  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) But I doubt that today's shellacking was his one and only chance to prove himself this ST. He'll have more opportunities, that's for sure. But from the small portion of the game I listened to when Baj was pitching, he was hit HARD. This seems to be a reoccuring theme. Add this to the other experiences he's had on the major league level and you can't help but wonder. You can show me his numbers and suggest they indicate talent, but it's much different competiting for a bullpen position on a major league ballclub than pitching for a minor league team.
  2. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) It's too early for that. I do think that Malone and Reynoso have no chance at the second lefty spot though. They don't seem to have any control at all. I heard those two were pitiful--aside from the boxscore which only reinforces the position Malone pitched terribly. I just assume the decision has been made on Almanza and Malone, as well as Bajenaru. For Jeff, he was absolutely torched; and has been every instance of facing major league talent. At which point do you wonder whether he's either a protypical AAAA player, or possibly weak mentally on the mound. And I didn't mean to indicate Tracey was included because of his performance this afternoon. Although it was fairly poor, he didn't have much of a chance to earn a roster position before today.
  3. Linkage? Not that I don't believe you, but I'm sure someone on this board will allege the quotes were taken out of context.
  4. What an absolutely pitiful performance from our bullpen hopefuls. I believed before ST began we were going to witness a battle of mediocrity for the last remaining bullpen spot, and judging from today, it looks to be true. And yes, I realize you can't draw conclusions off a small sample size, etc. etc. etc. But realize these pitchers weren't even facing major league talent. It was major league talent mixed among minor leaguers and ST invitees. Atleast we can scratch Almanza, Bajenaru, Tracy, Malone from the lone spot.
  5. Has anyone seen Running Scared? It's currently showing in limited locations, and hasn't really been promoted well. Until earlier this afternoon I was unaware of it. From a friend of mine who has seen it, the movie is terrific. Similar to 8MM in the brutal subject matter discussed.
  6. AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WIN......LOSER? I'm not used to this. Changes must be made. Corpseball motherf***ers.
  7. Perhaps Saddam is confessing now because he knows the prosecution has introduced their 'smoking gun--' a supposed signature of Saddam's on a paper ordering the execution of prisoners. Several were pre-teen in age. The LEAST he can do is appear sympathetic and willing to shoulder the bourden of mass atrocities. Who knows how these Iraqi jury members will react. If the case was in California, his sympathy would have been enough to cast reasonable doubt. He'd be a free man, golfing with O.J. Simpson, Robert Blake, and Michael Jackson.
  8. I can understand Americans not knowing all five. I couldn't recall 'petition for redress of grievances.' It's equally as understandable to recognize popular culture figures over constitutional rights. Most come across The Simposons more than the discussion of the 1st Amendment. But for 20% of Americans (surveyed) to believe the right to own a pet is a right established within our constitution is pathetic.
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) "That's just Ozzie being Ozzie." Is it common in Boston to spell 'new' as 'neu'?

  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) I agree. That's why I said "if true". Whether Kenny meant for it to be private or not isn't the point to me. You don't try and erase somebody from the franchise because you're upset with him. But I still can't believe Kenny would take it that far. Others should have been as cautious with their replies. I'll be dead before I accept something written within a small online newspaper, without direct or collaborated quotes, as truthful. And while you believe the issue isn't erasing someone from the history, I believe it's privacy. I'll agree Williams shouldn't instruct such orders, but goddamn, where's the man's privacy? I'm just assuming since every publication isn't jumping on these quotes (Tribune, among them), it wasn't exactly mentioned in a crowd full of reporters off the record. If you're going to pass off such allegations as truthful, atleast indicate a title.
  12. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:46 PM) If true, Kenny is a world class moron. REPORTEDLY. Nothings on the record. It's irresponsible for the Inside Bay Area (whoever the f*** they are) to put such remarks as direct quotes without a source. How the hell do they receive inside information that apparently all other media outlets have missed? Anyways, this may have happened behind close doors. I support Williams here because it's nothing directed in a public venue. Whomever leaked this information, if it's legitimate, overcrossed their boundaries. We critizie Williams for going public with his views, but if he can't even say what he wants beyond journalists and within his own space, where the hell can he be himself?
  13. QUOTE(juddling @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) i grew up on Aurielo's pizza and my kids are growing up on it as well. they are opening up one in Lockport about 1 mile from me this June. I've already put my credit card on file..LOL!!!!!!!! I second Aurelio's. And I know people probably won't select a well known pizzeria, but Sbarro is a close second.

