  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) Impressive bat speed by the Sox hitters. Does anyone notice the intensity the Twins players seem to have tonight? Ozzie has got to get the Sox back to playing with some balls and intensity. Acted as if they've never seen a straight, 94 mph fastball. This team is going to have problems against Santana on Wednesday.
  2. Everett is killing us with these uppercut swings. He missed three staight 94 mph fastballs with his terrible approach. I just can't believe Rincon simply blew him away.
  3. Haven't had one of our patented 8th, 9th inning comebacks in awhile. Now would be an ideal spot with several tough relievers due up these next two innigns.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Oh boy, you had to remind us of that? The ONLY chance the Twins have of even being a threat to the Sox the rest of this year is if they sweep us this series. Which is entirely possible. Oh, and there's a vintage just-out-of-the-reach-of-defender Minnesota hit for Punto. --And a terrible scoop by Konerko on Mauer's bunt.
  5. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Jesse Crain in = Rally Over. Crain hangs curveballs with the best of them. Not frequently-- obviously, with a sub 3 ERA; but when it happens it practically floats to homeplate. And before I can complete this post the inning is over.
  6. Konerko with two HUGE baserunning gaffes on that play. Pulling his best Carlos Lee impression and stalling on the basepaths cost us an out and a valuable baserunner. Good job, you f***er.
  7. Crede didnt' exactly put himself in a great position to slide into homeplate. Because he attempted to avoid the plate and swipe it instead of sliding straight in with his legs he practically stumbled to the ground. Should have been held up by Cora, but he didn't help himself there.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) His slider is spinning and is not moving. The only one that is moving is the one in the dirt. He is spotting his fastball on the outside half. And our meathead hitters are pull crazy. Thanks Ozzie for the crappy 1-2 punch tonight. Expect the same 1-2 punch tomorrow against Radke. Timo hit's a HR off Radke once and he basically seals his placement in the lineup. Hopefully his career numbers actually warrant his addition. If they're anywhere like they are against Silva it's justified--i suppose. Against Santana, which I'm afraid to admit will likely be a loss with this offense, we'll probably see Ozuna in the leadoff position and (hopefully--if he's feeling better) Iguchi. May not see Anderson in this entire series unless there's a blowout or need for a RH pinch hitter.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Joe Crede.... .285 with 12 HRs in 2002 after being called up. This is the sole player which stuck out as producing immediately out of his callup. Singleton slipped my mind, however Lee/Ordonez (as I recall) took a few months to begin heating up. If Anderson could hit above .300 his limited AB's for this this club over final two months it'd be a welcomed addition. Too many slump prone players. I'll admit ownage, however. My dislike for the development of our minor league pitching has seeped into the hitting sector.
  10. If some goof named Matt Murton stolen from the Red Sox can contribute immediately for the Cubs, shouldn't be too much to expect for Anderson. I expect quality results from the best hitting prospect in our organization. Now, I already know how everyone will act if Anderson struggles for an extended period--some will call him a bust, others will regurgitate a slogan developed just for White Sox pitching prospects: "Need more time to develop." But for once every 10 years, it'd be great for a callup to absolutely tear up pitching. Our team needs a spark in the lineup. Hopefully he'll provide it.
  11. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay15.html I think more than a reprimand JR should talk to Ozzie directly & ask him to spend some time with the team psychiatrist so that he may help convince Ozzie not to call his MVP "queer". Asian people in general are very reserved people. That doesn't make them queer. Mariotti may be correct in assuming Guillen deserves a punishment, but once again he does so by means of complete ignorance and disrespect of our organization. Yes, Reinsdorf and Mariotti have had several fueds which extend back more than 8 years. Yes, he basically led to Mariotti's termination from ESPN 1000. But I'm tired of every downfall of this team being tied directly to Reinsdorf. It makes all his points, even those which are valid, appear less credible. s***, even last week when he wrote a rare complimentary piece on the ballclub the traditional Reinsdorf bashing was included. Mariotti jumped upon this latest Guillen quote to further antagonize The Chairman. It was worthy of press before, no doubt, but his sentiments throughout the article illustrate a deep dislike for Reinsdorf which fails to subside. No else one besides myself thought it was ridiculous of Mariotti to suggest Reinsdorf resign if he doesn't inact punishment upon Guillen? As if this such an incident worthy of that. Now I've said before the conditions of releasing these quotes were suspicious, and still believe so, but I'll admit it may be necessary from a public relations standpoint to suspend him for several games. Event though we're all bound to hear Mariotti clamor on how he "made the powerful Reinsdorf bow to his demands!" It must burn him up inside to know this story failed to live beyond three days. As I expected, everyone assumed it's "ozzie being ozzie," said their grumblings, and moved on. Back to worrying about winning baseball on the South Side.
