Aw Snap...
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Politicians? Lowery is 85 or so. He's not running for office anytime soon, which means any time at all. Carter used to be a politician, but what the hell would he have to "posture" for now? She took a strong stand against the Iraq war. I don't think it should be ignored just because she wasn't concerned with that alone. Does it matter whether either are running for office or currently retired? Both embraced the opportunity to stick it to Bush. Don't ignore it entirely. Just not at her funeral service. Was there any other causes Loretta embraced--or actions partaken by the government which she denounced since the 1970's? I wonder how King felt about Vietnam. Similar circumstances, right? I haven't read anything about her opposition to that war, yet.

Aw Snap...
This is simply political posturing at the worst opportunity. These politicians figure everyone is watching, so why not take the opportunity to criticize Bush? Unless she dedicated her life to opposing Iraq--as she once did the Civil Rights movement--then it doesn't warrant mentioning. Not even one word. Wait until you're on a cable news channel to begin such debate.

Giant Rabbit
It's time to unleash German Rabbits upon the world. All you need is to find a female rabbit of relatively equal size, then throw them out in the wild. Imagine an order of enormous rabbits destroying crops and reproducing at an astounding rate. I wonder how long these rabbits could survive in the wild. Or how fast they can manuever. Would a fox even bother to hunt such an imposing animal?

Muslim thugs burn embassies in Syria
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) And in the "Everybody Knew This Was Coming" department of today's news: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/02/07/...n.ap/index.html TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- A prominent Iranian newspaper says it is going to hold a competition for cartoons on the Holocaust to test whether the West will apply the principle of freedom of expression to the Nazi genocide against Jews as it did to the caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed. There could have been more sufficient selections to truly test our principles relating to freedom of expression. Insulting the Jews, who've already been the blunt of every joke for the last 60 years, won't amount to much. If they created cartoons about Christianity or 9/11, then there might have been an interesting dilemma. But I'm sure the Iranians know inciting the American public and the government won't help their nuclear ambitions. BTW, thanks for the links yesterday.

Muslim thugs burn embassies in Syria
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 12:30 AM) The more I've heard about the rioting and protests, the more I'm convinced, its a means of distraction encouraged by arab governments looking to defer heat from their mismanagement. Saudi papers started covering the comics horror in January, four months after they had been published. The Arab League calls for the paper to be shut down. Reaction was immediately strongest in Egypt where extremist religious parties did well in recent elections, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan which is filled with Saudi funded religious schools. This is really very little to do with religion, and more to do with government. You mentioned this earlier as Saudi Arabia's way of averting attention from their inability to prevent stampeding deaths during the pilgrimage. Couldn't it have been possible it took several months for the particular issue to reach Saudi newspapers? It's a Danish newspaper--not exactly the European equivalent of the New York Times. Even if Saudi intentions were to deflect criticism of security measures in Mecha, the point remains people are still rioting. I'm not going to blame Saudi Arabia and ignore the hardline fundementalitsts on the streets. Sounds like you're attempting to create an excuse for their actions. And for your last comment--is there a difference between government and religion in the Middle East?

I love how Seattle is suffocating Bettis. Why don't they just let him enter the endzone?! He's home, and a great story. Did I mention he's home in Detroit? Such a classy guy deserves a big game.

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) LMAO its the guy singing the national anthem Where have I heard this guy before? Yes, I agree--it was absolutely terrible. And can anyone else predict the fury PETA will unleash upon Aretha Franklin for her fur outfit? Unless it's fake, you figure atleast 10 animals were killed to cover her rather large figture.

Kid shoots up gay bar
Myspace profile of Tony Dungee's son was taken down within hours of his suicide, so I wouldn't expect this to remain too much longer. Certaintly can't look at the profile and question why he did it.

Muslim thugs burn embassies in Syria
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) I'd agree that there are more active Muslim nutbag religious nuts out there but to discount the Christian extremists is myopic. After all, it is all these religions that seem to be causing all these problems in the f***ing first place. I don't discount Christian fundementalists. Infact, those professing themselves as regular Christians are likely causing far more damage--to our wallets. I believe if the proper figures were to be collected--which is impossible--you'd find out Christianity costs their followers billions upon billions of dollars. Aside from the noteable faith seminars which feature avengelists proforming "miracles," there's a hugely commercial side to Christianity which is growing more noticeable. Islam may feature the same problems, but I don't hear it--so I'll resist commenting on that.

The Boiling Point
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) LOL @ Juggs for the left-wing pussification comment...reminds me a lot of the objectivists proclaiming that it is immoral to not attack civilians in Iraq/Afghanistan. Haven't heard many support this position. Personally, I wouldn't intentionally target civilians if I were in either conflict; but I'd be extremely cautious. I don't care how this sounds, but I value my life--within a warzone--more than an innocent civilians. I'd rather assume everyone is a terrorist than everyone is friendly and welcoming.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) Even you have to admit that Christian extremists are far fewer and their acts of violence much farther between than the Islamo-fascists. When was the last act of violence against an abortion clinic? Been a while hasn't it? Every single day theres some manner of madness going on in the Middle East. Yeah, that's unlikely. Although not even LCR can cite random internet articles from a liberal publication reporting recent bombings of abortion clinics. We just need to come to a consensus here. No more bulls***. Muslims extremists outnumber, and produce vastly more destructive acts of violence than Christian extremists. I mean, can I state this without hearing accusations of hate mongering? If no one supports my position because I can't site a refutable source, than fine. Continue believing "EVERY religion has misguided fundementals" while avoiding the actions of those fundementals..

