his pitching motion the prototype for an effortless delivery. You'll know he'll never change it, anyways. I'd be willing to bet that "loop" Marshall observed is an integral component of the motion which carried Prior into the majors. It may be responsible for deceiving hitters or providing extra bite on his curveball.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) Damn, how come everybody either hates or dislikes Murph? That dude kicks ass, IMO. But I've been listening to the Score on a regular basis for over a decade now, so perhaps I have just grown to love him. You can't just jump right in and like a guy like Murph off the bat, I suppose. I know that you're a Score head, so you've probably listened to Murph plenty of times. Is it his voice, his love for the Cubs, etc? All he ever does is criticize Andy McFAIL and Jim Hendry. He's definitely not a homer. Murph has limited knowledge outside of baseball. Although I haven't listened to his show much since its move to afternoons, I heard all I needed to from a radio spot plugging his program. IIRC, it followed : "All we hear is the Bears' offense is terrible, but in the last (however) many games, the Bears have held the opposition to even fewer points. Is this illogical?" I sat listening to this on the train thinking, of course it is, you moron. Our defense, up until this afternoon, was the best in the league. Found it rather odd the Score would select a snippet from Murph's show which exposes his lack of depth concerning football. Aside from his noted Cub homerism, I question his objectivity. He devoted five minutes to discussing how he would show no emotional attachment (negative or positive) towards the Sox during their impending playoff run. Right away, Sox fans listening knew where not to turn to for insight into a playoff game. It's as if he needes to maintain Cub credibitlity among his targeted audience of 35-50 year old men residing on the North side. In the final week of this seaon, Murph continued to discuss the Cubs. Noted, in my mind, because in the final week of 04' Cub collapse Murph said--on air--he would no longer discuss the White Sox. Odd how circumstances change when the scenarios are flipped. Another problem is his relationship with Jim Hendry. It's close, as I can figure. Nothing is ever his fault. It's, as you referenced, Andy Mc F-A-I-L's fault Hendry can't create trades without attempting to fleece the other team. I can go on for another few paragraphs. I'll end this by adding his goofy sound effects don't help. -
For a team desperately searching for pitching help, I don't forsee Baltimore trading any. Perhaps a few pitching prospects; but Ray and Cabrera definitely won't be moved. What I'm interested in is what the hell the Dodgers are doing. They seemingly feel off the map after signing Tomko. Their rotation can't possibly be set as it currently stands. You'd think with the surplus of pitching prospects they could afford to package a few and receive Contreras, Garcia, or Vazquez. Maybe what my cousin from LA told me is true--ever since Pedro Martinez, they treat ever pitching prospect within their organization like a future hall-of-famer. Afraid the next trade may one they'll never live down. Poor philosophy, and their recent records reflect it; if true.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) ESPN is reporting that this may turn into a gigantic, 4 team mess involving the Devil Rays, Mets, Orioles, and Red Sox, with Manny and Baez going to the Mets, Julio Lugo and Clement (and I think Benson?) going to Baltimore, Tejada going to Boston, and a few other guys including Andy Marte going to Tampa. I think it just looked like way too big of a mess to ever happen, especially with the dollars the Orioles' would be taking on. If the Orioles were looking to have Boston/New York pay a portion of Clement/Benson's salary, they'd have to trade an additional prospect to either team, as well as Tampa. It would likely have to be a top prospect. So in the proposed trade, Orioles may have to surrender two top prospects, Tejada, and add more than 15 million to the payroll for two average starters and Julio Lugo?! That'll never work.

Flash Tizzle replied to Harry&JimmyRocked's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Several weekends last year Rongey would host a late-night segment called "Garbage Hour," or something to that effect. I don't mind him. He has a smart-ass personality to him, similar to Boers and Bernstein. What I look forward to is Rongey providing a fair assessment of the team. Don't jump ship following every loss, but be willing to criticize the team if necessary. Wills--and to a lesser extent, Dolget, practically revolutionized sports radio excuses. Aside from Murph, I don't mind the Score personalities. Jesse Rogers may be annoying on his own, but I find his recent shows with Lou Cannelis to be surprisingly informative.
