  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 11:43 PM) The article forgot to mention that Bobby was driving drunk. The real question is how soon after the accident did Jenks report it to the Sox. THERE'S A LAPSE IN TIME THAT NEEDS EXPLANATION!
  2. QUOTE(AirScott @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) quite a feat to be remembered as worse than Koch here. I remember Eyre as worse than Koch, and I despised KW for some time after the Foulke-Koch trade. Hey, Capn12 may differ with you on that opinion! During 03/04, you couldn't have found a bigger, more apologetic Koch fan. Haven't seen him around lately, but if he were here, I'm sure he'd be defending him.
  3. The cartoonist should go in hiding with Salman Rushdie. He's evaded death for 10+ years.
  4. There's a problem when prominent black members of society say these comments. No, I'm not generalizing; merely suggesting there are concerns when people who are looked favorably upon, and should know better, say ridiculous statements concerning race. If not Barry Bonds or Kanye West, it's Bryant Gumbel or person every associated with NAACP. What we have to do is take people who utter these comments to task. Don't acknowledge any truths to any parts of his statements and deflect attention. Just concentrate on his observations of the absence of blacks--as well as the slight of Republicans--and absolutely hammer the issue. I'm against anyone, of any color, interjecting race into public discussions and getting away with it. What's most disgusting is when people within the media (esp. sports media) are terrified to respond.
  5. QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) Somebody call Cheney. Cheney couldn't finish the job. Where's Ted Kennedy?
  6. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) he was more than a benefit. Plus we will miss him trying to beat out the throw at 1B. Tell me how many stolen bases you can contribute ot him at first, and then, guess how many less Baines will provide. It's not a big issue. Why don't you think about the benefit of having Raines in the dugout, opposed to the walking corpse in Baines? Haven't talked about that angle yet.
  7. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) I really hope this article is a bunch of crap or a misunderstanding. This is not a good move. Don't overreact about it. It's not going to be the difference between losing and winning a championship. Raines may have been a benefit at first base, but then again, anyone whose a good basestealer knew the art well before talking with Raines.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) That is the only explanation that seems logical to me, unless there is some other x-factor at work here that none of us are aware of. Maybe Raines wants to manage a team sometime soon, and he thinks this will advance that career track? Who knows? This is what I assumed this morning after reading the article. I don't believe Ozzie, regardless of how ignorant he may be on various subjects, would just make the move without reason. Raines is probably intent on understanding the managing aspect of baseball. Having a feeling for the game. Guillen may not be the best mentor for this, but atleast strategizing moves will do him better than scratching his ass at first base.
  9. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Over/Under: This thread goes all the way til March. Over. Don't forget we'll still have the commentary after Whittington is released from the hospital, as well as the stories which include some variation of "his life will never be the same," or "activites such as hunting will no longer be possible with his heart condition."
  10. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) You're biased. Our world series championship certaintly helps ease critcism off Guillen, in my mind. I'm sure in a few years, if this team were posting records similar to 01'-04,' I would be far more critical of him. Until that moment arrives, I can't do anything besides laugh at his comments and say "Ozzie being Ozzie." Besides, who honestly is offended by Guillens comments besides Yankee and Dodger fans? Rest of the nation probably couldn't give a s***. If anything, they're thinking this Guillen character is entertaining--and crazy.
  11. Proof yet again Chicago Cub players and their fans don't care about the White Sox.
  12. I love it when controversy erupts with Guillen because I can legitimately picture people aggrivated with his comments. I agree it's unneccessary, but it certaintly doesn't upset me. I said it before, and I'll repeat it--Guillen can do no wrong with me. I don't give a s*** what he says, or how much his comments distracts attention from the team. These Guillen quotes always follow a similar path of ascending to a full-scale discussion, then dying down quickly after. Atleast the SI publication waited until our White House visit was over.
  13. 2000's fight definitely should have been on there. I recall ESPN had a list of 'Best Baseball Brawls' where it came in at 6 or 7. To this day, the fight holds the MLB record for most suspensions--that should amount to something.
  14. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) when jimmy carter getting attacked by an angry gopher is being reported in history classes, the vice president shooting a guy in the face is a bit more important and relevant. All depends on the teacher. I've never had a class where this incident was discusssed, and neither have I read a history textbook citing it.
  15. Prostitutes should concentrate their efforts towards reforming rape laws, which hold them at a huge disadvantage. You can blame our patriarchal society for fostering a legal system in which a hospital attendant or social worker are the only two professionals who can validate an alledged rape. --Listen to a feminist for 75 minutes you're bound to blame men for everything.
  16. Great, more Yankee love on ESPN. Suppose he'll be featured extensively during the BOS/NYY games to give expertise on the INTENSE RIVALRY.
  17. Yet another example of Democrats using this incident to their advantage. I thought only GOP members alledged such conspiracies, and that democrats were silent on the issue. Guess not.
  18. The article does oversensationalize the tape as a "smoking gun," so I'm a bit weary of it's contents. I'm a also a bit curious why this news hasn't been circulating around the media--ideally Fox News. I'll have to watch myself and judge.
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) Sources do matter. ABC is running this. Not Fox News. CNS news is merely excerpting what the material within the special will cover. I'm sure Nightline will discuss, and possibly air, the tapes and validate the sources.
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:07 AM) Notice that no Dem has even really talked about the accident, it seems like a non-issue to me. Accidents happen, it is a shame. The only ones talking about making it a political issue are Taa Daa, the GOPerheads around hear. Didn't think I'd forget this, did you Tex? Just from a link posted earlier by Balta-- http://www.rollcall.com/issues/51_83/hoh/12174-1.html I'm sure there will be more to follow.
  21. Exclusive Interview with Cheney coming up on Fox News. Yeah, don't expect any tough questions. Atleast we may get some reaction and insight from Cheney.
  22. Yes he should. Not many teams will be willing to take a risk on a past steroid user whose career has plummeted annually since 2002. If he were still producing, I believe a team would take a chance. But since he likely won't, it's more difficult to ignore the steroid cloud above his head.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) C'mon guys. Nobody wants to talk about this? We've got a national scandal going on with the attempted murderby Cheney. I'm sure the democratic portion of Soxtalk will be making their way in soon enough to defend Gore. Although Cheney's accident does deserve attention. Gore is rather fortunate he said those comments this week. It would have garnered far more than a small blurb on news websites otherwise.
  24. I can only imagine how Gore's speech is spun in Saudi Arabia. Likely title of local newspapers: "GORE: "U.S. HATES ARABS," "INFIDELS DISCRIMINATE AGAINST SAUDI ARABIA,"TRUTHFUL GORE EXPOSES RACIST BUSH" Seriously though, what purpose did his speech serve? What were his intentions to disclose such allegations in Saudi Arabia? Does anyone believe he attended the conference and thought, "to repair the relationship between Saudi Arabia and US, I'm going to bring up all the terrible things our nation has done since 9/11. Yeah, let's just forget where majority of these hijackers were from.."
  25. Henrich with the last shot? Even if he were open it would have airballed.
