  1. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) Umm...Clooney has four nominations. He is nominated for Directing "Good Night & Good Luck", writing "Good Night & Good Luck", producing "Good Night & Good Luck"(since it is a Best Picture candidate), and acting in "Syriana". I thought he directed Syriana.......
  2. George Clooney must be furious about now. No nomination for either best director or film. Don't know what the piece of s*** Capote is doing up there. I'm glad to see Munich mentioned for Best Picture. I read several predictions where it was left off.
  3. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) mistake. Of course. How can anyone forget THEE rhyme? Beer before Liquor, never been sicker. Liquor before Beer, you're in the clear. Personally, after my souring incident I usually stay away from hard liquor. No matter how much I dilute a particular drink with juice, or pop, or whatever else, I can't stomach the taste. This is due to an evening spent at Ripon, Wisconsin with friends. Apparently, up yonder in Cheese Country, they enjoy drinking hard liquor at casual events. They happened to have Captain Morgain available, which I found suitable when mixed with RC Cola. I remember taking it easy for a few hours because I wasn't willing to lit my inhibitions go at 10pm. Several hours later, I began taking it down--and damn, did I reget it. What started the vomit-a-thon for me was when I entered the bathroom to piss, noticed I stepped on something soft, and no longer could contain the Captain when I realized I stepped on someone elses pile of puke. I've never felt worse in my life. The next day, I didn't eat until 9pm--nearly 15 hours after I last ate. I know not eating makes it worse, but I couldn't even smell food without gagging. Captain Morgan made a powerful enemy that day.
  4. How certain people can envision Samuel Jackson's line's in 'Snakes on a Plane' I can picture Keenan's. I've seen my fair share of "Keenan and Kel" episodes on Nickelodeon in the day. In that scene featured within your signature, he'd probably be whining and complaining in his usual manner. Such as, "Ohhhhhh mannnn. These snakes are ALLLLLLLL OVVEERRRRR..." [trailing off into non-audible pouting and eye squinting]
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:28 AM) The more I think about it, the more I'm confused how ANYBODY could be dumb enough to fall into the Cub trap. I honestly can't see how you could fall for that joke of a product unless you were brainwashed. I believe it was the perfect set of circumstances which drew the current Cub-group in. Without something more than 100 years of futility to attach yourself to, Cubdom won't continue growing at the level it did in the early, mid 90's.
  6. Atleast he waited until Soxfest was over to post this article. It'll take atleast a generation for things to change. I'm biased; yes, but I consider the Cubs fanbase to be the essential "perfect storm." Everything from WGN, to Wrigley Field, to Sammy Sosa, to Harry Carey, to Lincoln Park gentrification have conjoined together to create Cubdom. Think of most teams and their fanbases. Those with consistently high attendances usually have storied history, winning ballclubs, or atleast one or two World Series championships littered throughout their history. Cubs have memories of curses and botched plays. I just can't believe a World Series didn't set the wheels in motion for the eventual shift in White Sox fan support. I almost get the impression some are unwilling to even acknowledge this as a possibility. "No, impossible! NEVER!!!" It may take 10 years, but if the Cubs remain their woeful selves and we're hoisting atleast one more trophy, no one can convince me this town sustains a 3:1 Cubs/Sox ratio. Give those who are fairly young an opportunity to cherish the memories of a World Series championship. Wait for those bangwangon jumping fans to turn their infant children towards a winning organization. It's bound to happen.
  7. I have the impression here that Philadelphia is intent on ridding themselves of Abreu's contract. More than receiving fair value. I suppose the validity of this deal depends on whether Philadelphia considers themselves a strong contender for next year. Or whether they're willing to pay Contreras an extended contract. I find it odd Philadelphia wouldn't try for our outfield prospects or McCarthy alone for Abreu. Maybe they did, and this is where negotiations have led. This move simply seems like Philadelphia is saying to themselves, "Dye is affordable and Contreras can walk next year if he's bad. If not, we can negotiate for an extension. Anyway we go Abreu's large contract is gone." SSH--did you notice anything indicating whether trading Abreu means the option in 2008 is automatically picked up?
