I blinked, did I miss something? I could swear the top of our order was due up against Wakefield.

Ramirez out thinked himself there because that pitch was right down the middle.

White Sox vs Red Sox - 8/13/05
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:19 PM) Okay now I'm really scared for our World Series lives. Two best guys going to the bump and they both lose. Our offense isn't giving us anything tonight. Just horrible. Haven't you heard? Good pitching will always defeat good hitting--except when it applies to games such as tonight. Then the excuses turn to how great of a hitting lineup Boston has. No one can admit they're not concerned how Garland and Buehlre have pitched these last two games.

Well, that was CRUSHED. Not looking good from here.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Funny, I've yet to see anyone bit their tongue when it comes to critcising any of our players on here. Refer to the thousands upon thousands of posts that criticize and bash the team after a loss...or close win...or bad play...or bad quote...or new hairstyle...etc... It's entirely different when you generalize and say "CREDE f***ING SUCKS" following a defense play, compared to me stating my reasons for being disappointed in Buehlre. Which, as I've stated several times, doesn't shed doubt on his season or his talent.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Oye ve, this is bull. After any loss everyone just freaks out not the other way around. Really? So I've never seen anyone claim "JENKS IS A STUD" following a good inning, or "THIS CLUB IS DESTINED FOR GREATNESS" following a victory. How is this any different, or worse, than being critical of Buehlre in one game. Or someone questioning our offense after a poor effort? I'm not putting his entire year under the microscope now. You just have to admit Buehlre's performance was poor and there's reason to be critical of him tonight. Nothing more than this.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) WOW he had a bad game, holy f*** were 34 games over .500 at worst after this game. we lost tonight, we didnt play well. the way i look at it, is when we clinch the division it doesnt matter how many games we win in the regular or post season as long as we win r last game! lets just go and get them tomorrow! I don't know what's hard to understand here. Because he's our ace DOES NOT mean he's immune from criticism because he pitches a poor game. Just as I'm not implying this one game erases his already stellar season. I've said this start he pitched poorly behind a nice offensive effort. Did he not? And I'm worried about any potential matchups against Oakland or Boston with Buehlre on the mound. Do you believe this isn't justified? Why is it following every win someone can point out how our team is destined for greatness, but following a defeat, no one can criticize any facet of our ballclub without hearing someone use the same rhetoric (best record in baseball, etc).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) Ahh yes, time to bash our ace cause he had a bad game. Sure is. Is he untouchable from criticism because he's our ace? It was pathetic watching Buehlre lose command of his changeup and tailing his fastball right across the plate for 6 innings.
-
White Sox vs Red Sox - 8/12/05
5 outs left. Offense should do its best from this point on to assure Buehrle of defeat. It's not their fault Buehlre did his Felix Diaz impression, but does anyone expect them to score off Timlin/Schilling?

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) So good pitching is better than good hitting? Not today. I love that old addage. How odd it escapes whenever a teams ace comes in and basically wets the bed against another playoff caliber club. I'm worried about the prospects of Buehrle pitching against Boston and Oakland in the future. They've hit him around like he's a pitching prospect from our minor leagues.

Any Sci-Fi Channel fans and Comcast slaves?
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) I only watch Sci-fi when they have marathons of cheesy, made-for-TV movies that attempt to be scary, but just make you laugh at how cheap it is and the occassional actor that you can recognize shows up. Bruce Cambell seemingly lives on these Sci-Fi produced TV movies not fit for direct to video release. Thank god 'Bubba Ho Tep' revived his career. Can't expect a man to live of Evil Dead his entire life. Sci-Fi channel itself lost it's appeal several years ago. I document the collapse as occuring sometime around 1999. In junior high, every Friday night I would set my VCR to record a horror movie broadcasted around 7:00 pm. You could almost guarantee a solid movie, and if you hadn't heard of it before (Suspiria/Don't Look Now/Black Cat (Lucio Fulci version)) you trusted their judgement. Then, one Friday Sci-Fi channel decides to air 'The Guardian.' It was, quite possibly, the worst movie I've ever seen-- and I've watched countless European horror movies. It all went downhill from there. Beyond the movies, there were several television shows picked up from obscurity and given new life. Friday the 13th: The Series, She-Wolf of London, Monsters, Sliders were entertaining to watch late on a Saturday night. Today, all four series are practically collectors items. We're lucky if anything but Stargate SG1 and Battlestar Galactica are showing on continuous loops during the daytime. The problem is the Sci-Fi channel has reverted back to it's early days in which it attracts, and specifically markets, true science fiction fans. Maybe it's ratings are solid, and this is exactly what the network intended, but for a person like myself--who enjoyed Sci-Fi's old programming selections, it's difficult to support the station. When Comcast alleniates its true fan base I can only imagine it's even tougher.