  15. I've been surprised at the national reaction to Williams' comments this morning. Mike and Mike, whom I usually trust to give a fair assessment of sports, defended Williams. They didn't ignore Thomas' comments leading up to the outburst, as was the case with Ordonez last year. Sportscenter didn't cast their usual negative shadow upon our organization. Just reported the facts, without analysis. Perhaps more follow-ups will ensue, but I expected much worse. Honestly, I believe if you're not associated with the White Sox or Oakland, you probably don't have much of an opinion on the topic. Similar to Guillen's comments concerning Arod, Yankee and White Sox fans were debating the topic, whereas the rest of the nation was either entertained or indifferent. Quite frankly, they may have agreed with Guillen. I also belive this is a situation where publically, general managers and MLB associates may disagree with the comments, but privately, they commend Williams. Does anyone presume Boston wouldn't cherish the opportunity to insult Ramirez once he leaves? Or San Francisco with Bonds? I'm sure Hendry would LOVE to tell the nation what he thinks of Sosa. Baseball purists (a.k.a., ballplayers over 50) are likely applauding Williams. Listen to them reflect on the game, they'll note a primary difference between generations is the lack of respect and greed current ballplayers exhibit. You remove the fans of other teams across America, most general managers, and ex-baseball players--you realize not many will oppose Williams.
  16. Alright, this discussion is becoming too light hearted for my tastes.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Video was just on WGN, I missed it! I got to see this. Try the Final Word on Fox, in about ten minutes. Unless the video is exclusive to WGN, it should be broadcasted on the show.
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) Mariotti will be back in Chicago. He'll have fun with this. That's the one person I was thinking of. I know he'll probably flip flop and use the opportunity to insult Reinsdorf, but he was practically leading the pact of Thomas opponents. Or, "The Big Blurt" as he called him. From January 26th: "Big Blurt Showing His True Colors." http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay29.html
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) I think taking the high-road very well could happen. He'll say something like, "I just stated my opinions the White Sox. I have nothing to say to Kenny Williams nor do I owe him a comment. Thank you." Or he could go balls in and say, "Look at how they handled the Magglio situation last year. Ask Scott Eyre if he's happy with the White Sox as an organization." Even though Thomas would love to extend the war-of-words, and thus defend his pride, it would probably annoy Williams even more if he shrugged it off. Although I'll say one thing here--I don't want to read articles from anyone within the Chicago media entirely blaming Williams and Reinsdorf, whereas portraying Thomas as innocent. I"ll be upset for one reason: practically the entire media treated Thomas like s*** for years. Their attitudes should remain the same of him if there is any consistency--which is unlikely. Even during his departure, his accomplishments were practically ignored. We had to endure the articles criticizing him for 10+years of discontent.
  20. I wouldn't count on this particular controversy to fester throughout Spring Training. If Thomas is smart, he'll respond to these latest comments with a simple suggestion of "taking the high road;" among other variations which avoid the issue. If he quits right here, Williams looks foolish. He already does to many. No one should be surprised if people defend Williams. Fans often are void of objection when criticizing their own team.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Caballo took it pretty well too. But if you look like 5-10 years in the past, you see quite a few who have not left on good terms. Howry is still b****ing about the Sox to this day, Foulke was pissed at the Sox, as was Durham, and this is not mentioning Thomas or Maggs. Do other teams have this many players leave on bad terms as well? I believe there's some truth to their complaints. Whether it's the disrespect (in the players eyes) shown during contract negotiations, or just treating players poorly and deceiving them, there's a problem with our organization. It's not a big problem, but one nonetheless. I wouldn't expect these issues to rise for awhile. Thomas wouldn't have been happy for anything less than a parade honoring his time on the White Sox. In the future, when important members of our Championship roster leaves, I'm sure they'll avoid the resentment others have held.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) Sounds like KW is firing back at Frank... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/photo?...066706&team=cha Another comment to fuel the controversy. :headshake This is Williams fault for failing to keep his views quiet. Say whatever you want to Guillen behind close doors, but not within range of journalists and photographers in a public venue.

  24. Similar to WSI, I'd automatically direct traffic to the main page. If you do what southsiders.net does (with a page picking options) people probably won't be willing to browse the articles. Force them to atleast physically view what's provided on the newly designed website.