  8. Dog Day Afternoon, of course. Pacino's "ATTICA!" chants detailing police brutality were fairly accurace, as Fredo would attest to during the films conclusion. Strange you brought up a movie--unintentional or not--about a lead character whose homosexual. It OBVIOUSLY makes Juggs point of Hollywood's gay agenda. I love it when threads are derailed.
  9. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) That's why suddenly the liberal bastion of science is facing it's most severe level of scrutiny in more than a decade. Conservatives essentially want science taught that leads to a more profitable world. Which makes for a more profitable world: man viewed as an animal or man viewed as a child of God? It's pretty easy to make an economic argument for the child of God side. I don't believe either contribute to a more profitable world. Compare the GDP of countries where a high proportion associate themselves as athiests to those with religious values. I guarantee there wouldn't be a large disparity. Couldn't a proponent of evolution suggest a world which views man 'as an animal' produces a society where people are more willing to "live for today?" Thus, making a more profitable world? I personally believe any agenda (real or not--I'm not debating) will eventually end because honestly, how much money is their in the homosexual division of Hollywood? How many summer blockbusters can you have where the main character is openly gay? Studio's may finance low budget films such as Brokeback Mountain, but eventually, the stigma of gay characters will end. Honestly, I'd like to know the highest grossing film which involved an openly gay character as the lead. It's probably Brokeback. However some may hate their influence on politics, it's obvious Christian America holds its weight in the box office. Narnia and Passion of Christ are excellent examples. It'd be suicide for major studios not to cater them, whereas high budget movies inspired because of Brokeback won't end nearly as well. It'd only be logicial to assume the population would rise proportionately with the total American population. If anything, they'd be less willing to open themselves; giving the appearance of a smaller population.
  10. Qwerty posted this video earlier in the month. It's alright. Not very funny, though.
  11. QUOTE(easyw @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) It was creepy. really creepy. These people carrying around stuffed Sox bears, seeking autographs, and coming up with their own long lists for stadium improvements aren't normal. What's odd about any of the above? If these are criteria of fanactics, I'd rather have them in my stadium than bangwagon jumping "fans" with no attachment to the club.
  12. I'm sure the account of the man's beating is over dramatized a bit. You don't withstand 10 punches to the face, an uppercut to the chest, and several soft blows from a professional boxer and only walk away with a concussion and chest bruises. Doesn't matter, anyways. Nothing will happen to him. Could have killed the man and Russia would have looked the other way.
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) I don't think either trade happens. I think KW was quoted as saying that he isn't looking to trade Count and that he wouldn't take a position player back for him. Neither Madson or Heilman are positional players. Both are bullpen arms whom, if needed, could replace an injured starter in the rotation. In 2006, the starting/relief combo of Contreras/McCarthy is better than both McCarthy/Heilman and McCarthy/Madson. I know Williams is intent on maintaing our current rotation, but you have to seriously consider either trade scenerio--if they were offered. You could potentially groom either for a future rotation spot, or simply maintain their presence in the bullpen for 4+ years.
  14. It's not exactly something you can type into google and expect an answer. I've tried that already. I was interested whether someone on this site could guess what something such as that would mean. I built up the courage to first talk with her, and after noticing an apparent fixation with writing her own name, I questioned her personality. Thought someone may surprise me on Soxtalk. But anyways, not that I've broken the ice--now begins the gradual Flash Tizzle influx in her life.
  15. Anyone who encountered McCarthy notice whether he gained any weight? I realize it may not be too noticeable, although I'm sure someone within the audience commented on the issue.
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) Usually lesbians write their names a lot in notebooks. Should have expected smart ass replies. Suppose I'll have to find out myself if she's an egotistical woman. Which I assume.
  17. People who decide the best location to hold a conversation is the space in front of the bathroom stall I'm occupying.