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Radiation fixes cancer, therefor Nuclear Radiation is the best way to cure terrorism. Drop THE bomb. Hell, lets drop a few of them. The further draw comparisons, there's always the possibility radiated Arab terrorists in the region will be normal afterwards. Although hairless. So, I say drop the f***ing bombs. GLASS PARKING LOT!! YEAH BABY!!!

Muslim thugs burn embassies in Syria
I'll say this: Islam undoubtedly has peaceful intentions, but by far, their fanatical followers are the MOST fanatical followers of any organized religion. And just to root out any expected replies which avoid the subject, I'm not counting any whacko cults or religious cults with 1,000 members. The problem is those who speak out and condemn the actions of misguided Muslims are overshadowed by radical clerics preaching annihlation of Western powers and Israel. I believe Islam has a HUGE image problem in the world, as does Christianity. It's just more difficult to compare the two when radical Muslims are piloting airplanes into skyscrapers, whereas radical Christians are bombing clinics. In law enforcement, it's a fact the most dangers person to reason is someone intent on killing themselves--with absolutely no hesitation to bring others with them. It's definitely a problem when people of a certain faith deem their passage into heaven as guaranteed with taking the lives of others, and themselves.

Brokeback Mountain parody
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) E! on their website for the show "The Soup" has a parody up called "Brokeback Kong" which is guys in monkey suits acting out scenes, it's pretty funny. "Lay your hands.........on me you damn, dirty ape." I also recall a funny parody of Brokeback Mountain on Mancow about a month ago. It was using Steve Miller Band's 'Space Cowboy' and replacing the hook with "I'm a gay.........cowboy. Bet you weren't ready for that." Don't recall much of the remaining lyrics because I was laughing so hard.

Films
Tomorrow, if anyone has three hours to waste--either from 7-10pm or 10-1am--watch "Grizzly Man" on Discovery Channel. I the topic detailed within the documentary was recently discussed on Soxtalk. It chronicles the life and death of grizzly bear enthusiast (Timony Treadwell) living amongst his cherished carnivores. Unfortunately, one day a bear decides he's either hungry or fed up with Tim's nonsense and chomps on his head, kills his girlfriend, then dismembers both their bodies. And no, we don't see or hear any of it. It goes without much debate this guy was absolutely insane. You figure that's obvious for anyone willing to spend several months every year, for thirteen years, alone with ferocious, 1,000 pound creatures. Two of my favorite parts of the movie were when an Ecologist reads an email which suggests "Bears feast on libs and dems.......More should be included around the Berkley campus," and Treadwell's enthusiasm for observing a bear's recently laid pile of crap. Honorable mention goes to the utter gayness he conveys throughout the film. "I LOVE YOU MR. BEAR!" "Look at that dying flower--IT'S...SO...SAD." "If there's a God, please rain. MOTHER BEARS ARE FORCED TO EAT THEIR CUBS!"

Dave Chapelle on Oprah
QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Here's what really happened: Chapelle Theory It was actually feasible for the first several months--If you ignore the absence of quotes (w/sources) and the remarkable ability of the author to have people available who overhear conversations between prominent black leaders. I haven't completed the entire timeline yet, but after the supposed voodoo doll was dropped off at Chapelle's house, I'm just interested to see where the story leads.

Chicago has 5 of 20 worst bottlenecks
Chicago area commuting is even worse when you factor in the absurd number of railroad crossings. Atleast on the Southside it is. Suppose it's the price you pay for being the central hub of all railway traffic. I recall an article where 3 or 4 of the top five delays due to freight line interference occured around Chicago. Blue Island's two tracks on 127th, near Eisenhower High School, were rated the worst in the nation.

Teenage Girls thumb their nose at the Law
The interpretation of the law, in this instance, is essential. You can suggest, "OH, he's just being a flippen hardass!!11;" and you'd be absolutely correct, but he has every right within the teenagers' sentencing to enforce harsh punishments. In case anyone isn't aware, two people can commit the same crimes and receive--get this--different punishments. Law Enforcement, and particularly the entire legal system, isn't precise. In Illinois, you could be issued a speeding ticket for exceeding the posted speed limit by 1 mph. Everyday of your life prior to such a scenario, you may have driven 5 above. Hell, the other motorists may have been traveling faster than you. But guess what? It doesn't matter. You were caught disobeying a law--one that's broken practically everyday by every commuter. Does this change anything? You were obviously the victim of a disgruntled police officer profiling you, your vehicle, or possibly fulfilling a quota. Tell that in court and you'll be in traffic school before you know it. These teenagers may not have deserved it, but OOPS--they received jail time anyway. Don't violate court ordered probation next time.
