I'll say this: Islam undoubtedly has peaceful intentions, but by far, their fanatical followers are the MOST fanatical followers of any organized religion. And just to root out any expected replies which avoid the subject, I'm not counting any whacko cults or religious cults with 1,000 members. The problem is those who speak out and condemn the actions of misguided Muslims are overshadowed by radical clerics preaching annihlation of Western powers and Israel. I believe Islam has a HUGE image problem in the world, as does Christianity. It's just more difficult to compare the two when radical Muslims are piloting airplanes into skyscrapers, whereas radical Christians are bombing clinics. In law enforcement, it's a fact the most dangers person to reason is someone intent on killing themselves--with absolutely no hesitation to bring others with them. It's definitely a problem when people of a certain faith deem their passage into heaven as guaranteed with taking the lives of others, and themselves.

Tomorrow, if anyone has three hours to waste--either from 7-10pm or 10-1am--watch "Grizzly Man" on Discovery Channel. I the topic detailed within the documentary was recently discussed on Soxtalk. It chronicles the life and death of grizzly bear enthusiast (Timony Treadwell) living amongst his cherished carnivores. Unfortunately, one day a bear decides he's either hungry or fed up with Tim's nonsense and chomps on his head, kills his girlfriend, then dismembers both their bodies. And no, we don't see or hear any of it. It goes without much debate this guy was absolutely insane. You figure that's obvious for anyone willing to spend several months every year, for thirteen years, alone with ferocious, 1,000 pound creatures. Two of my favorite parts of the movie were when an Ecologist reads an email which suggests "Bears feast on libs and dems.......More should be included around the Berkley campus," and Treadwell's enthusiasm for observing a bear's recently laid pile of crap. Honorable mention goes to the utter gayness he conveys throughout the film. "I LOVE YOU MR. BEAR!" "Look at that dying flower--IT'S...SO...SAD." "If there's a God, please rain. MOTHER BEARS ARE FORCED TO EAT THEIR CUBS!"

The interpretation of the law, in this instance, is essential. You can suggest, "OH, he's just being a flippen hardass!!11;" and you'd be absolutely correct, but he has every right within the teenagers' sentencing to enforce harsh punishments. In case anyone isn't aware, two people can commit the same crimes and receive--get this--different punishments. Law Enforcement, and particularly the entire legal system, isn't precise. In Illinois, you could be issued a speeding ticket for exceeding the posted speed limit by 1 mph. Everyday of your life prior to such a scenario, you may have driven 5 above. Hell, the other motorists may have been traveling faster than you. But guess what? It doesn't matter. You were caught disobeying a law--one that's broken practically everyday by every commuter. Does this change anything? You were obviously the victim of a disgruntled police officer profiling you, your vehicle, or possibly fulfilling a quota. Tell that in court and you'll be in traffic school before you know it. These teenagers may not have deserved it, but OOPS--they received jail time anyway. Don't violate court ordered probation next time.

If he were to accept the 50 million dollar contract Comedy Central offered, I believe he would be obligated to create four or five more seasons. There must be an underlying reason why he wouldn't accept this. He can't possibly enjoy stand-up comedy enough to pass on 50 mil. Perhaps Chapelle stood back and realized there was no way he could top the first two seasons. All his 'A' material had already been used, and the thought of creating another several seasons was too much.
