  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) AFter reading everyone's response, and asking myself if I would share my parenting techniques or mishaps on this board. I have come to the conclusion that Juggs is full of s*** and just trying to argue about something. I would never air this s*** on a public message board if this is what I was doing as a parent. You dont air your dirty laundry in public, and not on the internet. When I first read his original post, I thought his reference to Biology was a precursor to an extended discussion on the topic of evolution. Maybe this is his method of ensuring his comeback in the 'Most Likely To Get Flamed' category.
  2. Juggs, this is likely a problem which existed many years prior to high school. I'm not going to go far enough as to criticize your parenting, but obviously--unless your child has learning disabilities-- certain approaches may have contributed to her unwillingness to accept responsibility. Personally, I've always been an excellent student. Not because I'm the most intelligent or naturally gifted, but due to a persistent desire to succeed. The most difficult aspect of education isn't learning the intricacies of a topic, but opening up a book and pushing yourself to understand certain material. Schooling is not only to culture youth, but to prove to future colleges and employers this particular person CAN learn. He/She HAS proven they can be taught new techniques fand ideas. What you should do is send her to college away from home. Have her develop reponsibility. If she fails out of college, and Mrs. Juggernaut cries, then it's time to reassess several things. But you have to take a risk.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) I think Hamas in a Palestinian government will be good for the region. I'll explain when I get free time at work. If you reasoning for this belief lies on Hamas' desire to be considered legitimate by Western governments, any public reforms within their group won't alter their stance on Israel. Sure, their financing of armed militants and recruitment of suicide bombers may desist, but this won't go nearly far enough. I honestly don't know why people continue to believe peace is possible. The entire Middle Eastern region--Palestine included--won't be completely satisfied with any peace plan unless Israel is removed. EDIT: Paragraph above wasn't addressed to you, Kickass. Just an overall assessment of the peace process.
  4. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Do you think people play up their ethnic, gender, sexual stereotype intentionally? Do you think that it's just a byproduct of environment? Intentional reinforcement of stereotypes for the following: -Ethnic: no -Gender: yes -Sexual: yes Byproduct of environment: -Ethnic: yes -Gender: yes -Sexual: yes Sorry to disappoint you Los. But if you're seeking social conceptions of common stereotypes, This post has been edited by the Soxtalk staff to remove objectionable material. Thank you. Moderator note. Sorry Flash, but even though its in green and your intent was innocent, I just can't let that stay up on this board. I don't want to run the risk of a guest misunderstanding what green means here.
  5. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) We can hope that Oakland falls out of contention, and we can trade for Frank for some mid-season help! He's not Carl Everett. Sorry Kalapse. I doubt that would occur unless Williams is willing to give up a quality prospect. That's assuming Thomas is shown to have recovered from his injuries. I'd rather we ignore visions of a reunion, since it would likely mean either Thome or Konerko have sustained an injuiry and were attempting to replace their production.
  6. Aside from the eight games Oakland faces the White Sox, I'll openly cheer for Frank Thomas. Not Oakland. Never. He certaintly has impacted our ballclub beyond that of any prior player in organizational history; and for that, deserves the support of White Sox fans. --And now the obligatory praise of Beane. HE'S... DONE IT AGAIN.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 08:54 AM) BTW, the 9/11 Terrorists came in through Canada, why aren't we discussing a wall across the Canadian border? Illegally? Perhaps I'm wrong, but I thought all those involved traveled legitimately through U.S. Customs on student/work Visas.
  8. I guarantee his death was either due to a drug overdose, or a murder related to drug activity.
  9. Are you asking for our true opinion, or is this a trick question? I'll assume it's legitimate. Many factors have to be taken into consideration. First, which state do these "charges" occur--different states have different statutes for determing sentencing. Most importantly (from what I gather) is the doctor responsible for terminating life, unless given notification from family members to remove necessary medical components, would be charged with negligence. A malpractice lawsuit would likely ensue. The manner in which the question is worded is strange. Almost similar to riddle you'd find. What purpose does it serve to include the initial shooting without notice of an arrest? I believe the reference to the number of people saved gives me a good indication it's likely the doctor whose responsible. My feeling is most people would read the excerpt, notice two people were saved, and assume it was acceptable for the doctor to harvest the organs. This reminds me of one of the questions I'd come across during an exam where I couldn't be sure if I was overanalyzing, and when the answer was later given, it was something so simple I overlooked it.

Didn't it appear every other man featured within this last hour has had a lisp, or otherwise feminine voice? I wonder if this is a subtle dig at the activists claiming Powell (and thus, American Idol) discriminated against gays. The one person in particular--who sang Aladdin--was told he resembled Sylvester Stallone's sister. I also find it odd how the second contestant featured sang Kelly Clarkson, whom declined American Idol from airing her music. Coming up next is the crazed black woman they've been promoting all show. Should be great.
  11. You know in one of these three interviews, likely Maxim or Playboy, Guillen is going to say something which causes an absolute firestorm of controversy. I might as well create a preemptive whiners thread.