  12. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) Santa must've f'd me over here because I don't recall the trap or the backpack deal. Here's a complete picture of the backpack/trap assembly. And seperate weapon, which I still happen to have.
  13. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Oh, that takes me back. Going back further if I may, did anyone have the Ghostbusters stuff? I had the car, the station, and the people, it was cool. Assisting the sidetracking of this thread, I have to include the ghost trap. Remember how it had an extension where you could press a button and it's plastic flaps would open? I found it a few years ago in my attic and foolishly threw it away. That s*** probably has value.
  14. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 07:21 PM) I would do a jig, eat my hat, and go streaking if we got Junior. Well, if we're getting Griffey you should say your farwells to Chris Young. I still don't understand where he'll play. Will Griffey be fine with a DH roll his extended stay in Chicago?
  15. QUOTE('94WorldChamps @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Clemens should be bottled. That is all. I had my suspicions about him. I thought people were willing to give Brando another chance?
  16. The last update was definitely not a recording. And there was not one visible raindrop falling on Fenway Pawk. Red Sox officials are dragging their feet. It's obvious they don't want to make this game official before any more heavy rainfall occurs.
  17. Another update, and Hawk remains clueless. Didn't appear to be any significant rainfall at Fenway.....
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) We don't play Boston the rest of the year. It would take pretty much a fluke in the standings in order for these teams to have to make up the game. You're right. In my world I completely ignored Buehlre's first start. If this game were postponed it would have to be replayed on an offday coinciding with a White Sox roadtrip and a Boston homestand. With few offdays remaining, and this game not (likey) meaning too much in the standings for our club, it should be played if possible. Even if it means fitting one inning in a 15 minute window.
  19. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Translation: This game has been called (unofficially) As if Boston crewmembers care about postponing this game with a Yankee victory posted across the Green Monster. Even if Sox happen to lose if this game resumes, I'd rather they finish it now than play a double header in the future. I've seen two games this year where the Cubs withstood ridiculously long (3+ hour) rain delays, yet still played.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) But he has posted on this board, so he should be on the team. LOL, you stole my punchline. Bajenaru deserves a shot, his numbers certaintly indicate so, but I'm not going to expect much from another soft tossing pitching prospect. Recalling his low ERA and strikeout totals he's posted these last two years, Baj must either have superb location, sneaky delivery, or several plus pitches. GAME NOTE: MEANINGLESS HOME RUN FROM KONERKO. Now we're only losing by 4 runs.
  21. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) there minors are better than ours because they know how to draft and coach. We don't. that simple. Do you think the braves would draft Wes Whisler? I think not. Braves continually have draft picks worse than ours, as would be logical with their 13 straight divisional championships, and have no problem replacing talented players which leave via trades or free agency. When have we had a contributing pitcher since Mark Buehlre's promotion to this club in 2000? Thank God Anaheim let go Bobby Jenks or else we'd be stuck with Chop Suey surrendering gopher balls every other outting. You know our team would never draft anyone who threw over 92 mph anyways. When Brandon McCarthy did his best Felix Diaz impression (90 mph fastball with no movement, giving up a staggering amount of HR's) I finally accepted the fact I'd never believe the hype of any pitcher until they're in uniform. How many times have we heard, "HE NEEDS MORE TIME," "NO EVERYONE IS A SUCCESS IMMEDIATELY!" McCarthy may be a decent major league starter on par with Kip Wells some day, but unless he develops a good changeup or added velocity he's yet another pitcher in our minors. What I can compliment our organization for doing is developing outfielders. Too bad we're filled to the brim with outfielders on this team. Rowand and Podsednik, I would imagine, will be with this club for a long time. That leaves one outfield position to be determined by either Anderson, Sweeney, Young. Due to the weak free agent market next year and Dye signed through 06', none of those players will find themselves on the club. Anderson is the closest and yet he'll be lucky to find himself on the bench. Aside from OF's, you have to ask yourself where the hell are the infield prospects? Is Josh Fields supposed to be our successor to Crede? Producing only outfielders won't help us too much in the future.
  22. Ozzie fails to remove Garland prior to this inning, so as if one cue, he surrenders another run. I suppose now we'll score 4 runs and fall short the one given up this inning.
  23. I blinked, did I miss something? I could swear the top of our order was due up against Wakefield.
  24. Ramirez out thinked himself there because that pitch was right down the middle.
  25. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:19 PM) Okay now I'm really scared for our World Series lives. Two best guys going to the bump and they both lose. Our offense isn't giving us anything tonight. Just horrible. Haven't you heard? Good pitching will always defeat good hitting--except when it applies to games such as tonight. Then the excuses turn to how great of a hitting lineup Boston has. No one can admit they're not concerned how Garland and Buehlre have pitched these last two games.