  18. Anyone with experience or education in psychology willing to guess what it could mean if a girl writes her own name consistently through a notebook? I'm just interested because I used an excuse of copying notes to intitate conversation with a girl I'm interested in. When I open up her notebook, literally every page held several elaborate signatures of her own name. Both large and small. IMO, It was strange someone would devote so much time to writing their own name with swirls and bows and shaded accents. I've seen doodles done in the name of boredom, but not 10+ signatures though several pages. I realize anything I could extract from this likely won't amount to much. I'm wondering whether anyone could read this post and say, "Oh--this girl probably has a heightened sense of self esteem." Or, "young kids often do this, and their reason is....."
  19. Israel4ever, atleast bother to forward the link to your brother instead of creating a name for the purpose of posting a Sun-Times article.
  20. If Halloween III were completely detached from the series it wouldn't be bashed nearly to level it currently is. From horror movie standards, the plot is rather innovative. I'm convinced bashing this sequel is an art casual horror fans have developed. Problem for Carpenter, and supporters of the film, is the hatred for Halloween III has transcended generations. Understand when this movie first came out in theaters there was no information available to explain how far the series would progress. Promotional spots featured on television didn't make it clear whether Michael Myers were included or not. Very deceptive marketing. Thus, when fans viewed the film and realized they've been subjected to a completely original storyline, they forever damned the movie. Similar to how Jake Gyllenhal fans have damned "Bubble Boy."
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) Don't let your daughter become a cheater. You can't control this. These values are taught early. Even then, it's difficult to overcome temptation if the right opportunity presents itself. Everyone cheats at numerous points in their life. I wouldn't condone it, of course. Personally, I don't recall studying for one quiz (administered every week) for Spanish II and III courses. This was due to our teacher allowing students the opportunity to grade their OWN papers at the front of his desk. His reasoning--to save time. My plan: apply a strip of lead to my finger using a bandaid and circle or write in the correct answer. Worked perfectly. Do I regret it? f*** NO. Class was dificult enough and I had the misfortune of juggling the workload of other courses and a job. Again, wouldn't recommend cheating.
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) You are a winner. Now make sure you only throw up the cheap food. Would it surprise you otherwise? If we assume it's true, and there's no alterior motives for Juggs, then it's simple to understand how this could trouble him. There's no other venue for him to vent his frustrations. What, you tell the wife to quit b****ing and the child to learn themselves?
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) AFter reading everyone's response, and asking myself if I would share my parenting techniques or mishaps on this board. I have come to the conclusion that Juggs is full of s*** and just trying to argue about something. I would never air this s*** on a public message board if this is what I was doing as a parent. You dont air your dirty laundry in public, and not on the internet. When I first read his original post, I thought his reference to Biology was a precursor to an extended discussion on the topic of evolution. Maybe this is his method of ensuring his comeback in the 'Most Likely To Get Flamed' category.
  24. Juggs, this is likely a problem which existed many years prior to high school. I'm not going to go far enough as to criticize your parenting, but obviously--unless your child has learning disabilities-- certain approaches may have contributed to her unwillingness to accept responsibility. Personally, I've always been an excellent student. Not because I'm the most intelligent or naturally gifted, but due to a persistent desire to succeed. The most difficult aspect of education isn't learning the intricacies of a topic, but opening up a book and pushing yourself to understand certain material. Schooling is not only to culture youth, but to prove to future colleges and employers this particular person CAN learn. He/She HAS proven they can be taught new techniques fand ideas. What you should do is send her to college away from home. Have her develop reponsibility. If she fails out of college, and Mrs. Juggernaut cries, then it's time to reassess several things. But you have to take a risk.
  25. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) I think Hamas in a Palestinian government will be good for the region. I'll explain when I get free time at work. If you reasoning for this belief lies on Hamas' desire to be considered legitimate by Western governments, any public reforms within their group won't alter their stance on Israel. Sure, their financing of armed militants and recruitment of suicide bombers may desist, but this won't go nearly far enough. I honestly don't know why people continue to believe peace is possible. The entire Middle Eastern region--Palestine included--won't be completely satisfied with any peace plan unless Israel is removed. EDIT: Paragraph above wasn't addressed to you, Kickass. Just an overall assessment of the peace process.