Any Sci-Fi Channel fans and Comcast slaves?
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) This thread is just to thank Comcrap for discontinuing the best channel on their basic cable package and making my f***ing week. At least I'm done working for the summer. Perhaps the free package shown on SHOWTIME/FLIX can lighten up your mood. Great lineup of late night (key phrase) movies they've been showing the last week. If nothing is on maybe I'll tune into the Sci-Fi channel and catch "Children of the Night" on my premium package.

Ozzie's "homosexual" remark
QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) If I am reading some of the pro Ozzie comments correctly, you would speak to your best friend and the rest of the world the same way, and everyone should just know how the remark was intended I wouldn't label myself in favor of Ozzie comments, however, I would (and have) greeted my friends similarly. Ozzie never intended for this comment to reach outside of his friend's ears. The Media should have known, as they were sitting there observing this, the comment was directed towards his friend and no one else. Again, he said those comments to his friend. No need to whine about this. It's his fault for trusting the media to completey ignore his candid remarks. Now he knows. It's not going to change my perception of Ozzie Guillen or this organization. I believe, as I've discussed earlier, this wasn't a case of a journalist being shocked with an Ozzie Guillen comment. It was two Tribune employees printing garbage in hopes of shifting positive attention from our team. Too much of a coincident to ignore.

Ozzie's "homosexual" remark
QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) i would love to expose the tribune somehow someway on this and ruin all there credebility they have in every market in any type of news they cover The situation itself should ruin their credibility. 30 media persons in the dugout with Guilllen, yet only two--both, oddly enough, owned by the Chicago Tribune, decide to print his quotes. No one else finds this odd? Oh yeah, some will argue "his comments were insentive regardless of being printed or not!" Unfortunately, I don't believe Ozzie will shut his mouth or become polictically correct to appease a few whiners. Around the media, however, he'll just have to.

Ozzie's "homosexual" remark
QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) totally agree. its coming up on pti btw. also what do u think we can do, if anything Nothing. I'd rather we let this thread die and ignore this topic, but since people are apparently missing the suspicious motives and timing behind these quotes it will continue. If this episode teaches him anything it's to remain reserved around the media. No more fun loving, joking Ozzie around Tribune media hounds. He may offend someone!

Ozzie's "homosexual" remark
QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) newsday is owned by the tribune. i wish there is something that we could do to get even with the tribsters. this is sick and ridulous. i had the last email and silvy and carmen today and they couldnt agree more that the cubune's agenda against the sox is old and week. This story reaches beyond Ozzie blabbering on sensitive subjects. If it weren't the Tribune reporting Guillen's quotes FOLLOWING a series victory of the White Sox and FOLLOWING the story of San Francisco's radio personality I'd be more willing to criticize Guillen. Just ask yourselves why were those two publications the only two to print his comments. I just question the timing and motivation behind publishing this article. IMO, it's made exclusively to bash our organization-- and, as expected, has already garnered attention.

Ozzie's "homosexual" remark
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) When people in Ozzie's position say stupid s*** like that, it's going to get printed no matter what. Thank Ozzie for making the comments and subsequently taking the attention off his team. And you believe this is the first occasion he's spoken on these terms? Don't be naive, Fickel. I doubt this is the FIRST time he's uttered offensive material infront of a large media crowd. Someone, with a possible agenda, decided to print this information in the midst of Kreuger's firing knowing it'd receive immediate attention. MOVE ON EVERYONE.

Ozzie's "homosexual" remark
Great. Watching Around The Horn I notice a topic entitled "OZZIE." HERE COMES THE WHINING!!! Morrissey can be thanked for printing this topic, which only serves to distract the public from our series victory against the Yankees.

Ozzie's "homosexual" remark
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) Why does everyone say that he's equating the two? He threw two different insults at the guy. The way I read it he called him one name and then the other...not "homosexual and a child molester" or "homosexual child molester" but "he's a homosexual! he's a child molester!" This is exactly how I interpreted his comments. I wish I could say "who f***ing cares," but I knew some people were bound to be offended. As this thread has illustrated. Realize who uttered the comments and move on. No need to let this non-story interfer with our successful season.

QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) Don't worry guys...its in the bag...Bernie is coming up! Williams is a Sox killer if I've ever seen one. In his career, he always seems to deliver a huge knock against us club in pivotal moments.
