  1. QUOTE(V for Venereal @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) What is it with Islam and violence? I don't get it. You've already made enemies. And surely a response which suggests "every religion has it's radical elements." Welcome aboard. Most new posters don't venture around these parts until they've been a member for awhile.
  2. QUOTE(samclemens @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) it makes me wonder what kind of message that walking labia jimmy carter sent to iran way back when. that most certainly has a direct correlation to whats happening in iran today. the frickin iranian prez is one of the bastards that stormed our embassy, and carter allowed him to walk because carter negotiated like a b****. now hes the god damn president of iran and hes also our number one problem. thanks, jimmy! It hasn't exactly been proven he aided the embassy seige. Although in 1979 the current Iranian President was associated with a student organization which participated in the event. I recall reading an article where it was looked into by our government, and proven false. Former hostages swear to this day he was involved. Personally, I believe it's only logical to assume if there existed proof of Ahmadinejad's involvement the US would jump all over it.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) Another decent option would be Juan Cruz. He's probably not going to make the A's bullpen and KW and Beane have dealt quite a bit with each other. I wouldn't mind Juan Cruz. He's a hardthrowing righthander who can't possibly post numbers worst than a Backless Hermanson. I still recall his first game in the major leagues--I believe it was Dave Otto whom used the term "Little Pedro" to describe his explosiveness. It all depends on what Beane is willing to accept for Cruz. Cruz has talent and has atleast proven in Atlanta the ability to be a reliable setup man. What would he want for someone like that?
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) I think we've all heard the song. I was just noting the misuse of the word irony. Someone has been browsing Fark recently.
  5. --White Sox finish with a record between 88-91 wins, yet still capture the divisional title. Our domination of ALC opponents won't continue. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if us, Cleveland, and Minnesota finish within 5 games of one another. --Across the American league, no team will win more than 95 games. Intially--and this can always change as the season progesses--there appears to be few teams I'd classify as pushovers. AL West will be the lone division with a team winning more than 95, with Oakland accomplishing this feat. --Brandon McCarthy struggles in the bullpen. Inconsistent workloads and unexcused long absences from pitching (due to Guillen) effect his confidence in throwing the changeup. --Boone Logan pitches surprisingly well early in the season. Guillen thus expands role from situational relief pitcher to setup role. Second half, once teams adjust and scouting reports surface, he's sent back to fulltime LOOGY after a rough several weeks. --Hermanson's stubborness to avoid disclosing back troubles costs us several games early in the year. --Frank Thomas: .290AVG, .390 OBP, 35 HR's, 95 RBI's. Sends backhanded insults towards our organization throughout the season, but doesn't address anyone specifically. --Bobby Jenks loses closing role to Neal Cotts, then earns it back after bouncing back from location issues. --Mackowiak/Borchard replace Anderson fulltime in June after an abysmal several months. Rowand rebounds offensively in Philiadelphia. --Podsednik requires surgery midseason; Owens called up, surprisingly out Podsednik's Podsednik. Offers more power, better SB%, equal patience. --I insult our minor league pitching once Minnesota promotes several more Juan Rincon clones. People tell me to simply look at Logan as proof we're producing. I concur. --Greasy uses the choking picture atleast 67 more times in posts dismissing pessimism.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) ah, so I wasnt wrong I guess.....
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) Its the kid from dumb and dumberer right? Yeah, lol. I deleted my post too late. While writing my reply I mixed up the two characters.
  8. Prior's going to have to learn to pitch through pain. Toughen up. It must be devastating for him to realize an unnatural motion such as pitching a baseball may impose stress upon his body.
  9. I'm sure the Sears Tower is a target, but nothing less than an airplane will substantially damage the building. Last I recall--and I'm sure nothing has changed much since I've last driven by--the concrete/marble barriers lining up from the street to the building's base would make access impossible for a car bomb. s***, just drive 10 minutes to either the Aon Center or the Hancock Building and you can park a car within 5 ft of the entrance.
  10. I hope the show bombs. For no other reason than one of the main character's interacts with the blonde haired kid from Eurotrip. I can't knowingly support a show where that moron is featured for even several seconds.
  11. Yeah, so when Boone earns a roster position and DOMINATES major league competition I'm creating a new fan group: The Boone-Dock Saints. Even though I'm the only person (it seems) whom dislikes the movie, the play on words works well. Anyone steals this from me, and the punishment will be EPIC.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) Does he often makes those jokes? How did Jermaine take them? Is he the type to, you know, take jokes about race friend-lily? I can't really answer those questions. I assume since AJ isn't recovering from injuries in a hospital Dye takes it lightly. Remember when Guillen, off the record--but with reporters around--called a friend a homosexual, among other insults. I remember reading an article the following day by Rick Morrisey where he insisted respect of certain issues in baseball, etc. etc. Basically acting like a whiney little b****. I'm thinking to myself after reading the article, "This is going to be discussed on ESPN. I just know it. We're doing so well as a team this will be only be appropriate" Sure enough, next day on PTI (missed ATH) the topic is discussed. All you need is for one person to be offended. White guy asking a black guy about Ebonics will probably fulfill that requirement.