  12. = (Aaron Rogers)
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) I think we'd need to find a really good big men to go with Tyson and than we can have Sweets off the bench. Than hope we can sign someone like Peja or trade for someone like Pierce. Which is why I believe a lottery pick is beneficial to this team. Someone may criticize me for lack of fan devotion, but does entering the playoffs as a 7th/8th seed after previously being a 4 strike anyone as progress? Knicks will likely provide one good pick, and if we have another we'll have two routes: package the two picks, whichever other player besides Gordon and Deng for a legitimate big man. Or, depending on the strenght of the draft, find your big men from college. I can't even begin to debate which players are available, since I don't watch much college basketball. But if what I heard is correct, the new rule of enrolling in college for a year has dramatically altered this particular draft. That route may not be very appealing.
  14. QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Who has the much better future ahead of them? I rather be a bulls fan than a lakers fan at this point. All the bulls have to do is play their cards right and get a little lucky. Then i truly believe we will see a championship by the bulls within three full seasons from now. Three seasons? The way I figure, for such an event to occur we'd need two good draft picks this season--perhaps to trade for a superstar caliber player. Then next season, hope either the Knicks or us absolutely tank and miraculously draw the first lottery pick. We'd have an opportunity to draft the athletic, 7'1 center (forget his name) whose been drawing comparisons to Shaq. Eastern Conference is weak, but for us to suddenly pull together a championship team we'll need atleast ONE poor season.
  15. I don't believe the league will allow him to score this many points again. Literally not allow him. Perhaps the Raptors were more than willing to play dead-stiffs throughout most of the 4th quarter, but would any legitimate team allow such domination? I'd would have chopped him in the f***ing head. It's embarassing if you're a Toronto Raptor to allow yourselves to be subjected to such a feat . As I alluded earlier, I regarded Bryant as one of the most talented players well before this game. He would have scored 60+ regardless. But the Raptors--MY GOD. Do you have any pride?
  16. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 01:46 AM) the herald has a different take: http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sportsNe...&format=&page=1 Slightly different. They mention the Red Sox obtaining Coco Crisp (in addition to a prospect) for Marte an Mota. No exchange of Riske mentioned. Are you going to tell us your opinion now that's it's clear Mota/Marte for Crisp is the main component of the deal?

QUOTE(samclemens @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) hey if anyone likes good horror flicks, see a british movie called "Creep". its f***ing great, i just watched it. it also scared the s*** out of my girlfriend and probably played a large part in me getting served earlier tonight. I love this guy. I've heard Creep is a quality horror film from a few people. I'll have to check it out.
  18. I wonder how this effects the Lakers' future. How many quality players will sign with Los Angeles knowing Bryant's selfish antics are backed by the entire organization? Their final record--and perhaps more importantly-- record in the playoffs, will play a large role in their future. What exactly is appealing about a low seeded team in a tough conference with no immediate hopes of obtaining a title? Overpaying will be the only route. Or the allure of playing in Los Angeles with Phil Jackson. I'm positive few basketball players throughout the league aren't telling themselves, "wow, I'd love to be that guys teammate."
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) What a great basketball day. Kobe gets 81 will obviously highlight the 152-149 win for the Sonics over the Suns and the huge comeback the 76'ers had on the Timberwolves. An outstanding individual feat, huge comeback, and a high scoring game is practically the basketball trifecta. Only other event which could have made this day more interesting would be a brawl. Definitely overshadowed a bland NFL weekened.
  20. You're right, Chisoxn, I didn't watch the game. I assumed no basketball player, Bryant included, should have been able to do s*** under a triple team. NO ONE. I have to watch a replay of the fourth quarter, because if he is juking and jiving around three intent defenders (not just stiffs holding their arms up) it's a story worthy of a Hollywood epic. Honestly, I'm not Bryant hater. It's similar to my feeling of any baseball player hitting 4 HR's. It's not only a testament of a players abilities, but an indictment on the pitcher foolish enough to challenge the hitter. Bryant didn't prove himself as one of the top players in the league tonight. Anyone who has watched basketball has already known this far before.
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) It was a great performance overall. I just don't believe in distorting a game that's already over to pad your point total. I remember many times in where Jordan could've went out there in the 4th quarter in games that were already decided simply to pad his point total. I just don't get the Raptors mentality. I would've clobbered Kobe if he was out there trying to show me up like that. The game has really changed over the years. I agree, it was absolutely disgusting for Toronto to allow this. Once past 70 points, Kobe would have been double--if not triple teamed if I were opposing him on the court. Not to mention the rib shots and hard elbows he'd receive. Stormin' Normin' Van Leer would know what to do....
  22. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) actually i do, they want close games so more people watch later into the game, so they can make more money from advertising. The league is a business and they want to make as much as they can out of it So what do you suppose happen when the referee threw the flag for a possible blocking foul on the Smith punt return? Did one of the refs tell another, "Dammit Rick, did you forget NFL wants us to keep this game close?! Reverse your call!"
  23. GREAT time for a flag. I wouldn't mind a few more against Smith.
  24. QUOTE(Elcaballo45 @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) There was really only one downfield pass thrown to Smith and Trufant hit him early so it bounced off his shoulder pads. Delhomme is clearly rattled by Seattle's pressure defense, so it's not Smith's fault that the ball is not getting to him. Double coverage elimanates Steve Smith. Noble concept. It's amazing how Seattle's defensive line has applied such pressure on Delhomme, whereas ours could barely penetrate.