  13. Good article. There's one sentence in the beginning which I can forsee trouble: If I watch PTI or ATH and see "EBONICS," "PIERZ," or "AJ" as an upcoming category, I'm going to vomit with rage. In our sensitive times, all it takes is one person to misinterpret what he said as blatant stereotyping.
  14. Logan worked quickly this afternoon against a predominantly minor league lineup. Either today was played by a contingent of fringe talent, or this year's Rockies club is experiencing an astounding turnover. Difficult to judge anything from his 1.2IP other than his arsenal (which Cheat accuraely assessed) and composure. Didn't appear wide eyed. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Logan pitch Friday against Texas. Guillen should place him in situations to fail. Test him against legitimate talent. Beyond that, there's one other date which is important--next Saturday, against San Francisco. I want Boone pitching to Bonds. It may not happen if our starter pitches deep, but I'd like to observe him against the most imposing LH in the game.
  15. Admist all this speculation concerning Pods' shoulder inflammation, I'd like to add this quote to the mix concerning our bullpen. --Guillen It's so true. Certaintly can lend someone to wonder whether Logan really does have an opportunity to make the roster. I still don't agree it's probable, but knowing him, nothing can be ruled out. This issue is obvious irritating Guillen enough to publically criticize those competing.
  16. I hope Zambrano found what he was looking for after sticking a finger deep in his nose. And you can't blame Tejada for that last error. Not like he's experienced a game within the last several years worth a damn.
  17. I regret watching American Idol in place of this game thus far. Venezuela just had their first hit of the game in the 6th. Tie game now. Liriano is so similar to Santana it's freightening. How it is possible for a ballclub to not only have a pitcher of Santana's caliber, but have perhaps the only pitcher in the majors who can match his potential? f***ing San Francisco.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) So...who wants to bet as to the first month Mark Prior will pitch this season? Put me down for July. For July, I'd imagine shoulder issues would have to extend beyond posterior shoulder irritation. I'm guessing May. They'll rest him for perhaps a week or two following a visit with Yocum if nothing is wrong. After the rest simulated games will resume. Perhaps he'll pitch in a minor league game or two. I wish that one poster, I don't recall his name--he's a personal trainer--were here for a possible prognosis.
  19. Good I'm a heartless individual who feels absolutely no sympathy for Prior or the Cubs organization. You won't hear me ever say, "Oh man, Prior has SO..MUCH..TALENT. Hate to see an arm like that go to waste." Who would have ever thought the player with the PERFECT throwing motion could develop any health concerns? Just compare Prior with Hermanson. Herm Schneider and Guillen were upfront and honest concerning his condition. No spinning. I haven't seen Williams give the media any of the usual soundbytes Hendry would. Atleast in KW's instance, he might downplay Hermanson's back to regain leverage for a trade. What is the Cubs' excuse? To sell tickets?
  20. It'll be thrown out. It's not necessary for witnesses to determine whether or not criminals are expressing pain during executions. Is this guaranteed under the first amendment? Maybe I've missed it.
  21. Reynoso's inning: -leadoff double to LH -flyout -groundout (runner advanced to third) -basehit (run scored) -walk -walk -strikeout 12-5 Arizona Similarities between Reynoso and Marte become more apparent every day.
  22. Widger takes Heredia deep with a 2-R HR. 11-5 Diamondbacks.
  23. These broadcasted games on CSN have been brutal. Seriously, it's almost as if everygame has been lopsidded and riddled with poor fundementals.
  24. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) But it seems to me Ozzie is seriously considering it if he dominates during the spring. And it's funny to see the reactions when Ozzie says stuff like that. Just an interesting topic. From this point forward, if I'm Ozzie, Logan relieves our starters. He should pitch atleast one inning every three days. If his performance is closely judged in spring training, I'd prefer it be against the best players. Put him in situations where bases are loaded. Or three proven major league hitters are due up. Have Guillen smuggle him onto the Venezuelan roster for today's game against DR. If we're basically ignoring all logic concerning his quick advancement from Great Falls to the major, might as well put him through baseball hell.
  25. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) he'll be gone in a week I'd keep him around specifically--if only for one batter--to challenge certain hitters. Or place him in pressure situations. More than 15 games remain in Spring Training. No need to send Logan down to the minors just yet.
